Why do they do this? Ive seen two in the last 24 hours! Nothing remotely insulting, libellous or argumentative on them! It's like the only discussion with which they agree is allowed to take place! I personally think it spoils MN, they will probably remove this discussion pretty sharpish anyway!

@Hobnobswantshernameback

Oh god not another fucking Megan and Harry thread Just fucking enough
Theres a simple solution, just don't read it Hmm

TotorosFurryBehind · 07/03/2021 15:31

Because anything controversial is reported by people as a troll.

DeeCeeCherry · 07/03/2021 15:32

Oh. Having scrolled back I see this is really angst about the Meghan thread being deleted. The 'Black women support Meghan and White Women dont' poster🙄followed by reams of bitching about Meghan.

Glad it was zapped. Lots of racism + women sounding exactly the same as ignorant sexist misogynists isn't edifying. Surely there are other forums for people to get their rocks off on all that.

wewillmeetagain · 07/03/2021 15:33

@TotorosFurryBehind I honestly don't get why people feel the absolute need to control what others discuss. Obviously if it's outright offensive then that's different but just because people don't agree with an opinion it doesn't make it wrong or offensive.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 07/03/2021 15:33

I was reading a thread about general deletions
You've chosen to turn it into a Megan and Harry thread
And I wasn't aware that OP's could decide who did or didn't read or comment on their threads
Wasn't there a new forum started a while back where people could scream and shout to their hearts content about the evil Megz unmoderated?
Maybe you could check that one out

wewillmeetagain · 07/03/2021 15:35

In my opinion its a form of fascism m dressed up as doing the right thing and being inclusive.

YANBU!

There's been a couple I've posted on in the last 24-48 hours and I've not been able to find a trace of them

Realise it's because I'm mostly using the app for Mumsnet

When I logged in on my laptop a few mins ago I can see them on my "threads I'm on" list and there's a little blue dot under the title meaning it's been zapped

DeeCeeCherry · 07/03/2021 15:42

I scrolled up and saw MM etc comments. It's not invisible writing obviously so its still there to see.

MNHQ are doing a good job in zapping the goadys even if there is moaning about it so that's the main thing.

TurquoiseDress · 07/03/2021 15:42

Is there a chance we'd end up having to pay for MN one day?

That one has completely passed me by!

I would definitely not be paying to use this site, especially if there are threads (in interested in & have posted on) being deleted

I know there are thousands of other threads on here, but it's just very annoying when you've posted & written replies to other posters etc and then it just goes poof

There may be thousands of other threads, but I'm just not interested enough to even read them let alone comment

OhWhyNot · 07/03/2021 17:11

They most definitely do. Unless it's obvious, overt racism, sexism etc who gets to decide what offends one person but may not offend another?

So unless particular words are used offensive comments should be ignored as not everyone shall see how offence some are being

Right. So basically those who have had experience and know exactly what is being said in an underhand way or those that recognise it should shut up

Do you understand what fascism is ?

wewillmeetagain · 07/03/2021 18:07

@OhWhyNot ok fascism was maybe a bit of a strong word to use but censorship is not and that's exactly what it is! So being offended by something someone say because you have decided that it has an underlying meaning rather than just what it actually says, means that no one else should be able to read it and decide for themselves?

OP posts:
OhWhyNot · 07/03/2021 18:17

So again any form of prejudice should be ignored unless explicit

Should I ignore that time and time again in meetings at work the men talk over the women or the sexist remarks towards young female members of staff that are dressed up as compliments or that assumptions made because of someone’s ethnic background

Right ok that’s a step back

wewillmeetagain · 07/03/2021 18:22

Do men talking over women is a form of sexism? Or is it just plain rudeness?

OP posts:
LucieStar · 07/03/2021 18:23

Some of the earlier comments on her said that MN can usually tell whether someone is genuine due to name change history. Am I right in thinking name changing is allowed for the purposes of not wanting to be identified? Or is it frowned upon?

LucieStar · 07/03/2021 18:23

*here

OhWhyNot · 07/03/2021 18:25

Well it certainly is being rude

I am well aware of what sexism is because I have been of the receiving end of sexist behaviour for well most of my life. Can I not decided what is and what isn’t sexist. Why are men not talked over in the same way

wewillmeetagain · 07/03/2021 18:25

@LucieStar I think the majority of decent members name change because they don't want to be identified, trolls most probably name change a lot more after causing trouble. Well thats my take on it anyway.

Having words in both nursing and midwifery which are predominantly female professions i can say with certainty that men are most definitely talked over in these circumstances. Its not acceptable either way, its just rude! Doesn't make it sexist though. Someone people seem to want to be permanently offended.

Tbf even if it is a troll, if it's not offensive then I wouldn't bother reporting anyway. If it's goady, offensive etc that's a different matter. It's never actually ever occurred to me to report a single thread I've ever read 🤷🏻‍♀️

DrSbaitso · 07/03/2021 18:45

Someone people seem to want to be permanently offended.

You just started an entire thread to tell us repeatedly about how offended you are.

OhWhyNot · 07/03/2021 18:53

But if it is sexism why should that not be called out ?

I know what is sexism experienced it enough like I have said before and I know that can lead to what is considered rude but I know it’s from a place of sexist ideas. Why should that be accepted or be called out as rude as that’s more comfortable for people to deal with

turquoisewaters · 07/03/2021 19:26

dressed up as doing the right thing and being inclusive

Often the 'inclusive' types only want to include those who agree with them

Lots of trolls post seemingly inoffensive threads to either get people to send them money (and yes, they do - sometimes quite large amounts) or to get people to contact them and share personal information.

Some may be journalists or students looking to gather responses by the back door. Sometimes on some very sensitive or personal subjects. Would you be happy for your experience of a miscarriage (for example) to be lifted and plastered all over the daily mail?

The test isn't just about if they're offensive or goady. MN deletes a lot of threads because they're posted with less than good intentions, not just because they're offensive.

LucieStar · 07/03/2021 19:47

MN deletes a lot of threads because they're posted with less than good intentions, not just because they're offensive.

Genuine question: how does MN accurately work out the person's intentions?
