I’ll be at church where the bells are rung every year. Nativity, carols and then Mass at 6:30pm

But we can't be sure of that this year though.
Yes, normally I'd be singing carols out on the green, but I suspect that won't be happening in 2020.

@Lindy2 - love it Grin

Who owns a bell? Me Grin. In the box of percussion stuff from when the dc were younger. But when (adult) ds was confined to bed for a few days a few years ago and jokingly said he needed a bell to "summons" us, I was pretty impressed at how many people did offer him a bell - so some other people must have them too.

StrawBeretMoose · 03/11/2020 00:07
@StrawBeretMoose what kind of people are they?
They are probably the type who are getting the decorations down from the loft very soon and watching Christmas films already and saying how many sleeps it is until Christmas. I know because my sister is one of them.

The bell ringing... for Santa. Who isn’t real

I live next to a carillon- there are bells every fifteen minutes, and then hours of tunes on a Saturday. Last NYE we got about an hour and forty minutes of tunes around midnight!

IAmADNAMA · 03/11/2020 00:15

I don't have a bell as such but a few Christmas decorations with bells on them so we'll just use them. I think it's a lovely idea for the kids.

IAmADNAMA · 03/11/2020 00:16

@Cocomarine

I’m not interested in doing it, and just find it odd.

The NHS clapping... it was a moment every week where I was reminded to pause for thought about keyworkers, and I liked that it was a celebration of actual people.

The bell ringing... for Santa. Who isn’t real. I get that it’s actually “for” children, but I figure most are having a perfectly fine Xmas anyway (even if with less people than some would have) or if they’re having a shit Xmas, ringing a bell isn’t going to make any difference at all.

I’m not the Grinch, I shan’t scowl if I hear people do it. It’s just not something that has engaged me at all.

What do you mean Santa isn't real? I've been lied to my entire life! Sad
AlwaysLatte · 03/11/2020 00:32

We will be at my husband’s sister’s grave. She died on Christmas Eve."

All day and night? Or do you mean kids shouldn't have 2 minutes of cheer because you have a sad anniversary to deal with?

Well, you're nice aren't you?

Pogmella · 03/11/2020 00:53

I’m also not really sure I want DC totally wound up right at bedtime on xmas eve.. Hmm

MoonJelly · 03/11/2020 02:01

I imagine if people don't have bells they'll be able to ring via phones and iPads. But it's not an idea that fills me with any enthusiasm.

Soubriquet · 03/11/2020 02:13

We are doing it

I’ve even ordered these sweet letters as part of it.

Malvarrosa · 03/11/2020 02:14

The bell ringing... for Santa. Who isn’t real.

FFS - can you not at least put a spoiler alert on this? 😇

PhilSwagielka · 03/11/2020 02:25

Only if I can find one and if I make it to my parents’.

MercyBooth · 03/11/2020 02:29

Sorry not in the mood for this. Having been conned and lied to by the powers that be tends to elicit this reaction.

One suggestion i do have for those that are interested is the small bell from a Lindt chocolate reindeer.

Furries · 03/11/2020 02:34

@Lindy2 - I am probably the world’s soppiest cat lover, but your post made me properly laugh. Have now got a mental image of households all across the UK shaking their cats on their doorsteps!

However, mine would be really pissed off - as no collar and therefore no bell 🤣

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/11/2020 02:35

I've played at a brass band festival which takes place in a town with a carillon. Which makes some soulful quiet sections interesting if you time it badly!

I think this is a sweet idea. My DPs have some jingle bells (the type that Velcro round your wrist) from when we were little. I don't think they're the type of thing you get rid of really.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/11/2020 03:19

No bell here either, so I shall put a couple of handfuls of cutlery in the tumble-dryer and open the kitchen door.

Wingedharpy · 03/11/2020 03:39

DH and I will be merrily cavorting down our street in full Morris dancing regalia - it's a family tradition since the 1840's.😉

kleew1 · 03/11/2020 03:43

Im doing it i think my little one will love it and that's what it's all about, just making everything that little bit more magical.

disclaimer, my Christmas stuff goes up on 15th Decrmber

kleew1 · 03/11/2020 03:44

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles actually laughed out loud at your bell

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 03/11/2020 03:54

The only bells we would love too hear would be Santa's Sleighbells!

pralineandketchup · 03/11/2020 04:32

I've got a gong, can I put that outside and use that instead Grin

TinySongstress · 03/11/2020 04:46

It's not for me (39-live alone) but I actually think hearing all the little bells ringing out in the darkness on xmas eve would sound really pretty.
I like it, and I wasn't a 'clapper' either.

lazyfecker · 03/11/2020 05:38

“Help Santa fly his sleigh”? He’s managed it every other year without the need for bloody bells!

It's been a tough year for Santa too. The kids want to help Grin

lazyfecker · 03/11/2020 05:39

@Lindy2

We'll do it. It's just a little bit of harmless fun that the kids will enjoy. I really don't see the problem. If it's not your thing and your children don't want to do it keep your door shut.

I'm not sure "what kind of person " that makes me. Perhaps one that is trying to make what may be a rather flat Christmas a bit more fun for my kids.

I think it's lovely for the kids and I don't even have kids myself,
lazyfecker · 03/11/2020 05:40

@Lindy2

Who owns a bell? Where do you buy one?

I'm planning on using the one from my cat's collar. I will take the collar off the cat first though - I'm not planning on shaking the whole cat. 😂

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
