Okay, so my favourite thread in a long time has vanished and it's left me with feelings of confusion and a yearning to know.........

Do chips belong anywhere in a Chinese takeaway?!

I think they do and would argue that they don't just belong - they MAKE a Chinese takeaway. Excuse me! Chips and curry sauce, how can these not be a part of your meal?! Duh!

YABU - Chips don't belong anywhere near my Chinese - What are you crazy?!

YANBU - OMG make mine a double portion and no going easy on that curry sauce!

Salt and pepper chips and curry sauce oh my god yes! My chinese does a meal (snack...) for one which is a massive box of s&p chips and egg fried rice with curry sauce poured over the top... mmm...

WhySoSensitive · 19/11/2020 20:33

We get Chinese every weekend. If it doesn’t come with chips, it’s a sad affair.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/11/2020 20:37

It's a little known fact that, much like Chicken Tika Massala and Wiff Waff, Chinese food was actually invented in the UK and then exported over to China.

Until British dishes like sweet and sour pork became popular in the 60s the Chinese national dish was spagetti bolognese. As pasta became less popular in China (because of the immense success of Chinese food there) the Italians claimed it.

Chips were invented about 100 years before the potato arrived in europe but the traditional deep fried wooden ones were never all that popular.

52andblue · 19/11/2020 20:37

Never have I never had chips from a Chinese food take away.

1FootInTheRave · 19/11/2020 20:38

Salt n pepper chips are the law here.

diamondpony80 · 19/11/2020 20:40

We never get a Chinese without chips. Chips with curry sauce are the best part!

Chimbleys · 19/11/2020 20:43

Chinese chips are different and in my opinion better than other chips so they're totally legit.

CMOTDibbler · 19/11/2020 20:44

@nancybotwinbloom I've just checked the menu for our one, very manky, chinese in the town and no salt and pepper chips. I'll have to wait until we can go and eat out somewhere as its too far to get takeaway

thelegohooverer · 19/11/2020 20:45

I’m confused how I should vote; the chips need to be drenched in satay sauce.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2020 20:45

I often get chips with Indian food too, Dd insisted when she lived here and the habit has stuck.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 19/11/2020 20:47

Chips with Indian food

Mmm not so sure about that

howtobe · 19/11/2020 20:48

@Takemetothebar

You’re doing the chips wrong Grin

Toiletrollbuyer · 19/11/2020 20:50

Chinese for us is always Singapore noddles and crispy chilli beef for me and DP to share, then chicken chow menu for DD12 to demolish. Now I want to add salt and chilli chips to that 😂

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/11/2020 20:50

YABU

I wouldn't dream of asking for chips with my Chinese.

KrisKringlesLeftNostril · 19/11/2020 20:51

It's personal preference, YANBU, although I wouldn't get it myself because the chips in every Chinese I have ever been in are rank!

ladybee28 · 19/11/2020 20:51

Yanbu

Chinese chips are the best. They're very different and far superior to chippy chips. They're like little pillows of saucy goodness........I always leave a small bowl to soak up whatever sauce I'm having 🤤

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 19/11/2020 20:54

I wouldn't buy them but that's because chinese chips are not as good as chippy chips so if I have chinese I'd rather have other things.

popsydoodle4444 · 19/11/2020 20:55

LOL I know which thread your talking about. If I was her I would have shoved his chips up his arse as I was drop kicking the CF out of the front door.

That aside we had had a local Chinese that had been there for about 20 years shut down last year;I was disappointed as they did the most wonderful chilli chips, fresh onions, chilli and peppers cooked with chips, garlic, chilli flakes and ground pepper;god I could eat a portion right now

Buttercream22 · 19/11/2020 20:56

Yes....100% yes!!! I will not order a Chinese without them! Lol

Ontheboardwalk · 19/11/2020 20:57

Nope chips do not belong in a Chinese takeaway. With Indian takeaway yes, Chinese no

Although the thread earlier did make me go out and get Chinese takeaway for my tea. I went for classic sweet and sour pork with rice!

DoubleNegativePanda · 19/11/2020 20:58

I don't understand eating chips with Chinese, but then I also don't think chips belong with pizza.

I do love chips, I just don't think they go together.

NuniaBeeswax · 19/11/2020 20:58

"Chips and gravy is disgusting."

Imagine being this wrong about something.

GeidiPrimes · 19/11/2020 20:58

Years ago I was waiting staff in a Chinese restaurant. A man became enraged one time, because there were no baked beans on the menu. He seemed to take it personally for some reason.

InOtterNews · 19/11/2020 20:58

Chips with a Chinese? You're all nuts and YABVU
