To think lock down will be much longer than four weeks

Looking at the reality of where transmission takes places and what's actually been shut - there's no way this lockdown will be sufficient. At the end of four weeks schools will shut early for Christmas, when deaths reach a frighteningly high level.
Back in March we locked down when there had been 21 deaths only and it still took seven weeks of a full lockdown to reduce numbers to a level where anything was eased off. I know the Government won't want to scare people further at this point, but does anyone else agree?

Igotthemheavyboobs · 01/11/2020 09:09

I think we are in for 12 weeks again.

Newmumatlast · 01/11/2020 09:10

Yes

funinthesun19 · 01/11/2020 09:10

I think it will last longer too.

lovelemoncurd · 01/11/2020 09:10

I think it will be extended. Not sure by how much though. It's like turning round an oil tanker isn't it?

Angeldust747 · 01/11/2020 09:12

They've said after 4 weeks they will start releasing certain regions back into tiers. I don't think the North will be out of lockdown any time soon

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 01/11/2020 09:12

Yes. But im so hoping they'll ease some of it. Like kids sports or meeting outdoors.

Im not sure about schools.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 01/11/2020 09:13

YANBU. Just like the first one was t last only 3 weeks. It's total BS.

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2020 09:13

I just don't know. No point speculating really, if it's longer then so be it. There must be a scientific reason 4 weeks was chosen and they had to start somewhere albeit a bit late.

wanderings · 01/11/2020 09:14

Only if we let it. We must stop letting Saint Boris off the hook with not keeping his promises. The public knows that it takes time for the measures to work, even if the government thinks we have forgotten.

Businesses need to publicly plan for reopening on 2nd December. We need to lay the blame squarely at the government's door if this does not happen, not succumb to the divisive blaming the public they are likely to instil (aided and abetted by sites such as this one). The devastating consequences of LOCKDOWN (not the virus) must be laid bare.

AmmoniteMum · 01/11/2020 09:14

I think it will be longer because schools are staying open however, I want schools to stay open and my kids to be at school, mine are teens. It’s difficult isn’t it.

We’ve already said to my parents who are on their 70’s that we will see them in the spring when hopefully there is a vaccine.

PurpleDaisies · 01/11/2020 09:14

I don’t think people or the Tory backbenchers will tolerate it. After four weeks we’ll have the tier system again (I hope).

nibdedibble · 01/11/2020 09:14

I think it’ll have to be longer now, simply because it wasn’t implemented sooner so numbers have got out of control (poor government to blame for this).

DappledThings · 01/11/2020 09:14

I don't think anyone believes it's 4 weeks do they? Your OP would be more realistically phrased that way round.

MiaMarshmallows · 01/11/2020 09:15

I'm hoping it will go back to tiers. I think the government know there will be a real lack of compliance if it goes further than the 2md December especially when into the festive season by then.

MrsWhites · 01/11/2020 09:15

I’m not sure, I think they will have a very hard time selling a December lockdown to most people. I think a lot of people are accepting of the current lockdown because they believe it will ‘save Christmas’ but I’m not sure how happy people will be with the same situation in December.

The problem is, lockdowns don’t work, they just push the problem further down the line. Without a vaccine for the vulnerable, the only real out is mass testing but the government can’t seem to get their arse into gear and actually get a handle on this!

letmepeeinpeace · 01/11/2020 09:16

Lockdown has to happen urgently, this Thursday! Wth! Anyway, from now until Thursday some people will be cramming things in. Shops will be crazy, pubs and clubs busy. This will cause an increase in cases which won't occur for another 1-2 weeks. This will then mean lockdown extended. Some people have had enough, Liverpool is a prime example of that

PurpleDaisies · 01/11/2020 09:17

I don’t think it’s four weeks until back to normal, but I do think the stricter rules will be relaxed in many places.
islockdownoveryet · 01/11/2020 09:18

Kick us when we're down why don't you !.
But no I don't, it would be insane to keep shops / hospitality/ salons shut throughout December it's the busiest time .
I do think possibly January / February again though .

RedToothBrush · 01/11/2020 09:19

It wont be 4 weeks. Anyone thinking it will be is misjudging the situation enormously.

MiaMarshmallows · 01/11/2020 09:19

Clearly it won't be back to normal after 4 weeks, that is very gullible thinking. But I can't see how they can enforce it nationwide after that time period.

lazylump72 · 01/11/2020 09:20

Micheal Gove on Sophy Ridge this morning ..lockdown may be extended and could be ..all options open....straight from the horses mouth! .

PleasantVille · 01/11/2020 09:20

@GlummyMcGlummerson

No one said it would be for 3 weeks, they said it would be reviewed after 3 weeks.

Just like the last time MN is going to be overrun by threads of posters populating and guessing about what might happen

We just don't know

paintmywholehousecobweb · 01/11/2020 09:21

Lockdown will be for months. With a couple of breaks.

HelloMissus · 01/11/2020 09:22

Michael Gove said this morning that it will be reviewed at the end of four weeks.
So extension then.

Takemetothebar · 01/11/2020 09:22

So the government don’t want to scare people further, but you do?

Do you feel better, having made more frightened people, more frightened?

Could you at least piss off to the Covid board?
