To ask “what is the conspiracy?”

I have seen many times on social media, over the past week, people saying there is something else going on and the Covid rules are for a different reason entirely.
I just wondered if anyone truly believes the government have a different agenda for extending lockdown??

Take your pick....

The big one (still going on?) was it was being spread by Mobile 5G masts (no idea why 4G masts are not spreading it?). As it is a virus, this kind of ignores basic, fundamental science (and reality).

Other versions are this is preparation for a "1 world government" (very big in the US I hear). The idea is that this is all about making us follow the rules unquestioningly.

As an additional one to the above, there is one that when we are all so worried about Covid-19, "they" will provide a "vaccine" that will (in reality) be a microchip that allows them to track us, and possibly control us. This latter one is very popular in the US as well, as it ties into some fundamentalist "end of days" Christians who believe that "chips" will be implanted into us all to control us.

Then of course, there is the "big pharma" one, about how this is all invented, JUST so that "big pharma" can ride to the rescue and make millions/billions/trillions etc.

Finally, there is the "this is all a hoax to scupper Trump's election/frustrate Brexit/stop Bolton winning the Champions' League"" (etc. - take your pick on whatever you would like to see blocked).

The issue I suspect is that while people have always had some... err... dubious... theories, until the days of the internet, they were not self-re-enforcing. Nowadays, you can go online, find a group (somewhere in the world) who agrees with your theory du jour, and it "proves" that only the people who "do their own research" (i.e. watch a video on youtube) actually know what's going on.

Strange days indeed....

lazylinguist · 27/11/2020 11:23

No. People are idiots. Let's be clear - it's not that I think the government is a bunch of benign and wonderful human beings who only have our best interests at heart. But the twaddle about 5G masts and secret plots is... well... twaddle.

PrettyLittleBrownEyedMe · 27/11/2020 14:35

All of the above-mentioned things are clearly twaddle, as PPs have said, and I'm quite certain that there was no underlying conspiracy before all this started to happen (during the Wuhan stage). But I can't help but start to feel that there are some 'conspiracy' elements to the point we're at now, in that the government are so deep into the pandemic narrative that they can't row back on it without losing face and looking even more catastrophically incompetent than they already do. So many aspects are unaddressed - such as the false positive rates/unreliability of the PCR test (see Portugal court case), the fact that excess deaths are basically unaffected, the fact that only a very small minority of 'cases' appear to be driven from hospitality and yet that is taking such a kicking, the definition of 'cases' including people who are asymptomatic.....so many features which MIGHT (at least) lead to different conclusions being drawn about the nature of the situation.

lazylinguist · 27/11/2020 15:03

Apparently the definition of a conspiracy is: An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.

Tbh almost all government probably regularly do things which could be described as conspiracy.

JimmyTheBrave · 27/11/2020 15:11

Some people think Covid-19 is a 'fake' virus

To ask “what is the conspiracy?”
Cassimin · 27/11/2020 15:16

I’ve heard that the vaccination makes you infertile-
Why give a vaccination that’s going to eliminate humans when if we let the virus infect us we will be all dead anyway???
Who makes these things up???

Zilla1 · 27/11/2020 15:16

Don't forget -
research to see/push acceptance of lockdown or W@ h
aliens
demons
facilitate child abduction and murder; and
plot to kill 10/25/50/90 % of population to save the rich from environmental collapse.

I've not seen a Venn diagram to understand which conspiracies might be exclusive.

MysweetAudrina · 27/11/2020 15:24

Well it's all about the great reset isn't it? Close all local businesses, big. Global Corps profit. Vaccinate us with a chip to track us or make us infertile so population is reduced to 500m. All Bill fucking Gates fault.

waltzingparrot · 27/11/2020 15:32

Something to do with The Great Reset - see World Economic Forum.

Brilliant! This explains why they plan on starting vaccinating the people in care homes and the over 80's first then and the fertile under 45's aren't even on the rollout schedule.
SunsetBeetch · 27/11/2020 15:43

I've heard it's all about testing our compliance, to guage what else "they" could make us do...

Hmm
Goosefoot · 27/11/2020 15:50

Some people have some crazy ideas.

But I have heard some more realistic thoughts from people who do have some experience in public health.

