Christmas Day clothes

This is 1st Christmas with me and DP staying at home, so I suggested we could get pyjamas & chill, but DP wasn't keen on my idea.... which made me wonder - if you stay at home on Christmas Day, do you put on nice clothes and dress up, or stay in PJs?

Yabu= dress up
yanbu= pyjamas

I get dressed, but not dressed up. Sometimes I might wear a nice clean top so I can spill Christmas gravy down it specially. Grin

DeviousLatte · 04/12/2020 17:34

I was genuinely interested to hear (light-hearted way) what people wear. We normally are at PILs for Christmas, so it's dressed up from breakfast.

Whereas generally at home, I do loungewear but DP always wears jeans. For Christmas day, I do have new PJs but after late breakfast I'll probably change for bit more smart gear (also, we'd go out for a walk so can't do that in PJs 😁)

"Clothes, maybe even Christmas jumpers! I'm all for getting them on early by the time Call the Midwife is on but no, we won't be festering in pjs al day. It's Christmas! Surely you can rustle up a bit of energy to get dressed."

Tbh the fact that it's Christmas and I'll just be sitting on the couch eating shit is all the more reason to "fester in PJs".

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 04/12/2020 17:42

I had a lovely festive maternity Christmas outfit sorted but I can't wear it now.

We used to have a party dress and sparkly tights when I was small. I'll wear something clean this year. I might see if I can find my Christmas jumper.

Demitri · 04/12/2020 17:44

We all dress in xmas T-shirt’s. I either wear leggings or a skirt. Dc wear jeans or leggings. I do my hair and makeup though and usually wear tacky elf hat or something. I want to be comfortable but still look nice in pics!

You must be new to MN. Here, on non-working days, we all wake up, take off our night PJs, shower and then put on our nice, freshly-laundered day PJs. That IS dressing up - even though, to the untrained eye, there is no difference between our night PJs and our day PJs at all, except for a few creases and the faintest whiff in the armpits.

As long as you mentally designate specific PJs for a specific time/purpose, that instantly makes them smart, stylish and thoroughly acceptable. I still look back fondly to the day of our nuptials, when we exchanged our vows in front of all of our loved ones whilst wearing our beautiful matching 'his 'n' hers' wedding PJs Grin

Neither, I get dressed in normal clothes.

We have a big Labrador who needs walking, so no pyjamas and definitely nothing too glitzy or dressed up.

RaraRachael · 04/12/2020 17:51

Neither. I couldn't sit in my pyjamas and eat my dinner but there's no point in getting dressed up to eat in my own dining room. I'd wear jeans and a top same as I would any other day.

Kokosrieksts · 04/12/2020 17:53

I find a slow, relaxed morning wearing pyjamas best and then get dressed at noon or so.

Theotherrudolph · 04/12/2020 17:53

Normal comfy trousers and Christmas jumpers all round.

ddl1 · 04/12/2020 18:00

Neither - I would dress in ordinary casual clothes if I wasn't going out or having visitors. Pyjamas are a bit extreme in one direction, and would make me feel as though I was supposed to be ill; and I only dress up for social occasions, not because it's a holiday on the calendar. My close family members are similar, so I don't get pressed on this.

PeskyRooks · 04/12/2020 18:00

@Fluffybutter

Neither . I just get dressed in normal clothes.
Exactly. Came on the thread to say this!
AiryFairyMum · 04/12/2020 18:02

Christmas jumpers here.

nocoolnamesleft · 04/12/2020 18:02

Neither option: ordinary comfy clothes.

Friendshighschool · 04/12/2020 18:03

Leggings or jeggings with a Christmas jumper here. Definitely for comfort. We have a lazy day beyond a walk.

PronkWine · 04/12/2020 18:03

I can't stay in PJs as animals need looking after, the kids often do at the weekend but not for a Christmas. It's cosy jumper day.

santasmincepie · 04/12/2020 18:03

Neither. Jeans and a christmas jumper here

TicTacTwo · 04/12/2020 18:04

Are you going to be taking pics? If so that might be a reason to not just wear pjs

HerselfIndoors · 04/12/2020 18:05

I actually do tend to get dressed, though not very dressed "up". But if it was just me and the kids it would be PJs. I might choose my best or xmassiest pjs but my aim would be to be cosy.

Devillishlypicklypickles · 04/12/2020 18:06

I just wear my usual clothes, I do have a Christmas Jumper but my little house gets really hot, especially when I'm cooking a roast dinner so I don't wear it! I don't see much point in getting dressed up when I'll be cooking either, its only my dad coming round and he wont be dressed up fancy either! I expect the children will spend the day rotating an assortment of dressing-up outifts and whatever new clothes they get for Christmas and by some point later on will probably be running about in their underpants and covered in desserts.

CarryOnWalking · 04/12/2020 18:06

Jeans and a warm jumper here. Dog walking clothes.

I hate wearing PJs in the day. Makes feel like I’m unwell. Also embarrassing if we have to Zoom anyone!

lynsey91 · 04/12/2020 18:06

I don't own any pj's (sleep naked) so will wear jeans and a nice top

Parker231 · 04/12/2020 18:07

We take photos on Christmas Day - wearing PJ’s doesn’t stop that. I love a PJ day - have been so busy recently it’s going to be even better on Christmas Day.
Usually there are 16 staying for Christmas week so going to be odd enough not having everyone with us without changing our PJ traditions.

countrygirl99 · 04/12/2020 18:08

In the morning it will be riding breeches, then when I get home it will be jeans. I don't possess pyjamas.

Rememberallball · 04/12/2020 18:08

Neither, pj’s are for when you’re in bed (and no, I won’t be buying twee matching pyjamas for the family to wear Christmas Eve night) and dressing in smart clothes is doe weddings or days out somewhere special.

We’ll wear whatever we’re comfortable in and is clean - and this includes 15 month old DTs
