I'm sorry if this makes me a grinch, but this will really piss me off.
The clapping for NHS really got on my tits when fireworks and airhorns were going off every week for 10mins and waking my tiny human.
Suppose only bonus if it does go ahead will be thst it will only be for one night

LonelyFromCorona · 02/11/2020 22:52

Thanks but no thanks

Sparklesocks · 02/11/2020 22:54

Sorry but not my thing either!

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 02/11/2020 22:56

Nope, not doing it. I don’t have a bell to ring even if I wanted to

SierraHotel · 02/11/2020 22:56

I would really rather not but dd has somehow heard about it and is adamant we're doing it, so we're probably doing it..unless of course we're busy and accidentally forget 🤔

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 22:58

At least it's not at 8pm this time!

We don't have a bell so it will be "Alexa, ring a bell"

StrawBeretMoose · 02/11/2020 23:01

Oh really? Just checked Facebook and 5 people I know have marked as being "interested". At least I know the kind of people they areHmm

LagunaBubbles · 02/11/2020 23:03

Might have known there would be a thread looking down on this on MN.

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 23:05

@StrawBeretMoose what kind of people are they?

Sparklesocks · 02/11/2020 23:06

@LagunaBubbles it’s not necessarily looking down on something just because it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/11/2020 23:06

It's a no from me. No bell and no inclination.

elQuintoConyo · 02/11/2020 23:06

Christmas here is not as important as Kkbgs' Day on the night of the 5th-6th January, so it'd be a waste of time here.

I'd only do it if we were totally locked up like last time (Spain). Not a chance in hell would I do it otherwise.

Organised fun?

...and I LOVE Xmas!

twobrews · 02/11/2020 23:08

No bell and no inclination.

This would be an excellent username.

LagunaBubbles · 02/11/2020 23:09

Sparklesocks

This is MN. Come on, people are always looking down on something here. At least its a change from Facebook I suppose.

StCharlotte · 02/11/2020 23:10

Probably won't do it - not least because I'm pretty sure we don't have a bell - but I think it's a sweet idea.

JustCallMeGriffin · 02/11/2020 23:10

It's even more ridiculous than the creepy elf!

If this becomes an annual nonsense I'm going to star playing the Imperial March from Star Wars to counterpoint it...very loudly on my oversized speakers which will point out of open windows!

LagunaBubbles · 02/11/2020 23:11

@Sparklesocks

Did you see Strawbermooses post?

WeeM · 02/11/2020 23:12

I think it’s a nice idea for the kids after such a shitty year.

WeeM · 02/11/2020 23:13

That said I hope it’s a one off and does not become an annual thing!

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I'd like it. I really enjoyed the clapping. I live in a fairly anti-social, large village but people still did it and it made me feel soft and squidgy inside. We didn't have OTT fireworks etc though - maybe that might have affected my view on the matter.

BritWifeinUSA · 02/11/2020 23:14

“Help Santa fly his sleigh”? He’s managed it every other year without the need for bloody bells!

We will be at my husband’s sister’s grave. She died on Christmas Eve.

TeeniefaeTroon · 02/11/2020 23:15

Yes we'll be doing it. I think it's a fab idea.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/11/2020 23:15

Well, that will confuse the shit out of people who grew up like me 😂

About 6-6:30 right after Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve my mum snuck to another room, put presents under the tree, opened the window and rung the bell. The bell was Baby Jesus's bell as he was leaving after he left the presents😂

It might bring warm memories of it though😂

Lindy2 · 02/11/2020 23:16

We'll do it. It's just a little bit of harmless fun that the kids will enjoy. I really don't see the problem. If it's not your thing and your children don't want to do it keep your door shut.

I'm not sure "what kind of person " that makes me. Perhaps one that is trying to make what may be a rather flat Christmas a bit more fun for my kids.
