To tuck my 10.5 year old in to bed every night?

I’m not! I know that obviously because he wants me to (or rather he doesn’t NOT want me to.... not as though he’d shed a tear or anything if I didn’t Grin but he just sees it as bedtime and I like it.

Just wondering when people stopped doing this and What precipitated the change and was it sudden or drawn out?

He goes to bed, reads his book, I come in, we have a quick chat, I sometimes get to kiss his forehead if I’m lucky, and that’s the process.

I do the same with mine of the same age. He still likes to share a bath with me too. While we were in one the other day he asked if when he was 18 we could swap and he could have the end without the taps!

afromom · 23/01/2021 17:53

I still do this with DS (almost 17), he even lets me kiss his head still 😁 normally when I go to bed/sleep though as he's always up later than me! You have years left OP😁

Went up to her room with my DD almost until she left home for university. We had a nice chat in low light. She wanted me to. If I ever asked the answer was yes. It was a nice little ritual, like you might have a bedtime chat with any housemate.

wingardium8 · 23/01/2021 17:54

Still tuck in and kiss teenage DD (14yo) goodnight. She insists and I am more than happy to oblige.

I can guarantee by 17 he will be going to bed later than me though! He’s in bed by 8 And light off by 8.30 latest and then I’m in bed by 9 latest!

Not just my 11 year old who still gets all that and a story if he wants one, I "tuck" my 13 year old in too! Which basically means a quick check that he's done teeth, a chat and a hug then leave him to it. Its a signal that its time to switch off I think, what's wrong with that x My eldest in particular always bottles up his worries, so its often been when I've found out about what's been bothering him.

tenlittlecygnets · 23/01/2021 17:55

I still do this with my 17yo and 13yo. Love it.

Laiste · 23/01/2021 17:56

It's nice :)

I've got 3 big ones (adult) and one little one (6) and i can't remember how long i did the tuck in for with my big ones, i just think it got simpler and simpler until it was just a head pop round the door or a quick kiss. Once they're teens they're up later than me in their room in the evening anyway sometimes so put themselves to bed when they're ready. I think that's when it naturally died a death here.

NotDonna · 23/01/2021 17:57

Make the most of it while we can!

Pascha · 23/01/2021 17:57

I still read with my 10.5yo. A chapter a night, it's lovely. The day I have to stop reading aloud to him is not one I'm looking forward to. We've been through some great stories this way. (he reads to himself loads too, I'm not forcing anything).

Undies1990 · 23/01/2021 17:58

YANBU. It's a lovely thing to do and such a precious time together - make the most of it while they still want you to tuck them in. Mine at older teenagers and they come and tuck me in these days!

Sethy38 · 23/01/2021 17:58

I love this! Good to know that inevitably imminent

I have a 10.5 yr old too and I so this. I also do it wi to my teenagers!

autumnboys · 23/01/2021 17:59

I still lie on the bed with my 11yo, read to him, have a chat, say a prayer, tuck him in and kiss him goodnight. He’s dyslexic and he loves stories but struggles to read to himself.

autumnboys · 23/01/2021 18:00

Just to add - my favourite bit of the day!

I couldn’t bear reading to them! And loved the day that both read independently!

I so enjoy just chewing the fat.
Or making up if we’ve had a tiff!

My 16 year old likes me to pop in and see him although some nights he pops in and sees me😂

MarshaBradyo · 23/01/2021 18:01

My 11 yr old stills wants a cuddle before sleep

Doyoumind · 23/01/2021 18:02

Not quite as old as yours yet but I do and love it. I worry about the day when I get told to get lost.

GreenSlide · 23/01/2021 18:04

I'd have given anything to have been tucked in by my parents at that age. Their world is getting bigger and they need their little routines more than ever.

UndertheCedartree · 23/01/2021 18:04

My 13yo goes to bed later than me so don't tuck him in. He still likes to listen to a bedtime story with his little DS which I think is lovely Smile

ThatVeganFeminist · 23/01/2021 18:04

I tuck my 12.5 yo in every night. I hope I always do but he's a night owl and at some point he'll be going to bed later than me so that will stop it!

Juanbablo · 23/01/2021 18:05

I still "tuck in" and kiss goodnight my 11 and 13 year olds.

InDispairThisWeek · 23/01/2021 18:06

Dd is 16 and we go up to bed at the same time, we sit and have a chat and then both get ready for bed, last thing I go in, kiss her goodnight and we both go to bed to sleep, it’s really nice and an excellent time to have a chat, we’ve occasionally solved some things that have been on her mind.

sunshineandshowers21 · 23/01/2021 18:06

i still tuck my 13 year old in. i always end up lying on the bed with him talking and next thing i know an hour has passed. he saves tik toks that he thinks i’d find funny to show me every night. or makes me listen to 90s dance music that he’s ‘discovered’ Grin
