Morrisons Discount for school staff

To think Morrisons are wrong to offer 10% discount to school staff from Monday? What about nursery staff, university staff, college staff, and all the other essential workers, who haven't been on full pay all through the pandemic. Never mind those who have lost their jobs and businesses.

Why does every nice thing have to be met with cries of "what about meeeeeee".

Their shop, their rules.

They don't have to offer discounts to everyone.

Oh for gods sake, I don't begrudge any bloody discount to any group. Every time a shop does this somebody has a moan.

I find it really distasteful the "what about me" brigade. Let's just appreciate a business doing something nice for someone. They can't give everyone a discount or they would be out of business!

Every offer you could say ‘what about ...’. They can pick who they want to give discount to. Household of emergency service worker who has worked the whole time and at large risk and another who has been made redundant, so discount would be lovely but it’s not to be.

I do a voluntary thing for group X. I am constantly being asked why I'm not doing it for group Y. Well, because I choose to do it for group X.

I'm definitely not going to stop working with group X because I don't work with group Y.

Instead of whinging about teachers getting 10% off their shopping at Morrison’s and it not being fair on everyone who isn’t a teacher, how about lobbying the government for better provision for those you feel are struggling financially?

Well I'd rather they made a generous donation to food banks and helped those who really need it.

Morrisons give 10% for NHS staff, not sure about other supermarkets.

Lots of people who work in my local morrisons have school aged children. They were asked to work extra hours and many of them used keyworker provision in schools to enable them to work so maybe Morrisons just feel like saying thank you!

Childcare staff could argue they should get a discount but college and university students didn't need the keyworker provision in the same way younger pupils did so why should they get a thank you?

Teachers deserve way more than a 10% discount in a supermarket (they deserve bloody medals) but it’s a start.

And ignoring the other staff in the school who earn significantly less than a teacher.

Have you even read it? The discount also applied to university and nursery staff, as well as support and office staff in schools. There's little more frustrating than some eejit who gets on their high horse based on a tiny fraction of a story.

Surely as a business they are allowed to offer a discount or special treatment to anyone they wish. It is a business decision that they have made based, I am sure, on reasons more complex than you know.
