To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

@Piranesio

So you wash your hands after a shit but not a pee? And use the logic that it's ok because you don't buse your hand...

Surely, you don't use your hand to wipe after a shit?!

Surely you're old enough not to get shit on your hand if you also use paper?

So what's the actual difference?

Yes, if course I always wash my hands. After either.

Difference in levels of bacteria, risk etc

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 05/02/2021 22:47

Every single time, yes. Grim that anyone doesn't.

Dontjudgeme101 · 05/02/2021 22:48

@SimonJT

Yes, its basic hygiene.
Second this.
Puzzler333 · 05/02/2021 22:48

The bacteria on your anus are not the same as the ones on your mouth.
Toilet paper is only so thick. It's hardly unthinkable that wee will soak through and be on your hands.

It takes half a minute to properly wash and dry your hands. And I'll admit to sometimes doing less than a thorough wash when I'm my own home, but no way I'm walking away from wiping without washing them.

MiaMc · 05/02/2021 22:49

Minging. Absolutely minging.

This is one of the reasons I don’t enjoy eating other people’s food.

Cissyandflora · 05/02/2021 22:49

@Sbowiegirl

I do. And my 5 year old son does too. Without prompting (not that he’s particularly well behaved, it’s just automatic)
Same here. Even my toddler. It’s just automatic. And I’m glad to teach the importance of good hygiene. Always wash hands before preparing food, after taking bins out, after feeding pets. And absolutely after the loo. Doesn’t depend what you do on the loo. Funnily enough when we first got the Covid advice about washing hands and being more hygienic I wondered- are there people who don’t have this basic understanding of hygiene? Then I realised. Yes. Yes there are.
GabriellaMontez · 05/02/2021 22:49

Yanbu.
I don't.

After a poo yes. Urine is sterile.

Before preparing food yes.

Also if I wee in the night I don't flush. Really sorry if anyone is further horrified by this. But may help those of you who are horrified by cross contamination.

whoamongstus · 05/02/2021 22:49

@saleboat

What's actually disgusting though? Tell me

You've got piss on your hands, so, there is that.

What are you doing that gets piss on your hands??!

The dirtiest part would be touching the toilet flush. I have no skin to skin contact with piss or my genitals during urination and I'm really not sure why you do...

StripyHorse · 05/02/2021 22:49

Eww 🤢

It would never occur to me to NOT wash my hands after a wee. Why wouldn't you??

DariaMorgendorffer · 05/02/2021 22:50

Oh Jesus Sad this is scary to read. Of course I do! Every. Time!

PickleThePenguin · 05/02/2021 22:50

Always wash my hands even if it's the middle of the night. I couldn't walk out of the bathroom without washing them

jazzandh · 05/02/2021 22:50

No. Not every time. My bathrooms are clean and I am fairly sure my hands aren't covered in particular germs.

I wash my hands before I prepare food or touch surfaces.

whoamongstus · 05/02/2021 22:50

And yep I'm another rotter that doesn't necessarily ;)

But then I don't piss on my hands and I would always wash them before cooking to ease some of the worries of previous posters!

severussnaperus · 05/02/2021 22:51

I do wash my hands..

But at night time after having sex with DH..I just go to sleep

Is that as bad? I think so.. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Grossedout12 · 05/02/2021 22:51

Inspired by my post, OP? Hmm 😂🙈

SimonJT · 05/02/2021 22:51

Why do people wrongly think urine is sterile?

PickAChew · 05/02/2021 22:51

My hands are washed constantly. The 7 or 8 wees I have per day are only part of it. But added to that are the countless times that my hands get sticky or greasy or covered in stuff that cleans up the sticky or greasy stuff.

PattyPan · 05/02/2021 22:51

WTF. I am lax on hygiene by MN standards but no way would I ever consider not washing my hands after using the loo! Even if I try to go and nothing comes out (e.g. before setting off somewhere) then I still wash my hands!

Lillygolightly · 05/02/2021 22:52

I wash my hands every time I go into the bathroom regardless of whether I’ve used the toilet or not. I get that this is probably overkill but that’s my ocd.

I think that everyone should wash their hands after using the toilet though, regardless of whether it’s a number 1 or 2!! Home or not! Otherwise yuck, sorry!

poppyzbrite4 · 05/02/2021 22:52

I was my hands after using the loo and before touching food. I wash them when I get in as well, even before covid.

Cissyandflora · 05/02/2021 22:52

@MiaMc

Minging. Absolutely minging.

This is one of the reasons I don’t enjoy eating other people’s food.

Me too- if someone is comfortable going to the loo and not washing their hands I just imagine how revolting it would be to eat or drink anything at their house. I mean it’s 20 seconds. What about teeth brushing? Waste of time? Bum wiping? You could skip that and then by default you wouldn’t need to wash your hands after a poo! Saving time and money!
NewCatMummy · 05/02/2021 22:53

Nb I’m shielding and have a reasonable knowledge of microbiology. Happy to not wash groceries, postal items and to kiss cats and dogs. Don’t use antibacterial surface sprays (covid is a virus anyway....). But washing hands properly after toilet trips, raw meat, litter trays/poo picking and before eating is non negotiable.

steff13 · 05/02/2021 22:53

@LunaNorth

I have to. I feel weird if I don’t. My hands feel all warm and clammy.

(And no, I don’t wee on them).

Exactly. I can "feel" that I didn't wash them.
MiaMc · 05/02/2021 22:53

Urine is not sterile!

Emmelina · 05/02/2021 22:53

That’s gross, why would you not?
