Okay, so my favourite thread in a long time has vanished and it's left me with feelings of confusion and a yearning to know.........

Do chips belong anywhere in a Chinese takeaway?!

I think they do and would argue that they don't just belong - they MAKE a Chinese takeaway. Excuse me! Chips and curry sauce, how can these not be a part of your meal?! Duh!

YABU - Chips don't belong anywhere near my Chinese - What are you crazy?!

YANBU - OMG make mine a double portion and no going easy on that curry sauce!

You can also get the snack box which is also called 4in1 or 5in1 with chicken or mushrooms but it's great with bean sprouts on too!

Fried rice, curry sauce and chips was my treat to myself on Fridays after a gruelling week at work and single-parenting a 2 year old and a 6 year old. An excess of carbs but tasty as hell.

Looking forward to coming back to the UK from China next summer so I can enjoy it once more!

You should try and make it a thing in China Lolli.

A fish and chip shop not too far from me has opened a restaurant in China after finding they were serving busloads of Chinese tourists who loved their English fish and chips.

No fried rice unfortunately, but you'd definitely get chips and curry sauce and the fish and chip shop curry sauce round here is quite similar to Chinese takeaway curry sauce (the instant kind with lots of MSG Grin).

If we are getting with the kids or with my parents (which is most of the time) we always get chips. However it's it is just my DH and I we usually don't. I like them though but it's not a definite staple.

I find the chips from a Chinese takeaway are not as nice as ones from a chip shop so I don't have them. A Chinese friend once told me the Chinese don't know how to cook chips.

I was spun out when having an Indian curry in a restaurant with friends when I was in my early 30's, someone ordered chips with their curry and rice - half and half. Up until that point I never knew you could order chips and could only have rice.

birkenstocks4ever · 22/11/2020 12:31

Off the back of this thread I ordered chilli salt chips with my chinese beef & onions on Friday and it was lovely so thank you!

shinynewapple2020 · 22/11/2020 12:34

I'm honestly not keen on most food from a Chinese takeaway . I don't eat meat, the king prawns tend to be rubbery and I don't really like Chinese vegetables.

But I love curry sauce and chips . Even better is a 3 in one tray , egg fried rice , chips and curry sauce .

My order , every time Smile

shinynewapple2020 · 22/11/2020 12:36

Hmmm what are these salt and pepper chips people are talking of! With sweet and sour sauce ? Might give that one a try !

DorothygohometoKansas · 22/11/2020 12:36

Of course chips belong with Chinese food! My local Chinese takeaway does the best salt and pepper chips, they’re heaven and no take away from there would be complete without them.

I remember posting about this very question back in 2017, under a different name, as my DH was being an absolute pain about me ordering chips with my Chinese. He’s now ex-DH and my lovely DP doesn’t care at all what I order when getting a takeout. Grin

GooodGolly · 22/11/2020 12:37

We ALWAYS have chips and egg fried rice. I prefer the fried rice but enjoy a few chips too and DH is the opposite
