What are your opinions?

I feel that her dual heritage has been used against her, to push her towards Bangladesh.

However, I do feel she is a threat to the general public and it would be incredibly difficult to control/monitor her actions. Which may put the rest of the population at risk.

This is just an open debate. Let’s try not to rip each other apart, more of a healthy debate

She’s not dual heritage. She’s a British citizen.

An appeal against the loss of citizenship can be held with the person appealing being in another country, and joining virtually. Justice need not be analogue.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 26/02/2021 20:44

I feel really torn about this, she was 15 groomed, someone should've stepped in before she went, she was known to authorities. However I do absolutely believe she poses a very high risk of serious harm to the public. I work in criminal justice and whilst human rights are protected they cannot trump public protection.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/02/2021 20:45

She cannot return for the appeal. Her case can be heard despite that.

Lillylolo · 26/02/2021 20:45

Apologies. I meant the uk has made out she is entitled to citizenship elsewhere so it was easier to strip her of her British citizenship

I think if she was allowed to return she should be locked up and as that wouldn’t happen she shouldn’t be allowed to return. She made her bed.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/02/2021 20:47

There's already a thread on this subject today which you might want to join.

neutraliseacid · 26/02/2021 20:47

What’s your AIBU?

jasjas1973 · 26/02/2021 20:48

How is she going to get to zoom/teams, plus get legal representation whilst in a detention camp in Syria?

The UK shouldn't dump her on the RoW, whatever she has done, she is our problem and should face UK justice, same as any other suspect.

heatherhoneys · 26/02/2021 20:48

@SpaceRaiders

She’s not dual heritage. She’s a British citizen.
You can be dual heritage and still be a British citizen, I have dual heritage but am British - the two are not mutually exclusive.
Elouera · 26/02/2021 20:48

Couldn't she apply to live in the Netherlands where her husband is from? I think he is back there himself, but I've never seen this option mentioned is discounted.

SimonJT · 26/02/2021 20:49

Heritage and citizenship aren’t linked.

Heritage is ethnicity, citizenship is a man made legal procesa.

StudentProblems · 26/02/2021 20:49

@Chicchicchicchiclana do you have a link please? I searched and couldn’t find it

ChristOnAPeloton · 26/02/2021 20:49

I think she’s our problem, and we shouldn’t be dumping her on Syria or Bangladesh to deal with.

poblwcymru · 26/02/2021 20:49

Like @EachBleachBlairTrump I am torn.

We all make stupid decisions at 15 although her mistake was of epic proportions. If it's true that 3 of her children have died she's had a traumatic 5 years and will suffer the effects of that forever. I don't believe she is sorry though and that puts so many people at risk if she were to return and radicalise others. Her human rights can't put thousands of others at risk.

She doesn't need to return to appeal though.

Sumwin1 · 26/02/2021 20:50

I agree she would pose a huge risk however it’s better they put her in a high security prison or something. Has she been medically assessed? I would be interested to know.

She’s British and it’s not fair to bend the rules as it fits ones narrative.

@SpaceRaiders you can be dual citizenship and British. Absolutely Shamima is British people are just looking for any excuse..

This ^^
FuckyouCovid21 · 26/02/2021 20:50

If she does get to come back, think of how much money it'll cost to keep her safe

Sunnydays999 · 26/02/2021 20:51

Regardless of what the situation is with her heritage I don’t want her hear . So I’m glad at the outcome

CoRhona · 26/02/2021 20:51

Your AIBU isn't clear.

What the govt are doing is to make damn sure that any other impressionable teen doesn't do what she did.

jasjas1973 · 26/02/2021 20:52

No one knows if she poses a risk to the UK but if she has still got terrorist sympathies, its our problem to sort, not a developing country like Bangladesh.

lioncitygirl · 26/02/2021 20:52

I’m torn - I don’t think she should be allowed come back here as she poses a national risk - but I’m unsure who would take her as she’s British. Even if she was jailed here - the system here wouldn’t jail her indefinitely, and she’ll be out in a few years - what then?

Snoozysnoozy · 26/02/2021 20:53

I don't think anyone that goes to fight for/support ISIS deserves to come back to the UK. She can fuck off and face justice in the country she was captured in.

AnitaB888 · 26/02/2021 20:53

She was stripped of British Citizenship on National Security grounds.

She chose to join an organisation committed to the annihilation of 'infidels' and the destruction of western civilisation, so of course she can't come back to UK.
