I can't stand ASMR

I'm amazed by how popular these ASMR videos have become on Youtube.

I find them irritating, and sometimes even creepy if they involve whispering. I hate all the fiddling, fidgeting, chewing etc. So horrible.

If you don’t experience ASMR then you can’t possibly understand it.

If you think you may experience ASMR then maybe you just haven’t found your trigger yet.

None of the videos you describe would do anything for me, but watching massage ASMR blows my mind.

Remember, no-one is forcing you to watch them!

jennie0412 · 13/11/2020 16:35

Okay? Confused

wizzywig · 13/11/2020 16:35

Agree, it's stupid twatty nonsense. Up there with Ellie Goulding songs

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 13/11/2020 16:37

If you can't stand it then it's not ASMR. Honest. It's like saying you can't stand orgasms.

Lucy830 · 13/11/2020 16:38

Can’t stand the hair brushing, whispering l, funny noises etc.

I do however, watch ASMR chair massage. Always fall straight to sleep.

Exactly!

If I had to choose between only ever having orgasms again, or only ever feeling ASMR again, I really don’t know which I would choose!

BrumBoo · 13/11/2020 16:49

I agree, in fact it makes me feel ill. I used to wonder why Lurpak adverts made me nauseous, it's the same shit. People get weirdly defensive about it though Hmm.

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 16:52

Any of the ASMR vids i have seen have made me full on angry and extremely irritated. The whispers, the hair brushing, the humming, the weird wet massage sounds bleughhhhh. I like watching hair videos but have to turn the sound off.

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 16:53

Also not to offend anyone but some of them particularly ones with young women whispering feel totally perverted and weird to me.

Feministicon · 13/11/2020 16:54

I hate all of them too, YANBU

TheMostHappy · 13/11/2020 16:55

Is ASMR like the polar opposite to misophonia? I can't stand the sound of any sort of mastication whatsoever so this would drive me to the edge!!

BrumBoo · 13/11/2020 16:55

The whispering is fucking annoying. Every Wooorrddd 'Quiet Annd Breathyyyyy^. Talk like a normal fucking person or not at all Angry.
Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2020 16:56

I don't like the stroking hair whispery stuff. However I have found one I love. She's an American lady who goes into Dollar Tree (or other stores) and straightens up the shelves. Sounds terrible doesn't it? But it's so relaxing to watch and her voice is the best, if I can't sleep I watch some.

ASMR is very easily avoided though if it's not your thing don't go looking for it!

museumum · 13/11/2020 16:56

The whisper ones do give me tingles but in a bad way - like the feeling people mean when they talk about nails on blackboards (although that doesn’t bother me much).

OneTC · 13/11/2020 16:56

I watch a guy who makes kitchen knives in his kitchen, there's no whispering or slurping, it's amazing. I can watch it for hours

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 16:57

Absolutely weird breathy tones. Maybe one persons ASMR is anothers misophonia because i dont know why asmr vids make me so ragey otherwise.

Juniperandrage · 13/11/2020 16:57

I hate them too. They trigger my sensory overload

MaskingForIt · 13/11/2020 16:57

I hate videos about computer games. So I don’t watch them.

Seriously, if you don’t like them, put your phone down and go read a book or do some crochet or something!

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2020 16:58

Here's Dollar Tree lady-

NeutralJanet · 13/11/2020 16:58

I love the whisper and massage videos. Can't stand the eating ones though. DH doesn't get it at all and is of the "weird as fuck" opinion.

Feministicon · 13/11/2020 16:58

My ASMR is complete silence

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 16:58

Theres one i have seen advertised on youtube as 4 hours of a guy driving on a highway in silence. I havent listened yet but it sounds the least bad out of everything else.

ghostmous3 · 13/11/2020 16:59

I get asmr but the whispering, hair brushing etc aren't my triggers.

I get asmr from watching massages, hair washing or people quietly making stuff. Quote often its videos that arent supposed to be asmr..so it's more natural.

I just find whispering in general bloody irritating!

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2020 17:00

It's a weird thing to not be able to stand. I can't stand Sci Fi so I don't seek it out or watch it. Very easy.

Unhelpful. ASMR has crept into pop culture so it makes sense we have looked it up and formed a negative opinion on something everyone else seems to love.
