To think not everyone washes their hands after every single wee when in their own home?

Anything other than a wee, yes of course.

But washing hands after every bloody wee is overkill in my opinion

I do, I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t. I could no more not wash my hands than drop litter. But equally do what you want in your own house, just remember to wash your hands when you elsewhere.

Nonamesavail · 05/02/2021 22:53

I dont.

PattyPan · 05/02/2021 22:54

I have a small bladder and sensitive skin too but I just moisturise my hands after washing them, not just skip the washing altogether 🤢

steff13 · 05/02/2021 22:54

@SimonJT

Why do people wrongly think urine is sterile?
I know they said it on an episode of House. But I also know it's not correct.
grapewine · 05/02/2021 22:54

It only takes a quick Google search to realise that urine is not sterile.

freezedriedromance · 05/02/2021 22:54

Only time I don't is if I have a wee just before jumping in the shower..where they're then inevitably washed by default when using soap in the shower.

islockdownoveryet · 05/02/2021 22:54

God course I do , the only time I haven’t is If I’ve gone in the middle of the night . And then I’ve felt bad the next morning. You absolutely must wash your hands each and every time you use the bathroom it’s not a deal .

Londoncatshed · 05/02/2021 22:54

Yes of course. My children have also been taught to also. I thought this was normal, basic hygiene. I’m shocked. Just think what the person previous to you in the toilet has done, then touched the flush, that you then use.

Lemmeout · 05/02/2021 22:54

I do. It’s manky. Dropping pee wee germs all over everything you touch.

grapewine · 05/02/2021 22:55

Crosspost, steff13

AlternativePerspective · 05/02/2021 22:55

Anyone who doesn’t is minging.

I wouldn’t eat in their house, wouldn’t want my children going there, etc. Anyone who thinks that having a wee isn’t unhygienic is just gross.

Redglitter · 05/02/2021 22:55

Ewww it wouldn't cross my mind to not wash my hands & I live alone and have a clean bathroom

Cissyandflora · 05/02/2021 22:55

@GabriellaMontez

Yanbu. I don't.

After a poo yes. Urine is sterile.

Before preparing food yes.

Also if I wee in the night I don't flush. Really sorry if anyone is further horrified by this. But may help those of you who are horrified by cross contamination.

Haha urine is sterile! What’s that smell of wee? Poo is sterile too.
Theowawaynow · 05/02/2021 22:56

Really wish I hadn’t read this thread, wash your hands how skanky and lazy! Even my kids know how!!

iveturnedintoachip · 05/02/2021 22:56

I thought everyone washed their hands after wee, I never even assumed it was a thing not too!

LubaLuca · 05/02/2021 22:56

It really is the most basic of hygiene measures, so I'm surprised anyone would deliberately dodge it. It's so convenient to wash your hands straight after using the toilet.

Do you have to keep a mental log of when you hadn't washed your hands after using the toilet, so then wash them before eg putting the kettle on?

PickAChew · 05/02/2021 22:57

@pumpkinbump

I was just thinking about this after reading another thread. If a woman has a wee, she doesn't touch anything, other than the toilet roll and the flush. So is it really needed, but I always wash my hands after a well, they don't feel clean otherwise.
Toilet roll isn't waterproof.
AlternativePerspective · 05/02/2021 22:57

Incidentally, there has been a genuine link between increased hand hygiene and less instances of flu/norrovirus. Maybe if more people actually washed their hands less people would end up with these kinds of bugs.

asdnamechange · 05/02/2021 22:57

I always wash my hands after the loo

I’m pretty sure I read before that men are statistically more likely to not wash their hands after

iveturnedintoachip · 05/02/2021 22:58

The people who use public toilets and then emerge from the cubicle, look in the mirror & fix their hair & waltz off leave me agog! at least pretend to wash.

Hopalong28374 · 05/02/2021 22:58

I rarely wash my hands ‘properly’ I.e with soap and water, only really in public toilets or if they’re visibly dirty. I am careful but not fastidious about handling uncooked chicken etc. I have animals and work with horses and I never wash my hands before eating when I’m around them. I drink water from (clean running) steams when I go hiking.

I am literally never ill, never had flu or a serious illness in my life, i’m unlucky if I catch 1 winter cold. This ‘hygiene’ thing people have is so bizarre and weakens immune systems. I have friends whose parents brought them up in super sterile environments and guess what, they have all sorts of allergies and are always catching bugs and things like that Hmm

Seriously eye rolling that there are still people around who believe this ridiculous myth! Even if you're not bright enough to understand the science...a very quick google search will be enough to inform you of the basics! In a nutshell...urine contains bacteria...therefore it isn't sterile! Please educate yourself...and wash your hands!
SonjaMorgan · 05/02/2021 22:59

I don't. My hands dry out and the skin cracks in-between my knuckles. I mean it's not like I wee on them and I regularly disinfect the flush handle.

asdnamechange · 05/02/2021 23:00

Just did a quick google search-
“One in six male workers say they don’t always wash their hands after having a poo at work“ YouGov, 2018 🤢

jazzandh · 05/02/2021 23:00

Ha! My kids know how, but they still need reminding to bother most of the time and I won't tell you how old they are. It's all a bit grim.

Having said that, we are all at home - and no-one has got sick yet from the poor hygiene practices that I suspect they employ, so I can't really stress too much about it.
