Davina McCall's tweet

Davina McCall tweeted that female abduction / murder is extremely rare and that this level of fearmongering isn't good for men's mental health.

I don't understand why she is attempting to shift the narrative back to how men are feeling after yet another woman's life has been brutally ended BY A MAN.

For fuck's sake, Davina, we have a prominent voice this week, a huge platform to raise awareness about how most of us have to make so many micro- and macro-adjustments to allow for men's violence and here you are, putting men's health in the centre of all this.

Am I being unreasonable in thinking she should apologise and remove her tweet?

@SirVixof SOME men assault SOME women ffs!

Bythemillpond · 13/03/2021 14:43

I think there are 2 issues being amalgamated into one.

There is a number of women killed each year by men they know, partners, husbands, fathers, friends, boyfriends and then there is this. Those killed by strangers.

The latter is incredibly rare.
We need to separate the two.

I think MANY men assault MOST women would be more accurate. Ffs

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 14:48

It's not just this. It's the sexual assaults and harassment that women have to endure, from men. Its all part of the same thing.

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 14:48

Yes this.

Bythemillpond · 13/03/2021 14:51

I thought we were talking about murder.

Are we now diluting what has happened.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/03/2021 14:53

One in four women experience domestic abuse over their lifetime. I don’t think they are all living with the same man...
And that is before you get to catcalling, groping, grabbing in public, harassment in other forms such as constant hassling for a date, or coercion.

FixItUpChappie · 13/03/2021 14:54

I do agree with freedom of speech and being entitled to an opinion, but.....

Well clearly not really OP.

Current cultures obsession with forcing people into self abasing disingenuous apologies is not only vomit worthy but dangerous. Your free to not agree with her.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/03/2021 14:55

The man charged is nearly fifty. The charges are indecent exposure , kidnap and murder. It would be beyond astonishing if this person has not been committing crimes against women that have gone unrecorded for decades.

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 15:00

Are we now diluting what has happened

No we're not. Because these things escalate. From voyeuristic behaviour, to flashing, to rape and assault, and sometimes, to murder. The chances of a woman who has been killed having also been sexually assaulted is high. This is the bigger picture. It's diluting it by focusing only on the final outcome. Which makes it easier to dismiss by brushing it away, saying it's rare. This is about male violence towards women.

OhWhyNot · 13/03/2021 15:01

Of course he has committed violence against women before

Maybe some shall come forward but who can blame the if they choose not to because there is no doubt they shall somehow be blamed for the his actions this we have seen before

Crystalclair · 13/03/2021 15:24

This isn't about caring more about mens feelings, it's about caring about innocent mens feelings

Crystalclair · 13/03/2021 15:33

Yes @SirVixof... but not ALL

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 15:33

This isn't about caring more about mens feelings, it's about caring about innocent mens feelings

If innocent men are offended by this then they need to examine their feelings as to why that is. It's not a woman's problem to manage their feelings for them. Some difficult conversations need to be had and they need to happen now.

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 15:35

One in four women experience domestic abuse over their lifetime. I don’t think they are all living with the same man...

And these are the ones that are actually recorded. Many incidents are not.

Genderwitched · 13/03/2021 15:39

Yes @SirVixof... but not ALL

Yes but the good ones that haven't and would never, will UNDERSTAND why this outrage is happening, will UNDERSTAND why it is necessary for there to be overkill. Because they love and respect women. And because something has to change!!

FaceyRomford · 13/03/2021 16:00

So a TV presenter tweets something you disagree with. Why should she do anything about it? It's her opinion and she's entitled to express it.

Crystalclair · 13/03/2021 16:00

Ok @Erkrie so again, as a comparison should all muslim men understand others feelings of fear regarding potential terrorism? Should they just accept that people may feel wary 'incase'?

TomatoCultivator · 13/03/2021 16:03

Redtoothbrush thank you for answering my comment.

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 16:11

Ok @Erkrie so again, as a comparison should all muslim men understand others feelings of fear regarding potential terrorism? Should they just accept that people may feel wary 'incase

Well if people do feel wary then that is something that they would have to accept obviously. If it concerns them. What else can they do about it? Shut down conversation? Because that wouldn't be helpful would it.

Crystalclair · 13/03/2021 16:12

Really @Erkrie ? Because I had my arse handed to me on a plate when I shared this with MN back them. I was called racist and sexist

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 16:14

Although in fairness, in Scotland, they pretty much have. Maybe the men should have been included in the hate crime bill for hurty feelings when women talk about male violence.

FactsAndFigs · 13/03/2021 16:20

I hope she has read some of replies and gives more thought to what she was saying, who knows if it possible to step out privileged bubble. Never has to travel home from work in dark using public transport for one.

What I don’t agree with is the abuse in some of replies one said she needs to be kicked in the c... whilst in same tweet calling her out.

Be interesting to see what tweets next although matters not to me in that hoping for her or any celebrity approval

Erkrie · 13/03/2021 16:21

Really @Erkrie ? Because I had my arse handed to me on a plate when I shared this with MN back them. I was called racist and sexist

MN is not a hive mind. I also don't think that this thread should be derailed with issues around terrorism. (Imo) you could always start a brand new thread if you wanted to talk about a different topic...

Crystalclair · 13/03/2021 16:28

Oh give over @Ekrie, this is exactly the sort of thing people say on here when they dont have an answer. Because I am right, it's no different! And my point is fair. Nice try with the deflecting tactic!
