To think Mumsnet isn't any better than Tattle life?

The site claims to be "commentary and critique of people who chose to monetise their lives as a business and release it to the public domain"

From my time on the site I've found it to be just that. Honest, and well measured critique of someone who has chosen to market themselves and/or their families online.

The threads I've seen via Instagramers claiming to be bullied has just been people giving a perfectly reasonable negative opinion on them, or something they have done. Surely if you are putting yourself online to gain followers you accept the good and the bad, and that not everything negative is bullying, still just an opinion?

Mumsnet on the other hand claims to be a resource of support for parents, but I regularly see posters jumped etc usually on a perfectly reasonable post.

AIBU to think Mumsnet isn't any holier?

Possibly an unpopular opinion but I find Tattle less scary and more supportive than Mumsnet.

Plg Same.

I agree too. There are some on there who can be nasty but there are a lot of supportive people too and people do call out those who they think are wrong. On here someone posts and if people don't agree they get piled on and are the worst person in the world.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2021 17:50

Well there's no requirement to be on either, so just choose which online chat forums you want to frequent.

If you are going to hang around purely in AIBU then the view will be skewed though.

DebbieDowner101 · 08/01/2021 17:56

Sparkling but that's my point exactly, why does it have to be skewed just because it's AIBU?

Because AIBU is where everyone posts 'for traffic' it's a joke topic, full of people moaning about petty stuff. Invariably if posters posted in a different topic more specific to their question they would get better replies. But they don't want to do that for some reason. It's all just shoved on here.

I have only looked at Tattle a few times but they wanted me to disable my adblocker and that's not happening!

Nanniss · 08/01/2021 18:04

I had a look at Tattle life once and thought it was a nest of vipers but each to their own.

Macncheeseballs · 08/01/2021 18:05

Never heard of tattle, going to google it now

whitechocolatehobnobs · 08/01/2021 18:06

I find on Tattle you don't get the thing of posters that have been there years thinking they rule the forum and can speak to people like shit under the guise of 'saying it like it is'

PleasantVille · 08/01/2021 18:07

I had a look at Tattle a while ago and it seemed to be full of crazy stalker types with obsessions about SM influencers.

I didnt find it in any way comparable to MN, they are completely different beasts.

LookingforBakedAlaska · 08/01/2021 18:08

I love tattle but only bother with it for a very limited niche set of topics. Everyone I have spoken too on those boards seem lovely and normal and anti the crazy celeb insta culture. I have noticed more insta-mum style comment on here recently, but maybe I’m just getting old...

The site claims to be "commentary and critique of people who chose to monetise their lives as a business and release it to the public domain"

So is this site just for discussing Instagram influencers, or has it, like Mumsnet, evolved beyond its original remit to encompass general topics of discussion?

LookingforBakedAlaska · 08/01/2021 18:10

“To” sorry. It’s been a long week and I’m on the Friday 🍷

RolandSchitt · 08/01/2021 18:10

There are a few eye opening tattle threads. I can't say the name of one person or it seems to invoke their presence. But it was a person I knew I had weird feelings about, and seeing it all put together rmade it clear I wasn't alone.

ginandbearit · 08/01/2021 18:11

Tattle is fun and a bit bitchy but has also shone a searchlight on very dodgy instagram 'bossbabes' in a way mn shies away from ..maybe its not in mn's remit so fair enough but the amount of deleted threads recently ( nurses experiences in hospitals ?) has sent me searching elsewhere...and a very funny Harry and Meghan thread too .

It is mainly a commentary on influencers, although there are general topics too but they’re much less common
SomewhatBored · 08/01/2021 18:14

Thanks OrangeSlices. Not really a like for like, then. I don't use Instagram - I'm not a mum either Grin - but if it hasn't spread its remit like MN probably not one for me.

entrytohr · 08/01/2021 18:20

I love tattle. It's one of those guilty secrets though I think, where you can't admit to being on there as you'll be branded a bully by people who've never ventured over!

Meepmeeep · 08/01/2021 18:22

Both as bad as each other at times. However, Tattle banned me for daring to pull someone up on criticising a 3 year olds looks. To be honest, I’m glad they banned me as I don’t want to be part of a site that condones people doing things like that.

plg21 · 08/01/2021 18:33

It does shine a spotlight into the weird and wonderful world of being an Instagram influencer. With particular reference to the half-truths they post on occasions. Mrs Hinch should probably take a bow for managing to create content for 300 threads.

Quaagars · 08/01/2021 18:37

Lol, you obviously haven't seen the Instagram threads where people have occasionally linked to Tattle - "honest, well measured critique of someone online"
Yeah, right my arse Grin

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 18:40

I think they are completely different sites, so not sure how meaningful a comparison is - there is some nasty and vacuous stuff on Tattle, and people can be aggressive on here - but mostly in AIBU. Overall MN is a whole lot richer and more diverse, if you must compare.

The thing with tattle is you cant remotely disagree with anyone x you cant have a discussion about anything or have a slightly differing view - some of the theories they have on there are verging on needing psychological help !! There are people on there that spend all day on the Instagram of certain people just to find fault in what they do !

whitechocolatehobnobs · 08/01/2021 20:02

@Bigbrowedbetty I've always found it's ok to disagree on there as long as it's done politely and constructively rather than the abruptness that happens on here
