Christmas Day clothes

This is 1st Christmas with me and DP staying at home, so I suggested we could get pyjamas & chill, but DP wasn't keen on my idea.... which made me wonder - if you stay at home on Christmas Day, do you put on nice clothes and dress up, or stay in PJs?

Yabu= dress up
yanbu= pyjamas

Me, my DP and DS travel over to mum's and change into pyjamas when we get there! I can't imagine having to wear tight jeans while trying to stuff my Christmas dinner 😂

Disappointedkoala · 04/12/2020 15:53

Dressed nicely not necessarily dressed up though. I usually pick a dress so no restrictive waistbands!

happymummy12345 · 04/12/2020 15:55

I always try to make an effort on Christmas Day by getting dressed up a bit, usually a nice dress.
I hate pyjamas, I never wear pyjamas, in fact I don't even have any pyjamas.
And the thought of not getting dressed feels wrong. I don't feel like I can do anything until I'm dressed

Ponoka7 · 04/12/2020 15:56

With a new boyfriend I'd dress up, a few years in and I'd buy new nice lounge wear type pjs.

We've done the, whole family in matching charity pjs and it was a nice relaxed day. You can still get a bath, do your hair and makeup.

Ponoka7 · 04/12/2020 15:57

happymummy12345, what do you wear when you first get out of bed etc?

Springersrock · 04/12/2020 15:59

We don’t go full on dressed up and glam, but do make some effort.

I just can’t stay in pyjamas all day. Breakfast and stocking opening are about my limit, then I have to get dressed.

We always had a special Christmas Day outfit when we were growing up, I don’t quite go that far, but Father Christmas usually brings new jeans and top or something to wear on Christmas Day

I’ve got coated black jeans and a fluffy red jumper this year

ivfbeenbusy · 04/12/2020 16:02

Me and the kids have nice new pyjamas for present opening and then we usually wear Christmas jumpers for the day time - DH sometimes joins in if he finds a jumper to his liking 🤣

It used to be a bit of a waste of money for the Xmas jumpers but there are so many Xmas events now (or was) that actually they get worn a lot? Putting up the tree, Xmas jumper day at school and work, Xmas day, Xmas eve, or Boxing Day

kowari · 04/12/2020 16:04

I wear nice normal daytime clothing, jeans with a cashmere or merino jumper. So, good enough for photos but not like I am going to a Christmas party. I iron DS's favorite t-shirts and remind him to wash his hair.

readingismycardio · 04/12/2020 16:06

I walk like that, but our neighbours are three miles away.

I miss the point of the thread, but I'm so jealous @icedaisy

I always dress up, but not too fancy: a comfy dress or jeans and sweater

fruitpastille · 04/12/2020 16:06

I never wear pyjamas in the day time although I like to wear them from around 8pm. For Christmas generally my nicer jeans and a christmassy top. Maybe a skirt and tights. I do my hair and minimal make up. We go for a walk so I need something that's ok with wellies or walking boots. I feel relaxed and comfy but not scruffy. If I was seeing extended family I might dress up a bit more.

CookPassBabtridge · 04/12/2020 16:09

I'll wear Christmas themed clothes, I don't get loads of chances to dress up. Defo in pjs for veging and being a pig in the evening though!

evilharpy · 04/12/2020 16:09

There is not ever a day when I stay in PJs all day. I just couldn't do it. Even if I'm not leaving the house. I'll be in jeans and a Christmas jumper.

Deelish75 · 04/12/2020 16:11

Will wear normal weekend clothes, jeans, jumper/top with trainers but will have hair and make up done.

devildeepbluesea · 04/12/2020 16:11

Usually dress up. I'm completely unable to have a drink in my PJs!

DeciduousPerennial · 04/12/2020 16:12

I put a nice dress, did my hair, and put makeup on on once; I was the only one, I needed someone to do my zip every time I needed the loo, my tights kept rolling down all day, and the nice shoes pinched so I ended up putting on slippers anyway.

I don’t see the point now.

Overtime2019 · 04/12/2020 16:13

Me and my three kids spend all Xmas day in our pjs

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 04/12/2020 16:18

I usually wear something comfy but “dressy” as I’m usually in pjs and it makes me feel less “slobby on the sofa” and more in the party mood.

But it’s Xmas! Wear what you want! If DH wants to dress up and you wear some pjs so what?!

LaceyBetty · 04/12/2020 16:20

We dress up.

vanillandhoney · 04/12/2020 16:21

We get up, dressed and take the dog for a walk. Then it's home to shower and dress - we don't dress "up" but don't wear pyjamas either, just normal clothes.

OhTheTastyNuts · 04/12/2020 16:22

I'd hate to spend all day in my pyjamas! In fact, I don't really own pyjamas. I sleep in vest and knickers and put some yoga pants on between getting up and getting properly dressed.

I don't get dressed up on Christmas day either though - I just wear normal clothes!

Lyricallie · 04/12/2020 16:23

Dress up, hair done and make up on. Usually we have a big party at my mum's with drinking and dancing etc. into the early hours. So I wear essentially a party dress. This year I'll still dress up nicely but sadly no party.

Angel2702 · 04/12/2020 16:23

I couldn’t eat Christmas dinner in pjs. We wear festive clothes but not what I’d consider dressed up.

BuggerationFlavouredCrisps · 04/12/2020 16:24

I’d get dressed in smarter than normal clothes, so not a t shirt and joggers but not fully ‘dressed up’ with make-up or anything.

So more of a middle ground.

I’d only wear PJ’s all day if I was ill. Seems a bit grubby to wear them in the daytime otherwise.

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 04/12/2020 16:24

I'm a scruffy mare 99% of the time and live in PJs and slobwear , but I do make a big effort on Xmas Day..this year I've just taken delivery of a beautiful new Rosa Bloom sequined playsuit and I'll be wearing it with fishnets and heels. Boxing Day I'll be back in my comfies though

OchonAgusOchonO · 04/12/2020 16:24

I really cannot imagine wearing pjs in my in-laws house. Or dh wearing them in my parents' house. And even worse is the thought of seeing my pils in pjsXmas Shock

We get dressed up for dinner, then a walk afterwards in jeans or joggers.
