Oh I've just realised it's worldwide but just for Santa. Well that sucks for all the other gift bearers

MustardMitt · 02/11/2020 23:20

I probably won’t do it but I think it’s quite a nice idea.

Goosefoot · 02/11/2020 23:21

I like Christmas bells but it seems to me this could be a little weird on a household basis.

Mammyloveswine · 02/11/2020 23:22

I think it's lovely

YorkshirePud1 · 02/11/2020 23:23

If my daughter was older then I'd probably do it with her. It's not my cup of tea and I didn't go out clapping for the NHS, but I think kids would love this so why not? I probably would have loved it when I was little and at least it's not an annoying weekly event.

BunnyBoilerRhian · 02/11/2020 23:25

Who owns a bell? Where do you buy one? Amazon?
When else would I use it?

Lindy2 · 02/11/2020 23:28

Who owns a bell? Where do you buy one?

I'm planning on using the one from my cat's collar. I will take the collar off the cat first though - I'm not planning on shaking the whole cat. 😂

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 23:32

Lindy shake the cat 😂

BullBailey · 02/11/2020 23:33

Great sales ploy for bell makers!

Won’t be joining in, done with all this crap, but it’s cute for kids I guess.

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 23:35

"We will be at my husband’s sister’s grave. She died on Christmas Eve."

All day and night? Or do you mean kids shouldn't have 2 minutes of cheer because you have a sad anniversary to deal with?

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 23:36

"Great sales ploy for bell makers!"

You're a genius! I missed the boat with masks and sanitiser. Bells, the bells!!!

BullBailey · 02/11/2020 23:39

What a pointlessly nasty response?

The poster didn’t say no one else should do it, just what they would be doing instead.

Bowerbird5 · 02/11/2020 23:43

I’ll be at church where the bells are rung every year. Nativity, carols and then Mass at 6:30pm.

Malvarrosa · 02/11/2020 23:46

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
The old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Peace on Earth and good will to men (and women, and children) .

Not sure most people have a bell handy these days, but isn’t it calling back to an old English tradition?

myhobbyisouting · 02/11/2020 23:50

"The poster didn’t say no one else should do it, just what they would be doing instead."

Fair enough. I read it as being a pointless and nasty response to have a dig at how pathetic and thoughtless these people are ringing their bells. But they'll clarify that I'm wrong now I'm sure

Quaagars · 02/11/2020 23:52

Aw, I think it's a lovely idea, then again I've always loved everything Christmas and not been a complete Grinch Grin
Ring bells or don't ring bells, that's up to you.
When we've got all these crappy restrictions on, such as no pantomimes, concerts,Christmas markets etc, any little thing to spread a bit of Christmas Cheer Grin is good in my book

CherryPavlova · 02/11/2020 23:54

No we’ll track Sleigh progress on NORAD and the only bells will be the church bells for the crib service, if we have one this year.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/11/2020 23:55

Well we have at least one children's tambourine in the house...

Quaagars · 02/11/2020 23:56

I'll have to dig through the now teen's toybox, but we got "Santa Bells" when we visited Santa as a toddler.
Put them out and jingle on Christmas Eve and he'll come Smile
Failing that, just jangle keys or something, all is jingly lol, I'm sure he won't notice or care Grin

Quaagars · 02/11/2020 23:58

No we’ll track Sleigh progress on NORAD

We still do that! Even though kids are now early teens and I still keep tracking even after they've gone to bed to see if he's got any nearer Blush Grin

OwlBeThere · 02/11/2020 23:59

All I can think is my youngest would have been asleep at that time when she was 5/6/7ish (she was an early to bed, early to rise kind of kid: it almost killed me Wink) and I’d have been liable to murder anyone who woke her with bells.

housemdwaswrong · 03/11/2020 00:02

The first thing I thought was migraine. Not for me I don't think. :/

Cocomarine · 03/11/2020 00:03

I’m not interested in doing it, and just find it odd.

The NHS clapping... it was a moment every week where I was reminded to pause for thought about keyworkers, and I liked that it was a celebration of actual people.

The bell ringing... for Santa. Who isn’t real. I get that it’s actually “for” children, but I figure most are having a perfectly fine Xmas anyway (even if with less people than some would have) or if they’re having a shit Xmas, ringing a bell isn’t going to make any difference at all.

I’m not the Grinch, I shan’t scowl if I hear people do it. It’s just not something that has engaged me at all.

Stompythedinosaur · 03/11/2020 00:03

I have no idea how this is meant to be pleasurable for dc. My dc have bells, they can wave them around any time they like. I imagine we'll have more fun doing our usual Christmas stuff on the 24th, we normally decorate a gingerbread house.

KatherineOfGaunt · 03/11/2020 00:05

For some reason, my first thought when I saw the thread title was church bells. I thought it was going to be a thread where a bellringer was moaning that they weren't going to be allowed to ring the church bells inside this year so they were having to do it outside. I spent a moment or two wondering out how you'd get the bells outside...🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
