Dh's dancing face...how to get over this?

When DH dances, he pulls this face which I find deeply unattractive.

There. I know you're all going to tell me I'm a cow...but the thing is, it's a face which is almost EXACTLY the same face an ex used to pull when HE danced!

It's so annoying and off-putting for that reason!

The ex was a complete dickhead so I have bad memories attached to it. DH doesn't look like the ex but there's a sort of passing resemblance and this face is SO similar to the one ex did that it's uncanny.

It's a sort of close mouthed smile with half shut eyes.

I HATE it.

He dances AT me with this face and I always shut him down which is awful of me...how can I get over the association? I really want to stop associating this with my ex...

My mum has a dancing face Grin sort of an open mouth/ receding chin. A bit like Hyacinth Bucket.

"Aaagh, Kevin! When you do that face you really remind me of Wayne. Stop it! Please!!"

You clearly have a type if you picked someone new who looks like your ex so deep down you like this dancing face, admit it.

I totally get it.

DH has a similar face whenever he's listening to music that he's kind of dancing along to, and he sort of hunches his shoulders and sways along.

Impossible to describe but he looks like a middle-aged man trying to recapture some teenage thing that in his head looks really cool but just isn't.

Just tell him!

@FortunesFave

Why are you all so interested in how often we're dancing??

ha ha ha

because it sounds like it is such a regular thing that you are making a deal about the Facial expression

close your eyes op

Martha No it's not a lip bite...it's a wide smile but mouth completely shut. Eyes are half shut...I can see his eyes...but the lids are low. More like what Lido posted but with eyes visible.

Why do you think he does it Op?
a) he takes himself very seriously and thinks he's looking cool as fuck (offputting) or

b) he's feeling awkward and self conscious and wishing the ground would swallow him up (slightly more endearing)

I have a horrible suspicion that my dancing face is a sort of female Mick Jagger.. In my head I'm Beyonce.

Make him wear his mask if he feels a dance coming on!

I'll rephrase: just tell him?

I don't think I CAN tell him. He's very sensitive. I want to recondition myself so I don't think of the wanker ex when poor DH dances!

Rishi I have several types to be honest. If I were to list all the men I find attractive, there's a big variation.

Matt Dillon
Cillian Murphy
Tom Hardy
Kevin Bacon
Jason Momoa

Are they a type?

@IdblowJonSnow

Agree, tell him!
It's cute he dances up to you though.
Since lockdown, my DH is more likely to grimace at me and 'dance' away from me!
Careful what you wish for! Wink

This ! Thanks for the laugh 😂

Smiley I think it's an affectation because he feels self conscious but would like to be more fun and expressive. I think I should encourage him to dance MORE often...then he might relax a bit and stop the bloody face!

@Skipsurvey

give him some shades

Aviator shades, and a white suit. And platform shoes.

Can we know what type of dancing? I think something like the Tango or foxtrot calls for a more serious dancing face than say bopping about at a party.

Report
FortunesFave · 28/11/2020 10:59

Skip I could...just ram a pair of shades on him when he starts...or say

"Here DH, put this mask on...I think it looks great when you dance in a mask."
