Chips with Chinese

Okay, so my favourite thread in a long time has vanished and it's left me with feelings of confusion and a yearning to know.........

Do chips belong anywhere in a Chinese takeaway?!

I think they do and would argue that they don't just belong - they MAKE a Chinese takeaway. Excuse me! Chips and curry sauce, how can these not be a part of your meal?! Duh!

YABU - Chips don't belong anywhere near my Chinese - What are you crazy?!

YANBU - OMG make mine a double portion and no going easy on that curry sauce!

I find it a bit too carby because I like noodles with mine, so chips would be as well as, and I wouldn’t have only chips with my Chinese. So it’s not for me.

NuniaBeeswax · 19/11/2020 19:47

Mmmm salt n chilli chips with curry sauce. Quality.

(Chinese munchy boxes pale in comparison to the original munchy boxes from the Indian, however.)

@ILikeTrains

All you people saying to get chips with curry sauce from the chippy - what is wrong with you? Give your taste buds a wobble. (Not sure if you can actually wobble a taste bud) Curry sauce from a fish and chip shop is some weird anaemic version of curry sauce with the consistency of baby poo. In all honesty it doesn't even deserve to have curry in it's name! It should be called greenish cack!
Yeah it’s not great, had it for first time in years during first lockdown and was disappointing. Also was so salty I felt like I needed a drip to rehydrate afterwards.

I think it depends, my local does the most incredible chips ever so we usually get a bag to share. My biggest issue with them is that chips are really filling but there are plenty of more flavoursome things to get from a Chinese takeaway so I don't like filling up on them, and don't buy them from the places that only have okay ones.

OneLinePlease · 19/11/2020 19:50

Yes they absolutely 100% do.

They taste different to other chips.

And I LOVE them.

muddyford · 19/11/2020 19:51

YANBU. Only last night I had chicken chop suey and chips. And a pancake roll, of course.

Titsywoo · 19/11/2020 19:52

No its just weird. People who have both chips and rice should be shot.

Madonnawiththebigboobies · 19/11/2020 19:53

I could just eat a chinese munch box . I shall scour the nation ( when we can travel again )

loutypips · 19/11/2020 19:54

Why are Chinese chips always so good?

Cocomarine · 19/11/2020 19:56

No issue in theory. In practice, I’ve never had good chips from a Chinese takeaway.

Starlitexpress · 19/11/2020 19:56

Chinese curry, rice AND chips if you're from Liverpool or half and half as we like to call it, god I miss Liverpool chippies!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2020 19:57

I love a Chinese buffet too.
I once ate so much I got in that really tired food way and fell asleep on my boyfriend in the restaurant BlushGrin

firesong · 19/11/2020 19:57

Not for me!

FippertyGibbett · 19/11/2020 19:58

OMG you’ve got to have chips !

IndieRo · 19/11/2020 19:58

Oh God yes chips go with Chinese. I particularly like chips with curry sauce and onions... Oh and chicken balls, yum Grin

Crunchymum · 19/11/2020 19:58

Our local Chinese used to be both a fish and chip shop and a Chinese. Same entrance, same seating area but separate counters (often manned by same person Shock)

We never, ever mixed menu's in the few years we lived locally. Even though you could.

So no chips with Chinese for me.

Infinitethings · 19/11/2020 20:01

Everyone I know has chips with Chinese (apart from me.)

CeibaTree · 19/11/2020 20:02

My Chinese meal of choice growing up was sweet and sour pork balls with chips. The takeaway near my parents did the best chips that were basically each a quarter of a potato. So good!

DrDavidBanner · 19/11/2020 20:03

Curry sauce and Chips from the Chinese takeaway are a thing of beauty, Salt and Chilli Chips even better.

Although I wouldn't keep it to myself, such a delicious treat deserves to be shared. Wink

NeonBella · 19/11/2020 20:04

Yes! It's not a proper Chinese without chips.
On the other hand I have a friend who has chips with an Indian takeaway and that's every single type of wrong!

DappledThings · 19/11/2020 20:04

Had never heard of it before I met DH. I was initially aghast (and could feel the judgement of my Chinese grandmother bearing down on me from the beyond) but the idea has somewhat grown on me.

PizzaForOne · 19/11/2020 20:06

People who get chips, sweet and sour chicken balls and plain chow mein as their part of the Chinese takeaway order are just the worst

Deadringer · 19/11/2020 20:06

We usually get chips with the chinese but they are never nice, just bog standard frozen chips and usually soggy. Chippy chips on the other hand are divine.

Newbie1999 · 19/11/2020 20:06

Chips & curry sauce and salt & chilli chicken wings are a MUST on any Chinese takeaway

guffaux · 19/11/2020 20:07

crunchy- was that half-and-half on a nutty grove??
