Dh's dancing face...how to get over this?

When DH dances, he pulls this face which I find deeply unattractive.

There. I know you're all going to tell me I'm a cow...but the thing is, it's a face which is almost EXACTLY the same face an ex used to pull when HE danced!

It's so annoying and off-putting for that reason!

The ex was a complete dickhead so I have bad memories attached to it. DH doesn't look like the ex but there's a sort of passing resemblance and this face is SO similar to the one ex did that it's uncanny.

It's a sort of close mouthed smile with half shut eyes.

I HATE it.

He dances AT me with this face and I always shut him down which is awful of me...how can I get over the association? I really want to stop associating this with my ex...

If you get a pole installed in the house, the dance face will make a lot more sense.

Has anyone else just practised this face to try to get an idea of it? I wonder if he is doing it to wind you up. If he is then ignoring it totally should bore him out of it. If he can't help it you could always mimic his face when you're dancing and embarrass him out of it. If he's otherwise a good guy then I would let him off a bit of gurning during a groove and hopefully then you would associate it with him over time rather than your ex.

My ex used to start clapping in time with the beat and try to get people to join in. Because he was a bit of a wanker (I know, I was young and naive!) not many people would ever oblige so he would just be clapping away with intermittent "come on, guys!" arm movements for the duration of a song. I just got full body ick remembering it Grin

I am DYING at the further replies 😂😂😂
OP your DH is a legend to make us all laugh.

I don’t know which posts are funniest: strawberry blancmange face, Kath Beale smashing stuff up, ex wanker come-on-guys jollier-on (I had a similar wanker ex 😁) or the serious posts telling OP to remember what drew her to her sexdanceface hubby. I am howling!!!

My DH last danced at our wedding 18 years ago. So that could be your alternative? I’m not sure which is better

Totally off topic but Caroline Quentin had this weird face she put on for the dance she did in the week she left Strictly - I think it was supposed to be sassy but it was unbelievably ugly. I couldn't watch her after a while - it kind of looked like she had her chin jutting out and her tongue pushed into it. I couldn't watch Pete Sampras for the same reason; something about people operating with a visible or lolling tongue gives me the shivers.

Have you told him he reminds you of your ex? He might want to stop if so. If you called his bluff and made out like it was a positive/whimsical association he'd probably stop immediately from jealousy. It does seem like it's such an aversion though, that he probably knows you hate him.

My DP’s dancing is so bad it makes me laugh. He thinks he looks smooth and attractive. I think he looks like Mr Soft. I tell him often but he can’t seem to stop. Your DH may not be able to stop. Could you become an ‘eyes closed’ dancer? I am 😂

Tell him he looks like the creepy guy who hung about the school disco and it turns you off, so if he wants some he better find a different face. That should stop him.

Me and DH both look like idiots when we dance.
Being able to laugh with - and at - each other is a major reason why we've been together for 24 years.

Can you imagine if a man posted this about a women 😅If this is the worst thing you have to complain about then you have a great relationship.

@Ddot wow so he deserves to be told he’s creepy ie predatory because his wife doesn’t like his dancing face!? That’s actually horrid and ridiculous.

He's your DH just tell him!

I'm on my 2nd husband, if I said to my current hubs "wow! You look just like ex when you pull that face!" that would be enough to make him stop immediately and if it didn't I would add "babes, NOT attracted to you when you do that, you've been warned" then give him a kiss to take the sting out of it.

At least then he will know why you keep blowing him off.

Lawdy this thread has just made me figure it out. I'm single and love a good old kitchen dance in the evening. My dd is a dancer, she didn't get the genes from me unfortunately they skipped me.... But every time she walks into the kitchen she bursts out laughing at what I thought, were my moves. Of course I think I'm rocking it until she walks in. But it must be THE FACE. So I can dance. I just have a funny face doing it. Grin

Might chuck on a Micheal Jackson track to test it out....