One being that there are measures being taken in some places that it's pretty clear don't correspond to what we have learned about how the virus spreads, and which don't seem to have any evidence base. Still closing parks, masks outside, curfews, for example.

One thought I've heard is that many of these kinds of things are about being seen to do something.

Another which seems slightly more conspiracy-ish is about getting people to accept more rules, more centralisation of power, etc. And I'd tend to dismiss that idea except there seem to be examples of it in other instances that are real, for example some of the anti-terrorism rules that came in in the US after 9/11 - looking back we now know that there had been people hoping to bring in some of those things before and it served as an excuse to get the public to accept those intrusive measures.

A related one is the desire to centralise authority in some instances, there seems to be some of that in the wind in my country where there has been a tendency for some years to take power from regions and put it in the central government, and this could help that along. And also it's being used as an excuse in my region to avoid the legislature sitting - when the next sitting begins there is a stated intent to ask to prorogue immediately and some feel that's at least in part in hopes of setting a precedent.

I don't find it easy to dismiss these kinds of worries.

thepeopleversuswork · 27/11/2020 15:56

My personal view is that not many so called "conspiracy theorists" genuinely believe in these theories.

My theory is the vast majority of them are a) damaged people who are used to seeing the world through a paranoid lens and feel more comfortable seeing things in that way b) thick people who've half read something stupid on the internet and think it makes them sound more intelligent or c) show-offs who think being "alternative" and anti-mainstream makes them more attractive.

I would be prepared to bet good money that most of the people who profess to being "anti-vaxx" would actually quite happily take the vaccine but would still continue banging on at the pub about Bill Gates and his microchipping conspiracies if they thought they were more likely to get laid as a result.

MillieEpple · 27/11/2020 15:59

I dont believe in any deliberate conspiracy but i also think individual government can and will do things like use external events to get support for things they wanted to do anyway, particular around power.
There is also that 'good day to bury bad news' thing where it is easy to distract us from some issues by focusing us on other issues.

loulou0987 · 27/11/2020 16:11

Wow! I haven’t heard half of these! The best one I did hear in March was that they needed to change the batteries in the birds!

Chocoqueen · 27/11/2020 16:27

There's also one which says covid was invented so that world governments could implement a lockdown, meaning everyone is safely at home, therefore reducing the panic when an asteroid hits. 🤨

SlopesOff · 27/11/2020 16:29

My neighbour has been told that the Chinese started the virus so they could take over the world.

(I think it might take them a long time though).

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of that on Twitter for them it tied in with the number of the beast.

“so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.”

They believe this implies something will be needed to travel or trade e.g you can’t have freedoms without a vaccine. I’ve also seen variations on vaccine, with some saying it’s a wrist band, freedom pass or even an app on a phone.

🙈

I’ve always thought pigeons were a bit robotic 😂😂😂

Hawkins001 · 27/11/2020 19:08

How many of you have seen episodes of spook's, how many have watched James bond films, how many have seen alias episodes, how many have seen the series called the agency, how many have seen episodes of covert affairs ?

Sometimes situations are a pickle and just like in those episodes as in real life, there's the good side and the dark side, and I'm guessing sometimes the dark side has victories and hopefully more often than not, the good side is successful, however if the dark side pulls of there mission of x then do you think the good side would give them credit for the X situation, while at the same time trying to save the world or contain the X situation ??

feellikeanalien · 27/11/2020 19:30

No you're all wrong!!There is also the theory, similar to the asteroid theory mentioned above, that, at the beginning of 2021, we are going to be passed by planet Niburu which comes past every 5000 years (apparently). This is going to cause great devastation with people wanting to escape the parts of the world where the devastation happens. So our extremely clever governments have created the pandemic to lock us all up so we can't go elsewhere. There is going to be a pole shift and the world will change dramatically.

There are loads of Youtube videos purporting to show evidence of the planet approaching!

How our useless government are managing to keep this secret is quite amazing. This was supposed to have happened a few years ago but the date keeps getting put back for some reason.Grin

They said this about 2012! 😂

Illiterate fools spouting utter rubbish.

Definitely a certain type of person that believes the nonsense.

Haffiana · 27/11/2020 20:13

People who believe this stuff claim they have an 'open mind' (there will be a few along in a moment on this thread saying the same).

It is perfectly true - their minds are indeed wide open. Nothing in there at all.
