To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

@CookEatRepeat

🤮 I couldn’t not. I always put the lid down too. I find the concept of not doing either abhorrent.
I love the competitive exaggeration on here sometimes.

Personally I find things like racism, domestics violence and child abuse to be abhorrent. Not quite the same as not putting the toilet seat down, but everyone needs a cause to fight for I guess.

@eaglejulesk

I really hope some of you are never caught up in a natural disaster when, shock horror - there may not be water to wash your hands with!! (and no flushing toilet either).
That's ridiculous. What happens in a disaster time doesn't guide what we do in normal times when we have access to soap and water.

The point I was making, obviously lost on you, is how on earth some of the namby-pamby people on this thread (and indeed many others) would cope with something outside their cozy little germ free worlds. Honestly, it's pathetic the way some people imagine the world is full of nasty germs out to get them at every corner. Those of us with a more earthy nature would manage - others would be in a hysterical heap on the floor, crying "how grim".

Nonamesavail · 07/02/2021 07:53

I wouldn't class not putting the lid down as abhorrent.

lovemelongtime · 07/02/2021 08:07

"scary read" oh ffs, get over it. Urine is sterile, some people even drink it!
Always was after a poo but not often after a wee, why would I need to? I don't piss on my hands and our loo is bleached every other day.

Why do you think urine is sterile?
Annabell80 · 07/02/2021 08:39

Presumably you don't poo on your hands either but you still wash them do why not after a wee?
I'm not a germ phobic but I just don't want to walk round after having a wee without washing my hands

StanfordPines · 07/02/2021 08:40

@edwinbear

Also hope the hand washers are using bars of soap rather than plastic bottles Angry
I have liquid soap that comes in a glass bottle which I return with the milk bottle for closed loop recycling. Thanks for your concern.
Annabell80 · 07/02/2021 08:42

Also if you want when I do your picking for home shopping you'd like me to have clean hands. If not perhaps I'll make some exceptions.
Totally disgusting!

And in a natural disaster then I would cope perfectly well thank you. However I live in a place and time where clean water and soap are available so I shall continue to use them.

It’s like the bullshit question you get as a vegetarian/vegan. I was once asked ‘if you were stuck on a desert island and there was nothing to eat but rabbits what would you do?’ Well that isn’t going to happen is it but if it did I’d eat the rabbits. I’m vegetarian because I live in a time and place that allows me to be.

I always wondered why the government had to constantly drill in the importance of “hand hygiene” throughout the pandemic. You wouldn’t have thought the general public needed to be reminded to carry out such basic hygiene, especially with the risk of COVID-19. This thread has been a real eye opener🥴 very trampy behaviour

This is specifically aimed at public shared spaces though- the government couldn't care less if you wash your hands after a quick wee in your own home, pandemic or no pandemic.

midnightstar66 · 07/02/2021 08:50

*Curious about the non washers.

Do you teach your children that hand hygiene follows a flowchart and is optional in certain circumstances...

Home pees - ah fuck it just forget it
Out of home pees - probably a good idea - but don't worry if you are out walking or in a remote area?

Mind blown* 🤯

This is a good example of the lack of critical thinking many suffer from. You don't, rather shouldn't need to teach these things - dc, or anyone really, should be able to work out by themselves - probably by the age of around 4 or 5 when it's pertinent and when it matters less without the need for a visual chart or direct teaching. As a general rule I'd say if there are no hand washing facilities available in the area (ie somewhere remote) it probably isn't going to be a big deal.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 07/02/2021 08:56

Honestly, it's pathetic the way some people imagine the world is full of nasty germs out to get them at every corner.

Genuinely hilarious in circumstances where we're all confined to our homes because of a nasty germ that's out to get us and can be transmitted by unwashed hands

rockinaftermidnite · 07/02/2021 08:58

I wash my hands every single time. Simple, basic hygiene. I use hand cream every night before sleep to keep them from drying out.

MaxNormal · 07/02/2021 09:14

but don't worry if you are out walking or in a remote area?

Where exactly am I meant to wash my hands when out walking?
I wash them when I get back to our campervan afterwards.
Please explain how I have put myself or anyone else at any risk whatsoever?

Doyoumind · 07/02/2021 09:16

To those claiming some are exaggerating, I'm not. I wash my hands with soap whenever I go for a wee.

To those who don't wash, if you have children, when they were babies didn't you wash your hands when you changed a wet nappy, and didn't you wash your hands after going for a wee before picking up or playing with your baby? If you didn't, wow. If you did, you acknowledge there's a reason for washing hands.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/02/2021 09:17

That's disgusting. Of course I wash them every time I go to the loo.

Icenii · 07/02/2021 09:23

All my family wash their hands. And yes it's gross when people walk out of public loos and don't bother washing their hands. That's why I use tissue or sleeves to touch handles and taps in a loo, but I'm not understanding the dramatics around people not washing their hands after a wee at night in their own homes or on a hill walk. Yes it's unhygienic but deserving of dramatics? Nah. It's almost as if posters are trying to convey how perfect their hand washing is.

lynsey91 · 07/02/2021 09:26

@0gfhty

I'm pretty amazed at the amount of people who are so uptight they can't go for a wee in their own homes without washing hands! Go on I dare you! Next time drip dry and run!
I am amazed at the amount of skanky posters who don't wash their hands. Not a matter of being uptight just a clean and hygienic person
midnightstar66 · 07/02/2021 09:28

If you didn't, wow. If you did, you acknowledge there's a reason for washing hands.

I don't think this is comparable. When changing a baby you clean the entire nappy area closely including the bottom, likely touching skin several times, you might apply cream with your bare hands and then handle a wet soiled nappy. I don't know about you but when going for a wee I don't touch the genital or surrounding area whatsoever. Scrunched loo roll to dab means I don't even get close. (I do wash my hands in this situation fwiw but cannot get upset by someone who doesn't)

I completely agree if you are out walking. You haven’t touched anything then. No flush or handles. You won’t be then off into the supermarket touching stuff or making a cup of tea for visitors.

You won't be doing either of these things if you fail to wash your hands when alone in your home either. OP has confirmed she does wash her hands in the situations you have given

BoJoHoNo · 07/02/2021 09:39

Yes, unless everyone in your house is cleaning the flush everytime they use the toilet, you're potentially getting faecal particles from the flush and spreading them around your house. I'm prone to dry hands, so keep handcream by the sink. I've noticed the majority of people don't bother washing their hands after using the toilet in public. I can hear the flush and lack of handwashing from my counter at work, it's pretty disgusting. I'm glad I can wash my hands regularly at work but feel sorry for those working in supermarkets etc who don't have the option.

Happyone8 · 07/02/2021 09:47

@BoJoHoNo exactly - people forget they touch the flusher , paper and other unhygienic things in the bathroom , which have been touched by others poo hands. They then carry that onto the door handle and outside to everyone else .
It’s really gross and I’d be so embarrassed to try and justify this on here like your justifications are valid 🤮

islockdownoveryet · 07/02/2021 09:47

@eaglejulesk

Well if that happens then you have no choice but here we are talking about people in their own homes with running water and soap but are too lazy to spend a extra 2 minutes in the bathroom washing hands which is no excuse for . I think if we are caught up in a natural disaster and I need the loo I won’t worry about washing my hands on that occasion.
