Dh's dancing face...how to get over this?

FortunesFave · 28/11/2020 10:08

When DH dances, he pulls this face which I find deeply unattractive.

There. I know you're all going to tell me I'm a cow...but the thing is, it's a face which is almost EXACTLY the same face an ex used to pull when HE danced!

It's so annoying and off-putting for that reason!

The ex was a complete dickhead so I have bad memories attached to it. DH doesn't look like the ex but there's a sort of passing resemblance and this face is SO similar to the one ex did that it's uncanny.

It's a sort of close mouthed smile with half shut eyes.

I HATE it.

He dances AT me with this face and I always shut him down which is awful of me...how can I get over the association? I really want to stop associating this with my ex...

OP, it's a marvellous thread.

Sounds like a lovely happy relationship you have to dance with (or at!) each other. :))

Xiaoxiong · 28/11/2020 11:12

I understand though. DH plays (among other things) the accordion, and when he gets to a difficult bit he can look like a great dane chewing a wasp.

MarthasGinYard · 28/11/2020 11:14

So it's not so much a spin n grin

A turn and gurn

It's definitely more subtle....

SlopesOff · 28/11/2020 11:15

My ex used to pull his face into the weirdest contortions, lots of gurning and grimacing. I used to pretend I wasn't with him.

pessimistiquerealistique · 28/11/2020 11:16

I was looking for stupid dance faces and this came upGrin bbs.beastieboys.com/archive/index.php/t-72092.html

Dahlietta · 28/11/2020 11:18

Why are you all so interested in how often we're dancing??

Because:

1/. If it happens once a year, the face is no issue. Just try to blot it out. If it happens three times a day, you’re going to have to stop him or divorce him.

2/ Some of us have (thankfully) never seen our husbands dance. We didn’t even dance at our wedding.

Wyntersdiary · 28/11/2020 11:19

honestly everytime he did it i would just look at something else or close my eyes and pretend to be joining in but really i just dont want to look haha

x2boys · 28/11/2020 11:23

I don't think I have ever danced with Dh in the 16 years we have been together well other than messing about in the kitchen when the radio is on ,his singing annoys me though as does his really crap accents 😂, do you think you might have one or two habits that might annoy the hell out of your Dp Op ?

SleepingStandingUp · 28/11/2020 11:24

snog him and then he cant do the face

MsIrrational · 28/11/2020 11:26

I read your post thinking dancing was a euphemism for sex... Blush

Couldn't you casually/lightheartedly say "oh god you look like my ex when you make that face!"

pessimistiquerealistique · 28/11/2020 11:26

Make exactly the same face and see his reaction.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 28/11/2020 11:30
It's the White Man's Overbite!
Oh god. So true. My DH does this Grin. Embarrassing but funny at the same time. I don’t care, I probably look a right twat too.
Jumbogirl · 28/11/2020 11:37

Grin Grin Grin

MrsExpo · 28/11/2020 11:41

Take a picture of him, print it out and stick it on the front of the fridge (or somewhere equally obvious). He might get the idea its not cool .....

pessimistiquerealistique · 28/11/2020 11:44

Thing that he doesn't know he reminds you of your ex when dancing. Didn't he do this face before getting married?

Henio · 28/11/2020 11:45

@IdblowJonSnow

Agree, tell him! It's cute he dances up to you though. Since lockdown, my DH is more likely to grimace at me and 'dance' away from me! Careful what you wish for! Wink
Lol made me laugh 😆
RedToothBrush · 28/11/2020 11:46

Aljaž off strictly has this smirky open mouthed gurn that drives me potty. He doesn't do it all the time, but once you see it you can't unsee how annoying it is.

Taikoo · 28/11/2020 11:49

YANBU.

My ex used to pull a face while he played the drums.
It was a sort of "look at me, aren't I great, I can play the drums" super smug flared nostrils and pouty yet pursed mouth.
I think that he thought he was Stuart Copeland.
It made me want to slit his throat.
I'm only marginally sorry that I didn't kill him.
One of the many reasons why he's an ex.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 28/11/2020 11:49

Just get your '1' paddle out and say, 'Sorry, dahling, I'd love to mark higher but you'll have to improve your face-ography first!'

Dh's dancing face...how to get over this?
Thecobwebsarewinning · 28/11/2020 11:52

Expose yourself to the face. Dance with him every day. Maybe film him and watch his dancing face when he isn’t around. As you do this repeat to yourself ‘this is my husbands face.I love him’. Eventually new neuropathways will develop the and face will become associated with him and your loving mantra rather than your ex.

Ringsender2 · 28/11/2020 12:02

Omg, I hoped for much more from Tom Hardy. As it was, as a Kray he was much more like Alan Partridge. I'm rather disappointed! Cillian Murphy is Grin ha ha

ladybee28 · 28/11/2020 12:03

DP and I dance (fooling around, not seriously) a LOT.

Often if I'm in a sad mood he'll crack out some TERRIBLE moves to make me laugh, or if something funny comes on the radio while we're cooking he'll start a wiggle going...

But I can't say I spend a lot of time when he's dancing looking at his face – I just join in and dance too, and then I'm busy looking wherever I'm looking.

Eye contact while doing the running man feels a bit intense...

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 28/11/2020 12:05

Omg my dads dancing face is horrendous. Its pouty and "sassy". I can't look at him dancing.

Crinkle77 · 28/11/2020 12:05

Judge Rinder's dancing face is just the best m.youtube.com/watch?v=LYJC1_-zc8k

ladybee28 · 28/11/2020 12:06

Expose yourself to the face 😂

I'm picturing OP in a permanent trench coat and flashing her DP earnestly every time he makes the face 😂
