DP went and got all the ingredients for tonight's dinner which he is going to cook. We don't live together but are in a bubble so eat together a lot.

We are on a strict cut cycle before the gyms reopen so counting calories and macros. I obviously get a lot less calories than he does though. He tries to eat 2500 and I get 1400.

He is making chilli and he has bought pork and beef mince rather than lean mince beef. I wasn't going to say anything but when logging the calories this morning (I plan my day out in advance) I figured out that it is significantly more calorific. I mean if we had lean mince I could have chilli rice and a mini naan for less calories than just the chilli made with the other mince.

I couldn't help myself but mention it and BF has agreed to go any get more mince but I feel like an absolute brat! Usually I would just be great full that someone has bought and cooked a meal for me and eat what I am given but I am really trying to focus right now.

So YABU - it's only one meal you should have kept quiet.

YANBU - he knows you are on a strict calorie allowance and should get the lean mince.

@pandarific

I love you op. Grin I wish I was anything like you tbh!

I was raised with ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods and ‘greediness’ and ‘fat talk’ and I hate the effect it’s had on my life.

If I hadn’t had a bloody grade 1 cystocele (pelvic organ injury) I’d love to get into lifting, I know a lot of very cool, smart women who do it to be strong and fit - I admire you!

That sounds like a tough injury to have! I hope you are having some treatment.

Strong is key, I want biceps and quads. No abs though, I don't have anywhere near the dedication required for that!
@EatTheMince your diet must make you very chill because I would NOT have been that polite to that very patronising post!
You should try lentils by the way! Lentil soup is lush. They're a complete protein apparently so probably could fit into your way of eating nicely.
I have too many endorphins to get mad Grin and a nice lean chilli bubbling away - life is good.

My point exactly, your calorie deficit is too drastic and not healthy. Also your TDEE is way too low unless you are extremely short and very young. Calories that low won’t burn fat by the way, your body will also lose muscle, mess up your hormones and your metabolism. All I’m saying is educate yourself. I’ve been lifting weights for 5 years so trust me I definitely understand the basics.
As die asking your bf to go and by mince.. no big deal. Or you could pop out and get it yourself. It ain’t that deep.

I have used a few different calculations and they pretty much all come out within 100 of each other for my BMR. I know some muscle will be lost but that's true of any diet. I am eating over 1g of protein per lb to protect it as best I can but I am always great full for any tips if you have any.

I wish my DH was on the same page as me regarding food and diet. I'm desperately trying to keep weight off, watching him consume tubs of Ben and Jerry's etc. It's soul destroying and he's wrecking his health which upsets me even more.

Btw, I don't think YABU, he offered and I'd say he's a keeper. This is actually quite an interesting thread and insight into bodybuilding.

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 03/03/2021 20:01

For next time, you can get rid of most of the fat by rendering it slowly and draining it off (but not down the drain!). Turkey mince is very low fat and makes cracking keema.

EatTheMince · 03/03/2021 20:26

It didn't even occur to me to just suggest draining the fat. A few posters have suggested it and now its glaringly obvious and so simple!

I had an ex like that, always ordering takeaways and wanting to go to the pub. He would say oh have a day off, don't be a bore. Whilst he was very much overweight, it was one of the reasons we split in the end, we just had nothing in common.

YANBU

Personally I only eat lean mince and wouldn't touch pork/beef mince.

EarringsandLipstick · 03/03/2021 20:58

@NorbertMeubles

I mean this in the nicest way just you need to get a life
How, exactly, can that be meant in the nicest way?

Some people ... 🙄

1Morewineplease · 03/03/2021 21:04

You need this, to mop up loose fat...

Plus, you need to stop micro managing your calorie intake. Your life sounds addictive, akin to alcoholism in that you NEED to act in a certain way in order to feel good.

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/03/2021 21:21

Wow.. theres some serious judgement going on in here...

The OP has a particular goal and lifestyle in mind, if thats not your goal and your hobby, thats just fine.

As for '1400 cal. is not ok, not sustainable blah blah etc'...

Yeah? I have to stick to 1000 cal.

Is that suitable for everyone, no of course it isn't, but thats the medical advice I have been given, for me, my body, my life... and no im not a weight lifter or body builder.

RiojaRose · 03/03/2021 21:55

I know nothing about fitness and I don’t know what macros are, but I do know that a mixture of beef and pork mince is really good for Italian meatballs, which are herby and spicy and filling - and freeze very well, so you don’t have to eat them all at once.

Hope you enjoyed your chilli! And no, YANBU. It seems to me that the whole point of a regime like yours is to stick with it if you can, as long as you remain healthy and feel good.

RightOnTheEdge · 04/03/2021 00:09

There was absolutely nothing nice about that comment. The OP has a life and seems very happy with it and her relationship.

Mostlylurkingiam · 04/03/2021 04:23

You are being very silly, just eat the amount that fits with your calorie intake, it's not difficult! A bit more fat is satisfying anyway so you will feel just as full.
