Dh's dancing face...how to get over this?

When DH dances, he pulls this face which I find deeply unattractive.

There. I know you're all going to tell me I'm a cow...but the thing is, it's a face which is almost EXACTLY the same face an ex used to pull when HE danced!

It's so annoying and off-putting for that reason!

The ex was a complete dickhead so I have bad memories attached to it. DH doesn't look like the ex but there's a sort of passing resemblance and this face is SO similar to the one ex did that it's uncanny.

It's a sort of close mouthed smile with half shut eyes.

I HATE it.

He dances AT me with this face and I always shut him down which is awful of me...how can I get over the association? I really want to stop associating this with my ex...

@FortunesFave

Why are you all so interested in how often we're dancing??

Can you not see the relevance of an impromptu dance once a year and perhaps dancing regularly as part of a shared hobby, or even as professional dancers.
The impact on your life would be different ?

I'm trying to picture this face, but am just getting a really strong image of Jon from Garfield...

I would tell him, even if you find it hard. Just say ‘darling I love it when you dance but that face you pull makes you look like my X. Can we have a session where you try different dance faces”.

I’m sure he’ll be fine with that.Grin

Ginger when you put it like that...well it's probably as often as once a week. Just...boogieing on down when we've got some music on.

Pythone that's probably the closest representation yet.

@SmileyClare

Can we know what type of dancing? I think something like the Tango or foxtrot calls for a more serious dancing face than say bopping about at a party.

Yeah. Make him watch Strictly and get him to emulate the shocked/wow/ecstatic/faux serious/gurning pro dancer showbiz faces.

A relative is having a passionate affair...I was judgy..... But he showed me a vid of ''Why'' he loves the OW so much..

It showed her cooking in his new place, breaking off, and dancing over to him every few seconds in a seductive way.

I said ''Booze? Cocaine?
He replied ''Stone cold sober''

She is just full of life, he says {Same age as his wife}

It seems dancing can be very appealing??

We need the playlist, OP.

But to be a bit more helpful, can you say to him that you love dancing with him but he pulls a face that reminds you of your horrible ex and that creeps you out because he's not like him at all, so can he work on his dance face as well as his moves?

Never 'danced' with the narcissistic wobble-walrus apart from weddings etc. However, the fucking face he pulled when plucking his guitar was akin to a bulldog being castrated.
New DH dances like a dream, well, it's one of my criterion for selecting men, as a good dancer is a good lover. Gavel.

Smiley I think it's an affectation because he feels self conscious

^ this.

Wtf is it with men who feel self-conscious when dancing. Mine does embarrassingly ridiculous 'jokey' actions to the songs 😬 and looks at me whilst doing them, trying to draw me into his 'oh so funny humour'.

No. Just stop. Now. It's not funny. Or endearing. It smacks of a drunken works' xmas party.

Who else keeps trying out the face every time there's a description of it?

I've even done a little hunched shoulders dance at one point..

I could think up my own and sort of do it when he starts up....or reflect his face back at him...

Can you move in to dance cheek to cheek when he starts dancing. Go for the smooch then you don't have to look!

OP, you need to join in so that he changes his expression, either start singing the lyrics so that he maybe joins in, or get up and dance with him, give him a kiss - jokingly say "your face looks weird" - less hurtful maybe if you joke about it.

I can so relate.

DH is a musician and he has a face when he's playing. I could slap him.
