Have you heard about thus the plan is to ring bells outside at 6pm on Christmas Eve fb.me/e/2ZmVN5A8h

I'd be interested to know who has a random bell lying around anyway.

Tyranttoddler · 03/11/2020 05:51

Bloody hell, this thread 😂 It's only a bit of harmless festive fun

Camomila · 03/11/2020 06:02

I've got a random cow bell in my house (souvernir from Switzerland, I've hidden it from DS1 :) )

tigger1001 · 03/11/2020 06:03

I think it's a lovely idea. Many families traditions on Christmas Eve won't be happening this year, including our own tradition of going to the family church service, so this is just a little thing that might spread some Christmas cheer to the kids.

If you don't want to take part, fine. But seriously the judgement on here over what should be a lovely thing for the kids is quite something!

Scotmummy1216 · 03/11/2020 06:17

Im going to if im not working. Think it will bring a much needed excitement for our wee ones.

JamminDoughnuts · 03/11/2020 06:27

my initial reaction was Blush no way, of course i wont do it, my dc are adults,
however it would be nice to open the door and hear! it would bring tears to my dry eyes

Els1e · 03/11/2020 06:35

I would join in. No kids but I love Christmas. Only got a bicycle bell so that’ll have to do.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 03/11/2020 06:35

We have bells from the cycling but they are going to stay in the cupboard

Grace58 · 03/11/2020 06:52

Gosh there are some grinches on here! My kids will do it and will love it. I’m going to put their bells in their Christmas Eve box (I can almost hear the tuts in admitting we have a box!). It’s been a shit year, I’m all for anything that brings a bit of joy!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 03/11/2020 07:08

@myhobbyisouting

"The poster didn’t say no one else should do it, just what they would be doing instead."

Fair enough. I read it as being a pointless and nasty response to have a dig at how pathetic and thoughtless these people are ringing their bells. But they'll clarify that I'm wrong now I'm sure

I read in the same way as you. The first bit about the 'bloody bells' made the intention quite clear.
Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/11/2020 07:11

Hahah how did I guess it would be a Facebook idea.
Harmless really

Dugsbollox · 03/11/2020 07:24

My kids are the only ones around our street to be about the right age for Santa, but neither of them believe anymore. No bells here. Our neighbourhood didn't do the clapping thing either, though, so I doubt we'd have bells even if it was a street full of kids!

BeakyWinder · 03/11/2020 07:28

I'd guess the number of people with a bell in their house is quite small..

lazyfecker · 03/11/2020 07:31

Back in the 70s my Mum used to ring little bells outside our door when we'd gone to bed on Christmas Eve Smile

user1493494961 · 03/11/2020 07:36

I have my bell ready Op.

no idea whether we'll do it or not cause depends what the rules are by then whether we're doing something else! but if we're at home then we may well participate, my own kids are a bit old but we live near lots of young kids and if it cheers them up then what the hell is the harm?

i do have THREE neighbours who had their Halloween stuff down and the start of Christmas stuff up on Sunday though so perhaps my judgement is off cause of the nutters I live near... Wine

BeakyWinder · 03/11/2020 07:39

I suppose I could play Fairytale of New York on repeat instead?

and the belllsss were ringing outtttttt

BexR · 03/11/2020 07:40

I think it will feel quite special for kids to hear lots of bells ringing in their neighbourhood.

It's crazy how dour people get over completely optional ideas.

Nottherealslimshady · 03/11/2020 07:40

Why is it always noisy? Cant you celebrate quietly?

NotQuiteUsual · 03/11/2020 07:46

It definitely sounds less bad than standing on doorsteps clapping with all your neighbours awkwardly smiling at each other. At least the kids would be there so I don't have to make eye contact.

I know how antisocial this makes me and I don't care.

Marshyellow · 03/11/2020 07:47

I think it's sweet, I'll be joining in.

Bookworming · 03/11/2020 07:48

Not got small ones anymore, but I think it's a lovely idea.

Hopefully I'll hear some bells ringing.

Love this idea though

ellentree · 03/11/2020 07:50

We will do it. My daughter has a silver bell she was given as a christening gift and we also have sleigh type bells they had as babies so we have plenty lying around!

ShowingOut · 03/11/2020 07:50

@LagunaBubbles

Sparklesocks

This is MN. Come on, people are always looking down on something here. At least its a change from Facebook I suppose.

Are you two looking down on the people who look down on things then?
