Christmas Day clothes

This is 1st Christmas with me and DP staying at home, so I suggested we could get pyjamas & chill, but DP wasn't keen on my idea.... which made me wonder - if you stay at home on Christmas Day, do you put on nice clothes and dress up, or stay in PJs?

Yabu= dress up
yanbu= pyjamas

I couldn’t eat dinner in my pyjamas unless I was ill.

Lipz · 04/12/2020 15:28

Always get dressed, makeup and hair done. Whether it's something new or old I don't wear pj's. I find they make me feel like I'm ill and I feel down when wearing them.

Fluffybutter · 04/12/2020 15:30

Neither . I just get dressed in normal clothes.

PurpleDaisies · 04/12/2020 15:30

I don’t like being in pjs all day. I feel a bit scummy.

I’ll be getting dressed but not into anything particularly glamorous. We’ll (weather dependant) be going out for a walk.

katy1213 · 04/12/2020 15:31

Slovenly and depressing. But why do you need to decide three weeks in advance???

DelphineWalsh · 04/12/2020 15:32

Not quite dressed but not quite pjamas.

Comfies like trackies and a hoodie.

WillingWarlock · 04/12/2020 15:33

I wouldn’t want to go all day without a shower, and having a shower and then putting pajamas back on would be weird. Also, I couldn’t go all day without wearing a bra, nobody wants that including me, and if I am wearing a bra I might as well be wearing clothes. However I may well wear leggings with a festive velvet tunic top, which is almost as comfy as pajamas anyway,

icedaisy · 04/12/2020 15:33

I'm sort of in middle.

Up, showered, hair done, comfy top, new fleece pj bottoms, cosy jumper, done.

So not slept in worn pjs, but not dressed up.

I walk like that, but our neighbours are three miles away.

Toilenstripes · 04/12/2020 15:34

Black jeans and a nice jumper. Wearing pyjamas during the day makes me feel awful,

ShowOfHands · 04/12/2020 15:34

My Mum always made new clothes for me for Christmas. Fabric from the market and sewing machine out throughout December. It was one of the only times we got new clothes and I loved dressing up in new clothes after opening my presents. I still do it now but I save something I've made or bought from the charity shop earlier in the year and wear it for the first time on Christmas Day. This year I bought purple cord dungarees from a local place specialising in patchouli and hemp type stuff (I love it there) and I've saved them to wear for the first time on the 25th.

Perhaps Op wants new Christmas ones and time to wash them, rather than pulling out her old baggy nightdress from the back of the cupboard
AryaStarkWolf · 04/12/2020 15:36

I would wear nice new PJ's all day if it were just me and DH for the day

picklemewalnuts · 04/12/2020 15:38

We get new pjs for Christmas Eve, so come down reasonably tidy for breakfast and stockings.
Then we dress for the rest of the day.

Madcats · 04/12/2020 15:39

We always end up going for a walk, so no PJs after a late breakfast.

Christmas "traditions" can divide family opinion (I think it took us about 10 Christmasses to get ours agreed)

JanewaysBun · 04/12/2020 15:39

Fully glam for Christmas day, feels mucj more like a big celebration to me

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/12/2020 15:41

I wouldn't stay in pjs, many because they consist of hot pant shorts and a vest top. Cant sleep in anything else, but I wouldn't be getting dressed properly.

rottiemum88 · 04/12/2020 15:43

Never PJs during the daytime, not even at my sickest. Christmas Day is always full glam whether we're home or with family, it's a special occasion after all.

Jj2431 · 04/12/2020 15:44

Always dress up for xmas day.

PinGwyn · 04/12/2020 15:45

If we were at home I would just do whatever i could be arsed doing on the day tbh.

We used to dress up when I was growing up but it doesn't bother me. I prefer to just go with the flow.

Mommabear20 · 04/12/2020 15:46

We always got dressed up when I was a kid. DH and I usually just wear jeans and a tshirt now but when our DC are older (3-4) we've decided to invite all our parents for Christmas dinner every year so I'll insist on getting a little bit more dressed up, but nothing ott

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/12/2020 15:49

Dressing up is part of what makes it a special celebration.

Calmandmeasured1 · 04/12/2020 15:49

I dress up. I always buy something new to wear. It's just a continuation of what we did at home as kids - always had new clothes for Christmas. I can't imagine wearing pyjamas while cooking or eating. I don't wear them any other time either.

ClashCityRocker · 04/12/2020 15:52

We used to dress for dinner as a kid...mum in a cocktail dress, dad in a dinner jacket, us forced into some monstrosity gifted from santa for this express purpose...

It was rather incongruous in our two bed and a box semi with just them and us kids but did lend a sens of occasion.

Nowadays if I'm at home it's apt to be just normal clothes. If we're going to family I tend to go a bit smarter.

Parker231 · 04/12/2020 15:52

We’re all in PJ’s. Pre Covid days three generations would spend Christmas Day in our favourite PJ’s. It’s lovely and relaxing.

We often have a Pj day at the weekend and don’t dress up at home.

MeringueCloud · 04/12/2020 15:53

What do you actually so when you "chill"? Does it mean watching TV? And can't you do that wearing normal clothes? Personally I prefer to wear daytime clothes in the daytime, but I understand that people have different ideas of what acceptable daytime clothes consists of.
