To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

Here's an article from the Beeb discussing the fact that despite hand washing being a huge contributing factor to public health and longevity and despite consistent messages from public health authorities that hand washing after going to the loo is intrinsic to public health, people in wealthier and better resources countries who should know better still just don't want to wash their hands

Happyone8 · 07/02/2021 14:22

How about you start a new hobby called - being hygienic

StanfordPines · 07/02/2021 14:26
@StanfordPines actually I can't tell you the last time I went into a supermarket. So you are incorrect.
I love the way everyone loves to make assumptions about other people and dictate how they live their lives. It's really unnecessary.
Do what you want with you life. Sit around with you unwashed hands. What do you do with the extra minutes saved each day?
I’m not dictating what you do and this thread has been a timely reminder that other people don’t have the same standards as I do.

I too haven’t been to a supermarket in the best part of a year. But other people do. I don’t imagine that all the people who don’t wash their hands on this thread never go to a shop.

XenoBitch · 07/02/2021 14:35

I live alone and don't wash my hands after a wee. If I have a guest though, and am about to make them a cuppa or something then I will then. I wash them in a public loo but that is more for show because of other people being there too.
So, shoot me.

OunceOfFlounce · 07/02/2021 14:39

Haha, my train of thought now is whether everyone reacting so angrily leaves the door open when they poo. If the door handle is such a potent source of disease, how do they get out of their loos without contaminating their hands and spreading it round their houses?

I don’t touch the door handle with unwashed hands. Go in to the loo. Close door, which does not require the handle. Use the toilet. Wash hands. Open door.
OunceOfFlounce · 07/02/2021 15:05

StanfordPines At work, I unlock and open it with a tissue on my way out. But this thread has really got me thinking about the chain of infection. I've been told here that bathrooms are just an unhygienic environment and it's reminded me I've previously heard they're covered in a patina of faeces. Also heard form lots of non washers who are never ill. Food for thought!

OunceOfFlounce · 07/02/2021 15:09

Oh, sorry. I've just looked up the Michael Pollan quote and it's not bathrooms. He was quoting microbiologist Stanley Falkow: The world is covered in a fine patina of feces.

paintfairy · 07/02/2021 15:14

Moving on from toilet habits and thinking more about bedroom activities......

So, most of you have never done anything orally then, or had it done to you? So either you standards that only apply when it suits you, or a very dull time........

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 07/02/2021 15:26

Paintfairy, if you're using your mouth to open doors, shake other people's hands, pick up produce in shops, cook, and wipe your bum then I hope you brush your teeth and use mouthwash after you give oral sex.

paintfairy · 07/02/2021 15:40

So it's OK to sample my DHs wee and poo but not any other, because his isn't dirty? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Worrying world you are all living in.

KatyClaire · 07/02/2021 15:44

I would feel grim if I didn’t wash my hands after a wee. It’s so simple and seems such a basic element of personal hygiene.

I don't wash my hands every time I do a wee (at home). But I do wash my hands before I go shopping and when I get home from shopping and before preparing dinner and after handling raw meat and so on. And in public loos when there is hot water, soap and a sensible hand dryer - otherwise I may as well not bother.

I also don't believe everyone has a shower every time they have sex!

A whole 40 page thread on this Grin

And the faecal matter wont' float around if you put the lid down before you flush

lucyrp · 07/02/2021 16:02

@hamsterchump would never let my child wash their hands in a public toilet sink- not without holding some tissue to turn the tap on etc. Depends how clean the specific toilets were talking about are. Oh and guess what ? I don't wash my hands after every wee in my home. And I've somehow managed to keep a child alive for 6 years, wow magic !

TheQuaffle · 07/02/2021 16:02

I wash after every wee. Tbh it’s disgusting and lazy not to.

I never close the door when going to the loo at home only if other people are round. I quite enjoy a conversation with my OH whilst sat having a number 2☺️
Whyistheteacold · 07/02/2021 16:05

Unless you live alone that's pretty grim for everyone else who has to live with you

paintfairy · 07/02/2021 16:09

@PlanDeRaccordement oh god. No i won't. 🤣
@SimonJT yeah so do we. Funnily enough I use it every day. But is it timed perfectly before sex every time? I would say never. 🤣 Because I do not schedule it in my bloody diary. 🙄
I think it would somewhat ruin the mood if I said- hold that thought babe, i need you to wash because you might have had a wee this evening and that is dirty. 🤣🤣🤣
I might try it. Just to see the look on his face. Priceless..... 🤣

OunceOfFlounce · 07/02/2021 16:13

Reduces so called 'toilet plume' by 30-60%. Patina still looking likely.

lucyrp Lool! Blush Grin

Happyone8 · 07/02/2021 16:18

Do people not wash downstairs before oral sex either 🤢

Happyone8 · 07/02/2021 16:19

@poppycat10 now you’re touching a toilet seat , so that’s ok then
