AIBU.. to report my own parents (coronavirus)

Sorry, NC as outing..

They are in a tier 4 area.

I live abroad in a country which has struggled hugely with coronavirus and has put a ban on Brits entering there. I’ve avoided the virus so far with extreme diligence as I work a zero hour contract with no sick pay..

They turned up unannounced on my doorstep.

Whilst I’m pleased to see them, I’m furious that after all our care and sacrifice, they’ll have brought not only the virus but the “British variant” and then when it’s reported in the press it will be patently obvious to the neighbours who is responsible. Also, whilst being not an at risk group, we’ve been really careful to minimize our risk precisely so this nightmare can end sooner and we can visit them safely, in the uk. I’m cross with their arrogance. They won’t even isolate in my home either, they miss shopping and eating out...

So... WIBU to report them?

Yes please do. Now. I expect the country you live in is more responsive than the UK to rule breaking.

I'm disappointed they were allowed to get on a plane or the Eurotunnel, whichever applied.

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 04/01/2021 11:33

How did they come if Brits are banned from entering?

Cheeseandlobster · 04/01/2021 11:35

How did they get in? They have put you on such a difficult situation. Have they always been this selfish? The lack of notice illustrates to me that they knew exactly what they were doing

ApolloandDaphne · 04/01/2021 11:35

It's not great that they have turned up unannounced but it is a massive leap to suggest they have brought the virus in with them. They may have or they may not. The likelihood is that they haven't. How did they travel to you?

Pukkatea · 04/01/2021 11:36

I'd go further and tell them can't stay with you. If they aren't going to isolate anyway, inconvenience them.

Norwayreally · 04/01/2021 11:36

How did they get there if Brits are banned?

MajorMujer · 04/01/2021 11:36

How on earth did they get in ?

Butchyrestingface · 04/01/2021 11:37

They turned up unannounced on my doorstep.

How did they manage this if they're banned from entering the country?

Did they jetski in like that bloke on the Isle of Man?

LEELULUMPKIN · 04/01/2021 11:37

How did they get in then?

TrashCanBird · 04/01/2021 11:37

I'd be furious with them.

Lostinacloud · 04/01/2021 11:37

Sorry but I think you’re being a bit paranoid. Media and governments would have us believe that every person who walks the earth is currently infected with covid but that’s not actually the case and presumably they’ve had to go through several test procedures to get on a plane and be allowed entry into your country.

GarlicSoup · 04/01/2021 11:37

How did they enter the country?

CremeEggThief · 04/01/2021 11:37

Hmmm

vanillandhoney · 04/01/2021 11:38

If Brits are banned from your country, how did you parents get there? Hmm

Calmandmeasured1 · 04/01/2021 11:38

His did they get into your country if Brits are banned? Don't you have passport control at airports?

Have they taken tests so they can prove they haven't brought Covid into the country?

abigailsnan · 04/01/2021 11:39

How irresponsible of them and so arrogant if it wasn't so serious I would have turned them around and sent them back.
You need to report this to the authorities for everyones sake.

buffyp · 04/01/2021 11:39

Hmm bit strange they were able to just turn up if Brits supposedly banned. If you want to completely destroy your relationship with them then go ahead and report. They shouldn’t have just turned up but I find it very sad that this is your first thought.

Tier4ParentProblem · 04/01/2021 11:39

I think they didn’t tell us because they knew we would be unhappy. My Dh is furious so I’m caught between everyone. They just wanted to see the DC.

They got out of the uk with a negative pcr test (thankfully) and then drove for a ridiculously long time over various mountain borders (Schengen!!)

Mrsjayy · 04/01/2021 11:39

Isnt there a travel Ban how did they get to you presumably they are in your shed whilst you report them or organise travel home ?

Calmandmeasured1 · 04/01/2021 11:39

Did they jetski in like that bloke on the Isle of Man
🤣🤣🤣

Lostinacloud · 04/01/2021 11:39

For example, I live in a different country to my parents but if I went today I know that I don’t have coronavirus and in fact already have had it so I believe the chances are even smaller that I would “bring” my dirty germs to their country

Brighterthansunflowers · 04/01/2021 11:40

How did they get there if brits are banned? Hmm

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/01/2021 11:41

What’s the legal response to them rule breaking?

Tier4ParentProblem · 04/01/2021 11:41

Buffy I’m sad too but they didn’t think about how I’d pay my rent if I couldn’t work at all. They’ve told a lot of people what they’ve done so I was hoping they wouldn’t know it was me Blush but I don’t mind admitting I wouldn’t have the guts to do so openly.

I know people are definitely being turned away from flights. My DD had to fly from Scotland to London recently (work related). Someone in front of her was trying to get to France via London was turned away from the flight.
