Christmas Day clothes

This is 1st Christmas with me and DP staying at home, so I suggested we could get pyjamas & chill, but DP wasn't keen on my idea.... which made me wonder - if you stay at home on Christmas Day, do you put on nice clothes and dress up, or stay in PJs?

Yabu= dress up
yanbu= pyjamas

@PragmaticPrinciple

I can't stand 'PJs' as a word. It's so twee. Pyjamas.

But I don't wear them to sleep in anyway.

I don’t say ‘PJs‘, I just sometimes use it when writing as it’s shorter. Not sure about it being twee though. Confused But then I didn’t realise you could fester in PJs either.

Mumsnet ! 🤪

dottiedaisee · 04/12/2020 18:55

Jeggings and Christmas TShirt...get far too hot and bothered cooking ,to wear a Christmas jumper.PJs are for bedtime 🥱

itsgettingweird · 04/12/2020 18:55

If I did this I'd have to shower and out on clean ones in the morning after breakfast!

Personally I wear leggings and an Xmas jumper. Comfy - (stretchy!), Christmassy but also easy.

So have breakfast, presents, shower, dress. Off to parents for lunch and gifts and home again and have to admit I'm in clean oh mamas about 10 minutes after walking through the door again!

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 04/12/2020 18:57

I like to dress up a little but must be stretchy for the big dinner.

Like Joeys Thanksgiving maternity pants? 🤣

hardknocklife123 · 04/12/2020 18:59

Always dress up. Usually new clothes. Surely you can stay in pjs any old weekend.

Changi · 04/12/2020 19:00

I don't stay in PJs because I don't wear PJs. Although, I wouldn't if I did.

Last year I wore a red bikini and a Santa hat.

JaceLancs · 04/12/2020 19:03

Always dress up but also has to be comfortable and allow for a huge Xmas dinner
I find sweater dresses and woolly or opaque tights work for me - no construction round the tum - warm - ok with slippers at home - throw on some boots and ok to go out for walk or visit relatives

EnglishRain · 04/12/2020 19:05

I don't dress up, just wear normal clothes.

As for pjs in the day being scummy, I wear pjs in the daytime a lot lately Blush in my defence I have a four month old who pukes on me a lot, and I've got more pjs than I have clothes that fit comfortably!

Serin · 04/12/2020 19:06

We get dressed up a bit, smart casual new clothes. This year its tight shiny dark grey trousers (slightly shimmery) a cream cashmere jumper and black ankle boots.
The jumper will be swapped for a T shirt when I'm cooking and the boots will no doubt be swapped for flip flops!

ChristmasFluff · 04/12/2020 19:11

The beauty of Christmas is you can do what you want - and whatever you want is fab.

I used to always host Christmas, and the outfits would range from glittery velvet and a tiara (me) to trackie bottoms and onesies (sister and nieces - because they wanted to roll around on the floor with the dogs)

that's the thing about Christmas - you make up your own rules. If you want to wear a tiara and PJs, you do it.

Gatehouse77 · 04/12/2020 19:11

We don't do pyjama days (unless ill) or dress up at home. I wouldn't dress up to go out either but unlikely to ever be going anywhere that needs it.

Comfortable is what we go for. Although, my girls have bought something 'special' to wear which could be smarter or just new - will see soon enough!

hopeishere · 04/12/2020 19:15

We used to go to a drinks party whe we were kids so got dressed up for that.

How we got to my sisters and they are dressed up.

DHs family don't bother but I'll always make an effort. I've a new sweater from The White Company ordered.

CherryPieface · 04/12/2020 19:17

I like to put on a nice dress - but with no waist band!

LuckyAmy1986 · 04/12/2020 19:33

We will probably fester away in PJs until lunchtime, then get changed to go out for a little walk before lunch. Then come home and fester some more.

FurForksSake · 04/12/2020 20:40

I've bought a new H&M jumper dress, loads of room, but I'll feel nice and warm enough for a walk. Not so christmassy that I can't wear it for work after Christmas.

Wrenna · 04/12/2020 20:47

I don’t dress ‘up’ but I do get dressed.

MrsJBaptiste · 04/12/2020 20:48

I've been getting up most weekends, lo kdown or not so Ill be doing the same on Christmas Day 👗

However the kids will probably be in trakkies and DH will be at work in his high-vis for most of the day so just my making an effort! 😊

MrsJBaptiste · 04/12/2020 20:50

@Changi

Fabulous! DH would love that 😁

The kids not so much 😨

LindaEllen · 04/12/2020 21:18

Same clothes as normal for me. I can't be in my PJs all day, it makes me feel like I'm ill and off school!

Wandafishcake · 04/12/2020 21:20

Neither - I just dress in normal clothes! Jeans and a Christmas jumper probably!

FluffyRabbitGal · 04/12/2020 21:37

Before 2 national lockdowns I would have found this idea horrific! Now it sounds amazing! So much so I have bought some Wham inspired PJ’s for Christmas Day!

shinynewapple2020 · 04/12/2020 21:38

Something both Christmassy and comfy eg a Christmas themed jumper dress or tunic with leggings or Christmas jumper and jeans .

Dee1975 · 04/12/2020 22:24

I couldn’t imagine being in PJs all day. I need to have a shower and ‘clothes’ to feel normal!
However- I am thinking I need to make some kind of effort this year in what I wear as I have pretty much lived in jeans / t shirt / hoodie all year.
Not sure what yet .... not sure what fits due to lockdown lbs ... ! But I’ll find something that’s not blue jeans and a hoodie ....!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/12/2020 12:18

Last year I wore a red bikini and a Santa hat.

Tell him he can wear what he likes, any time he likes - he doesn't have to wait until Christmas Day before he can dress up Grin

Redwrecker · 05/12/2020 12:23

Festive and cosy.

Going to my parents and pjs would not be tolerated 😂 we tend to wear slightly smarter than day clothes but usually comfy!

I’ve got a super comfy plisse jumpsuit that feels so comfy but looks nice, with a christmas cardie if i get cold, and its slippers until the dogs go for a walk
