I can't stand ASMR

I'm amazed by how popular these ASMR videos have become on Youtube.

I find them irritating, and sometimes even creepy if they involve whispering. I hate all the fiddling, fidgeting, chewing etc. So horrible.

I find the whispering thing really creepy too.

amusedbush · 13/11/2020 18:46

I don’t like any whispering/chewing ones but I can watch haircutting videos for hours. There is one guy (a barber in Turkey, I think) who doesn’t talk but he has microphones on his wrists and the ‘schhht schhht’ of the scissors cutting hair is so soothing.

I also watch Bob Ross every night when I’m in bed. The quiet voice (not whispering!) and the sound of the paintbrushes on the canvas send me right off to sleep.

fuckrightoff · 13/11/2020 18:53

I used to watch reflexology videos for hours they give me the tingles

Am I the only one who gets, erm...rude tingles, then? I can't watch any without feeling like a massive pervert. I want the relaxing feeling everyone else talks about!

emilyfrost · 13/11/2020 18:56

So just don’t watch them? Confused

Echobelly · 13/11/2020 18:57

I like most of it, but I totally get it will do nothing for some people. Even though I love it mostly, some kinds irritate me - eg ones who add in 'mouth sounds', or who repeat the same word multiple times in a row; I find that jarring. Also noises of touching textured things don't do anything for me. BUT evidently these things really do it for some people, and I can hardly call them weird when I like people describing massages or medical assessments.

@Sparklingbrook Argh I found that clip so stressful! She doesn't straighten things properly, just places them forward Confused My OCD has gone through the roof watching it for a minute!

It varies. I guess it depends how much she wants to do. But I don't suffer from OCD so it all looks ok to me, pulling stuff forward is what shops tend to do to make the shelves look better.

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 19:03

So just don’t watch them?

Thanks for your input. Maybe we can go back in time and bleach the memories out of our brains lest we might discuss them?

Thickhead · 13/11/2020 19:03

@billydilly

Gentle Whispering is a goddess. Her towel folding vids, ahhh....
She really is. I've been watching her videos since she started - she singlehandedly cured my chronic insomnia and helped massively with my anxiety too. I don't really bother with any other ASMRtists.
Kolo · 13/11/2020 19:04

Ok now I'm confused. I thought everyone got the tingles with hair-doing or upper arm stroking. Is that ASMR? Omg love having my hair played with. And not in a sex way. It just makes me shiver.

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 19:06

@amusedbush ok i will agree with you there bob ross is amazing to listen to! Very soothing.

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 19:08

@kolo.my dp loves his hair played with and i love playing with other peoples hair. I can do it for hours and thankfully its dps fave thing. If anyone tried to touch my hair i would probably punch them Grin Blush

Frannyhy · 13/11/2020 19:09

Ear licking...

IheartASMR · 13/11/2020 19:16

@QueenOfPain yes TinglePlay!!
Stay away from Valeriya and Palagea!! I used to like them and Valeriya was quite funny but now they’re just too sexy and all the men in the comments make me feel sick!
I don’t like tapping or eating/mouth sounds but I quite like the personal attention ones where they pretend to to your eyebrows or your make-up.

IheartASMR · 13/11/2020 19:17

@Frannyhy 🤢

He was the original ASMR guru Grin

I bloody love him, he was so wholesome!

Whathappenedtothelego · 13/11/2020 19:22

They make me raging too. Absolute fight or flight, intense, extreme overpowering reaction like nothing else, but not at all in a good way.

Orkneys · 13/11/2020 19:30

It's not everywhere at all. Think you're just bored and want to complain.

Love today asmr and gentle whispering are my go too.

TheBaroucheBox · 13/11/2020 19:34

I'm so glad it's not just me 🙂

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 19:35

This!

Fight or flight with me too. When dp clicks on it when it shows up on youtube i feel so angry and panicky it makes me want to punch him with all my force and smash the tv as well. Its so extreme obviously i never would its just how it makes me feel.

Shaniac · 13/11/2020 19:36

Saying that does anyone get it with colours? The colour pink makes me feel like vomiting.

Wrenna · 13/11/2020 19:36

I don’t listen to anything containing ‘human’ noises, like tapping or chewing...ug! But I’m addicted to the ones with sound effects, ie rain, blizzard, or spooky ones with creaking.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/11/2020 19:40

Heh heh, I don't even know what AMSR is. I'm getting the gist from reading through the thread. What a load of old shite anyone can post on the internet and get a following eh? If I had no self respect I might even give it a go myself.
