To think Camilla should be queen?

Just interested in people's views. The whole Charles/Diana/Camilla thing was grim but it's also grim that she's the one treated as responsible rather than him. All water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

(Obviously some people would get rid of the lot of them, and fair enough.)

Never.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 18/11/2020 17:50

I don't believe royalty as a concept should exist, but as things stand the wife of the king is the queen. If we are going to keep this ridiculous system, I don't see how it can be maintained if people cherry pick. Once you start leaving out the bits that some people don't like, the whole thing falls apart and people like me start asking why we have to have any of it.

Hont1986 · 18/11/2020 17:51

Hopefully they just get rid of the whole thing after Elizabeth goes, and we can be rid of having to read or think about them for good.

HotSince63 · 18/11/2020 17:51

I'm pretty sure Camilla doesn't want to be queen and has decided herself that she'll be titled as Princess Consort or some such bollocks.

Gancanny · 18/11/2020 17:52

She would technically be Queen anyway as the wife of a King but I think they're planning to use the title Princess Consort to avoid the issue.

Of course all this could have been avoided if they'd just let Charles marry Camilla in the first place all those years ago, they seem very well suited to one another.

Pacif1cDogwood · 18/11/2020 17:53

Would she not only 'qualify' to be King Consort? Just how Prince Philip is not King?

#NotARoyalist #NotBritish

I don't really have strong feelings, either way, but did have to remind myself when watching The Crown that it was not a documentary! Grin

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 18/11/2020 17:53

Of course she'll be queen. If Charles outlives his mother he'll be king and will have her as his queen.

I think she's lovely.

Cabinfever10 · 18/11/2020 17:54

When king Edward wanted to marry Wallace Simpson he had to abdicate as she was a divorcee the same rules should apply to Charles and Camelia.
William will be a better king than Charles ever could

Pacif1cDogwood · 18/11/2020 17:55

Ah, Princess Consort - that's the one!

Wotsitsarecheesy · 18/11/2020 17:56

Agree with MrsHunt, she will be Queen by virtue of being married to the king. And actually, I like her a lot - I think she is one of the better royals.

Brian9600 · 18/11/2020 17:57

Absolutely- to clarify, this is what I meant. Should she use the title of Queen rather than Princess Consort when Charles becomes King?

Topseyt · 18/11/2020 17:58

If she wants to be styled as Queen Consort (or whatever it should be) then why not? I can't see why there should be any issues with that, although someone will probably come out with some constitutional/protocol bollocks.

pickledplumjam · 18/11/2020 17:58

I think she should be Queen. They should modernise.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 18/11/2020 17:58

Was the Wallace Simpson thing to do with her religion as well as her divorced status?

Nottherealslimshady · 18/11/2020 17:58

Neither of them should. Their behaviour was repulsive. Cant stand the pair of them.

Pollynextdoor · 18/11/2020 18:00

She seems nice and cheerful enough. I think the queen always looks quite grumpy so not a fan.

passthemustard · 18/11/2020 18:00

As they have been allowed to be married I can't see why she shouldn't be 'Queen'. It's not like she'll keep the crown when Charles dies.
Plus when Charles is king he can do what he wants.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 18/11/2020 18:01

I think she was regarded as rather "fast" as my grandmother would say.

Twice divorced and many lovers - and American.

Pacif1cDogwood · 18/11/2020 18:01

Yes, the monarch is automatically the head of the Church of England, so a catholic monarch is an impossibility.

Gawd, it's all so archaic!!

ShirleyPhallus · 18/11/2020 18:03

The UK has a seriously odd problem with having fetishised Princess Diana’s death. It really is so odd how she’s talked about still now. Even strangers leaving flowers on the anniversary of her death now.

Camilla would be absolutely fine and has definitely gone up in the public’s estimation but still there are those who will punish her for not being Diana

VinylDetective · 18/11/2020 18:05

Of course. Nothing’s changed since 1936.
lyralalala · 18/11/2020 18:06

She will be the Queen, just as she is Princess of Wales just now, it'll just depend on the public mood at the time if she uses the title and is crowned.

I think Charles will want her to be Queen.

flaviaritt · 18/11/2020 18:06

Fine by me. Long live Queen Camilla.

Laiste · 18/11/2020 18:08

They deserve each other. The pair of them together are nothing but a reminder of their shitty dirty behaviour and always will be.

It would do the monarchy a favour if they both just buggered off into obscurity and let William go ahead. Wont happen though.

Skysblue · 18/11/2020 18:10

I wonder if it may just skip a generation, I have no concerns about Camilla, but Prince Charles, while having mainly fine qualities (esp his work for the envirinment and farming) doesn’t have the same leadership/glamour appeal that William does. Not really sure what the point of a Charles reign would be. Assuming William wants it of course. He might beg his dad to help him avoid it as long as possible!

The whole thing badly needs updating anyway. Is ridiculous the queen signing off on Parliament paperwork when she wasn’t even able to stop a clearly illegal prorugation. It’s the queen that prorogues Parliament, so when the courts last yr found it was totally unlawful... For me that demonstrated that there was no longer a point to the monarchy.

I say let them just be happy rich people instead of miserable royal people who spend their lives getting exploited by the tabloids and netflix.

I mean, can you imagine if the worst chapter of your life, including your mum’s death, was fictionalised and put on tv for the world to laugh about while the makers rake in the cash? Forget that. I know the Crown is popular and blah but I think it’s in very bad taste that it was made while Diana’s children are alive. I don’t want to watch something so exploitative.
