DP went and got all the ingredients for tonight's dinner which he is going to cook. We don't live together but are in a bubble so eat together a lot.

We are on a strict cut cycle before the gyms reopen so counting calories and macros. I obviously get a lot less calories than he does though. He tries to eat 2500 and I get 1400.

He is making chilli and he has bought pork and beef mince rather than lean mince beef. I wasn't going to say anything but when logging the calories this morning (I plan my day out in advance) I figured out that it is significantly more calorific. I mean if we had lean mince I could have chilli rice and a mini naan for less calories than just the chilli made with the other mince.

I couldn't help myself but mention it and BF has agreed to go any get more mince but I feel like an absolute brat! Usually I would just be great full that someone has bought and cooked a meal for me and eat what I am given but I am really trying to focus right now.

So YABU - it's only one meal you should have kept quiet.

YANBU - he knows you are on a strict calorie allowance and should get the lean mince.

Yabu-it’s one meal.

FortunesFave · 03/03/2021 10:39

Oh my God.

lazylinguist · 03/03/2021 10:41

YABU. This sounds borderline obsessive tbh!

minipie · 03/03/2021 10:42

Jesus. YABU

PetalPath · 03/03/2021 10:42

Nice problem to have. Your boyfriend sounds lovely.

YANBU.

Zarinea · 03/03/2021 10:43

YABU, and a brat. Sorry.

JeffTheOracle · 03/03/2021 10:44

Nobody likes a diet bore. YABU

countbackfromten · 03/03/2021 10:44

Seriously? This is sounding quite disordered for one meal!!

Sgjudxbyef · 03/03/2021 10:44
  1. That sounds extreme, obsessive and unhealthy.
  1. You could have eaten it, you just wanted your obsession to accommodate naan too?
  1. What happens to the mince he already bought?
ohwaitthatwasme · 03/03/2021 10:46

I feel like an absolute brat!

This really isn't the concern I took from your post. You calorie counting is quite intense that you can't let one meal slide because of the wrong mince. I would be looking at that, your reaction is much more unhealthy than your mince

EatTheMince · 03/03/2021 10:46

The mince he already bought is going into the freezer and I will make a bolognese with it after our cut cycle.

We go to bulk in April (hopefully).

Yes I am so lucky to have such an understanding BF, he is the one who guides me on nutrition and training so he gets it. He just didn't realise the difference in nutritional value he just picked up the first mince and didn't check.

If he doesn't return from the shop don't be suprised 😂 I am joking, to be honest if it's not what you want to eat then fair enough although I probably would have gone back out myself and not asked him to go, it does make you sound like a brat! Don't scare him off, he sounds lovely!

AgentProvocateur · 03/03/2021 10:47

You sound like a fun couple 😂

Sparklfairy · 03/03/2021 10:47

Tbf if you're calorie counting, mince with pork is not a great choice and you'll end up with less quantity wise. Unless you're on keto in which case its good Grin beef and pork mince is tricky in chilli as so much fat comes out and it ends up swimming in it, I only really use it for burgers.

I'll be in the minority but I would have done the same (possibly saying the reasons I mentioned rather than yours!) because I love food and I'd resent using my calorie allowance on 'empty' extra fat rather than rice and naan.

He just hasn't realised - he has 1000 extra calories a day to play with!

FedUp1984 · 03/03/2021 10:47

Oh my goodness, what a non event.
YABU re the mince, and for making a post about this.

EatTheMince · 03/03/2021 10:48

He is furloughed and I am working so he offered to pick up the new mince.

I honestly do appreciate him massively and make sure to tell him so too. He's amazing.

It's one meal and 1400 calories ?

Newcastleteacake · 03/03/2021 10:48

Couldn't you just eat it and do extra sit ups in the morning?

VerityWibbleWobble · 03/03/2021 10:49

I was going to say you're an unreasonable brat but you've said you'll freeze it and use it later, so yes he can go and get more mince.

I'll go against the grain and say YANBU. I've got a very low daily calorie requirement simply because I'm short and 60, so I understand it's difficult to work within a low 'budget'.

The other mince won't be wasted and you'll eat properly.

You've got a very nice BF!

Maxellious · 03/03/2021 10:50

My first instinct is that you don't have a very healthy attitude to food, if this is how you always are. It's not just the calorie counting, it's the fact that you aren't willing to forgo the extras to the meal on the occasion that the "wrong" mince was bought. Rice ok, but surely you could just leave off the naan?

However, if this is part of a short term "reeducation" about what you are eating fine, but don't do it for longer than a month. Then use what you have learnt about portion sizes, but stop obsessing.

GreenSlide · 03/03/2021 10:50

YABU. Will you be able to stick to this very strict way of eating long term?

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2021 10:51

Is this weight loss for some sort of professional reason? Seriously, if one meal over your calorie allowance is a disaster, your diet must be pretty miserable.

EatTheMince · 03/03/2021 10:51

@Newcastleteacake

We already exercise 3 times a day and to burn off the extra 300 calories would take too long. I'm fairly small so don't burn off much.

Walk in the morning 40 mins 250ish cals
Weights in the after noon 1 hour 250ish cals
HIIT class in the evening 30 mins 200 cals
