Okay, so my favourite thread in a long time has vanished and it's left me with feelings of confusion and a yearning to know.........

Do chips belong anywhere in a Chinese takeaway?!

I think they do and would argue that they don't just belong - they MAKE a Chinese takeaway. Excuse me! Chips and curry sauce, how can these not be a part of your meal?! Duh!

YABU - Chips don't belong anywhere near my Chinese - What are you crazy?!

YANBU - OMG make mine a double portion and no going easy on that curry sauce!

tiredofthisbsagain · 19/11/2020 20:59

"Chips and gravy is disgusting."

Imagine being this wrong about something.

Agree.

Hell to the yes!

I’d never order chips in a Chinese restaurant but they’ve got to be done with a takeaway. Our Chinese does the best chips ever. Fat, crispy and really salty. They are lush with some sweet and sour sauce. My five year old likes to mix her sweet and sour with Chinese curry sauce and dip her chips in that. Vomit-inducing IMO, but each to their own.

Mrsjayy · 19/11/2020 21:02

If we are having take away we. Order chips and rice to go with whatever if we go out for Chinese I won't show myself up as commonGrin

PocahontasMcGinty · 19/11/2020 21:03

I'm Glaswegian....we have chips with EVERYTHING

Chinese, Indian, Pasta, Pizza. Any takeaway always with a side portion of chips.

Always chips Smile

Equimum · 19/11/2020 21:27

YABU - chips and curry sauce come from the chippy, and Chinese comes with fried rice or noodles.

Popcornismandatory · 19/11/2020 21:32

Adult DD doesn't like Chinese food but loves their seasoned chips with onions and pineapple fritters so YES chips with Chinese food is delicious 😋

AriesTheRam · 19/11/2020 21:34

BorderlineHappy · 19/11/2020 21:39

@IHaveBrilloHair Damn you,damn you to hell😂
I'm seriously considering ordering one now.

Doggybiccys · 19/11/2020 21:41

@newyeardelurker

YABU. Chips with curry sauce - which are fab - come from the chippie, not the Chinese takeaway. Smile
This!!! Only my DH also puts vinegar on too which is rank.
AnnieKenneyfanclub · 19/11/2020 21:43

YABU for even suggesting this because now this is all I want!

Twobrews · 19/11/2020 21:44

The only Chinese takeaway I'll eat is fried rice, curry sauce and chips. Ours does it together in a tray for £2:50.

Crispsginchoc · 19/11/2020 21:48

I’m not a fan of Chinese. I prefer Indian or Thai, Indian is my fave. If I go for a Chinese it’s for 1/2 and 1/2. Egg fried rice, a portion (1/2) of chips and a large curry sauce, so the chips and rice are practically swimming.
I’ve not had this for over a year and am craving it now!

formerbabe · 19/11/2020 21:59

Wouldn't occur to me to order chips with a Chinese...really doesn't go imo

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2020 22:03

Salt and chilli Chips, noodles and veg spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce to pour over or dip in is bloody lovely at home sometimes but if I am paying lots to eat in the restaurant then I don’t want chips I want decent Chinese food cooked by a professional who cares about what they produce.

As far as I am concerned neither is wrong they are completely different, I can have both at different times and not feel like I’m betraying the other.

My local restaurant does for example exceptionally lovely food, the owner and her husband (the chef) really care about the food they produce and have spent years building a restaurant and a menu and building a menu they feel they can be proud of, the rest of the team who work there are just as good. it’s a real treat going out to eat there so I wouldn’t waste it on food I could do at home chips etc but sometimes I just want food that I know isn’t healthy but tastes great and I can eat it in front of the tv on a Saturday night and feels like something I wouldn’t normally choose and chips noodles and s&s sauce fills that beautifully.
