Chips with Chinese

Okay, so my favourite thread in a long time has vanished and it's left me with feelings of confusion and a yearning to know.........

Do chips belong anywhere in a Chinese takeaway?!

I think they do and would argue that they don't just belong - they MAKE a Chinese takeaway. Excuse me! Chips and curry sauce, how can these not be a part of your meal?! Duh!

YABU - Chips don't belong anywhere near my Chinese - What are you crazy?!

YANBU - OMG make mine a double portion and no going easy on that curry sauce!

Are you in Ireland, OP? Because most Chinese takeaways do chips and curry sauce as a standard dish.

ladymalfoy45 · 19/11/2020 20:11

Salt and chilli chips. Is the ‘coating’ like on salt and chilli wings or ribs?
I love Chinese curry and chips.
My uncle(.5 Chinese) introduced me to MSG. I get it from my Chinese supermarket now.

mycatlovesmenotyou · 19/11/2020 20:14

If I want chips I would go to the fish & chip shop because the Chinese chips don't taste very nice , usually soggy and bland, and if I am going to the Chinese, it is because I want Chinese food......

My dad however, has chips with every Chinese that he orders.

DressingGownofDoom · 19/11/2020 20:14

Oh yes. I like sliced fried beef with mixed vegetables in chilli sauce with chips from my local.

Sickofmysalary · 19/11/2020 20:15

Chips, rice and gravy Grin

J0nah · 19/11/2020 20:17

OMG. Chips and curry sauce from Chinese is THE BEST BIT. When we used to collect, we ate them in the car on the way home. 1 one for him, 2 for me. Lashings of vinegar is mandetory. It's like a starter.
Now they're in the middle of the table (OK next to me). They can have the prawn toast, spring rolls and salt and pepper prawns.
I want Chinese now!

ChronicallyCurious · 19/11/2020 20:17

YANBU. But they have to be salt n pepper

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 20:18

@CMOTDibbler get yourself some salt and pepper chips if they do them by you. If they are done right they will be first o. Your order forever

pipnchops · 19/11/2020 20:20

Absolutely! Chips from the Chinese are better than chip shop chips in my opinion!

Nottherealslimshady · 19/11/2020 20:21

Onion rings and hoisin sauce all the way

frostyfingers · 19/11/2020 20:22

Not quite relevant but I saw our local pub advertising a Chinese Chicken Curry......what on earth is that?!

GameSetMatch · 19/11/2020 20:23

I don’t understand chips from the Chinese but I like chips and curry sauce from the chippy!

Ginfordinner · 19/11/2020 20:23

I opened this thread thinking that chips with a Chinese meal was wrong, but I am now intrigued to try chips from our Chinese takeaway. We have loads of fish and chip chops in the area, and TBH I can't get excited about chips from any of them as they are always soggy.

I now have to try some Chinese chips.

BiBabbles · 19/11/2020 20:25

They can be lovely. Not my preferred order - I tend to get the chicken noodle soup as it's the closest to the kind I was raised with plus spring rolls or other sides - but I tend to get a few from my kids when they get it.

NuniaBeeswax · 19/11/2020 20:27

"Chinese Chicken Curry......what on earth is that?!"

The kind of chicken curry you'd get from the Chinese, I assume?? (And before anyone points it out, I know that technically "chinese" chicken curry isn't actually Chinese..."

lynsey91 · 19/11/2020 20:28

Never tried it but sounds vile. I don't get chips with anything on except maybe a bit of vinegar.

Chips and gravy is disgusting. Chips and curry sauce equally as disgusting.

Good chips should be crisp outside so why would you pour anything over them to turn them soggy?

KTD27 · 19/11/2020 20:30

Yes OMG my husband thinks I’m crazy but I LOVES them. They’re different, all fat and delicious. I have been known to refuse Chinese if the takeaway in question doesn’t serve chips (not often in fairness...) Grin

gunnernat · 19/11/2020 20:30

Chips with Chinese style gravy (also known as barbecued sauce). Tastes nothing like any other gravy or barbecue sauce I’ve ever had, but is delicious!

Okbye · 19/11/2020 20:30

Absolutely no way I’d ever have chips with a Chinese Shock Something I’ve never understood and will never do!

Although I am half Asian so maybe that’s why I’d never not have rice Grin

Strictlysilly · 19/11/2020 20:31

Salt and chilli chips Grin

DartmoorChef · 19/11/2020 20:31

I come from the northwest. Half chips, half fried rice with curry sauce was a staple from the Chinese chippy when i was a teen. Still love it now.

Iwantacookie · 19/11/2020 20:31

If course chips go with chinese. You got to have something to soak up the sweet and sour sauce

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 20:31

Salt and pepper anything

Pikachubaby · 19/11/2020 20:32

We had this yesterday

Chow mien
Chips with curry sauce
Chicken balls and sweet and sour sauce

Very sophisticated we are Grin

nancybotwinbloom · 19/11/2020 20:32
