To think lock down will be much longer than four weeks

Looking at the reality of where transmission takes places and what's actually been shut - there's no way this lockdown will be sufficient. At the end of four weeks schools will shut early for Christmas, when deaths reach a frighteningly high level.
Back in March we locked down when there had been 21 deaths only and it still took seven weeks of a full lockdown to reduce numbers to a level where anything was eased off. I know the Government won't want to scare people further at this point, but does anyone else agree?

My instincts tell me that 4 weeks won't be enough to benefit from any lock down, but sadly, I don't think our government will have the guts to maintain it for long enough to have an impact of any real value.

For it to have a real impact, we need it to last longer and across Xmas.

OP, I agree. My gut feeling is end February next year.

Reasons I think lockdown will be extended.
First, Boris has said it won’t be ...
Second, if restrictions are lifted in early December, we’ll start to see a rise in hospitalisations and deaths at Xmas. And that won’t go down well.

Deaths aren’t going to reach a frighteningly high level! What a terrible thing to say. Most people who were going to die of Covid or something else already have! The apparent Covid death rate is about 200-300 per day when every other normal day of every year 300 people die so it’s not higher than normal. And funny how no one is dying of flu anymore...

How do you know Pinkfluff76?
Also I am surprised you don't mind how scary the figures you quote actually are?
300 people die every day- all causes included. That means old age, sickness, freak accidents etc
You're adding the same number daily for Covid- which means Covid doubles the daily death rates and you don't find that concerning???

There's something very wrong with your numbers here, the weekly average deaths this year is around 11500 per week, that's around 1650 per day!

The latest covid deaths are slightly under 1000 a week
