Christmas Day clothes

This is 1st Christmas with me and DP staying at home, so I suggested we could get pyjamas & chill, but DP wasn't keen on my idea.... which made me wonder - if you stay at home on Christmas Day, do you put on nice clothes and dress up, or stay in PJs?

Yabu= dress up
yanbu= pyjamas

I'm not allowed to wear jeans at work and haven't been for years so I actually can't stand wearing them anymore and don't own any.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 04/12/2020 18:10

Some years l dress up, others l shower and put clean pjs on. Depends on my mood. Do what you want, who cares what DP wants to do.

Bowerbird5 · 04/12/2020 18:10

Always dressed but then I usually go to Mass even if I have been Christmas Eve. I dress up on Christmas Eve but wear something suitable Christmas Day in case I spill oil on it. I would love to dress up a bit and did when we went out one year and the last two years when our sons hosted. If I’m cooking I need to wear something comfortable and it doesn’t matter too much if I spill something or spitting fat gets on it.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 04/12/2020 18:16

I just could spend all that time effort and money on Christmas and then not get dressed out of nightwear!

We do Christmas stockings and breakfast still in nightwear. Get changed for the day before DH and I like a bit of occasion and wear something snazzy. Kids wear Christmas jumpers, nice t shirt and jeans. I love cooking dinner in a red cocktail dress - I feel all Nigella!

CaMePlaitPas · 04/12/2020 18:16

In the past it's always been dressed up, nice dress, make up and hair done. But this year I might do dressy combo loungewear and make up as we will be staying at home!

jay55 · 04/12/2020 18:17

I wear a forgiving jumper dress and leggings most years, warm, cosy, stretchy.

BailarLaBamba · 04/12/2020 18:21

Just normal comfortable clothes. Same as I do every other day.

I also wouldn't get particularly dressed up to go to a relatives house either though.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 04/12/2020 18:22

I usually put some nice loungewear on, the sort that I can walk the dogs in, definitely no dressing up. Kids and partner usually put comfy clothes like joggers on. Once the dogs have had their last walk, PJs are on, nice food, drink and a film.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 04/12/2020 18:25

we won't be festering in pjs al day.

Festering. 🤣🤣🤣 Only on Mumsnet.

Oysterbabe · 04/12/2020 18:28

I've bought a dress to wear. Not a fancy one, it's red with Christmas puddings on.

Autumn101 · 04/12/2020 18:28

Stay in pjs for presents and breakfast and a Buck’s Fizz then we get dressed up late morning - this year I have a full on silver sequin dress and heels. We have a range of Christmas hats and accessories which we all wear to. DH will wear smart shirt and either trousers or jeans, the DC can wear whatever they want - DS1 will be joggers and hoodie and DS2 something random and clashing and colourful!

We’re just at home but I like doing it so each to their own, growing up we always had a fancy ‘Christmas day outfit’ so I’ve just carried on with it

TheRubyRedshoes · 04/12/2020 18:31

Night wear in the day, fully dress up for Xmas Dinner in the PM.DH will wear tux this year

IEat · 04/12/2020 18:34

You wear what you want, they wear what they want.

CardinalCat · 04/12/2020 18:34

Party dress for me. You're a long time dead, and any excuse to get into something beautiful (this year more so than ever.)

mindutopia · 04/12/2020 18:35

I don't even wear pj's to sleep in. No, we just wear normal clothes, which is same as I wear for work, same as the weekend, same as every other day. If we went to someone else's for Christmas, I might wear the slightly nicer jeans.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/12/2020 18:36

Nice bath, clean jeans and a Christmas jumper. I don’t get the whole Christmas Day PJs thing.

MaelyssQ · 04/12/2020 18:36

I will do the pressie opening and breakfast eating in Christmas PJ's then get showered and changed into something comfortable but smart for the rest of the day. I'm not walking the dog in PJ's, not even on Christmas day itself.

nosswith · 04/12/2020 18:38

I would not go out of the house without being dressed and even on the years we went to midnight mass still went out on Christmas Day. Even if we do not go to church we will still go for a walk.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 04/12/2020 18:42

I'd feel like a bit of a lemon "glammed up" to be at home with DH, my kids and my parents but I don't wear pj's either. Just normal comfy clothes.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 04/12/2020 18:46

Surely you can wear PJs even if he doesn’t want to?

PragmaticPrinciple · 04/12/2020 18:47

I can't stand 'PJs' as a word.
It's so twee.
Pyjamas.

But I don't wear them to sleep in anyway.

oneglassandpuzzled · 04/12/2020 18:50

I only wear PJs in the day if I'm ill. This year I'm going to make a point of wearing a skirt and sparkly top. Will probably change after we have our main Christmas meal into trousers and jumper.

BCBG · 04/12/2020 18:52

Jeans and jumper to feed hens and walk dogs - then dress up somewhat for Christmas late lunch with fam... anyone in this house in sleepwear will be in bed, any day of the year..

PontiacBandit · 04/12/2020 18:53

I like to dress up a little but must be stretchy for the big dinner.

Member984815 · 04/12/2020 18:54

Have to dress up, because mil will be here the only time I stayed in PJs for Christmas day was when I was pregnant and not feeling well
