Morrisons Discount for school staff

Tigerbalmtonic · 31/10/2020 13:29

To think Morrisons are wrong to offer 10% discount to school staff from Monday? What about nursery staff, university staff, college staff, and all the other essential workers, who haven't been on full pay all through the pandemic. Never mind those who have lost their jobs and businesses.

@Tigerbalmtonic

Well I'd rather they made a generous donation to food banks and helped those who really need it.
DITTO!
anniegun · 31/10/2020 14:35

That is you flouncing off to Tesco then. Oh hang on they give out schools vouchers......

FredtheFerret · 31/10/2020 14:36

@SpookyNoise

I’m a teacher and I’m currently at home suffering from Covid, which I got from school. The 10% in store discount is no good to me right now. I hope that makes you feel better, OP.
Me too.

I've also passed it on to all the people I live with, including my vulnerable DH and my children.

Hope that makes people happy. We've had a lovely half term.

marveloustimeruiningeverything · 31/10/2020 14:38

I'm looking forward to using the discount and being appreciated for one. As a full time TA working for peanuts, I've helped keep school open for KW children all through lockdown, and then ran a bubble during the second half of the summer term, and in a full time bubble now. We will stay open even if the country locks down again. Our school has also stayed open for care for KW children over the half term, and any other working parents that needed it, for a reasonable contribution so the available staff could be paid to keep it open.

And I'm at risk, but can't wear a mask or any other protective equipment in the bubble; not allowed. So yes, it's nice to feel appreciated, even a little.

rawlikesushi · 31/10/2020 14:38

Our local fb site is being absolutely venemous about this. I can't imagine what goes on in the head of someone who sees someone else getting something for nothing and takes to the internet to rage about it.

DDs teacher spent the whole of half term self isolating because several children in the class tested positive on the last day of term, after a sleepover.

Nope you are both OK and recover quickly.

I am not sure it will make anyone happy. The hoards will be along in a minute to tell you you couldn’t possibly know where you got it....

Greenmarmalade · 31/10/2020 14:41

So far, i’ve about fifty quid out of my wages on stationery, prizes and coloured pencils for each separate bubble. A discount is very much appreciated! It also makes me feel a bit better after the crap we get in some papers and on here.

GladAllOver · 31/10/2020 14:43

Sorry to burst your bitchy bubble. I already knew that and have no problem with it.
Why did you bother to post here if you weren't prepared to accept the reasonable replies?
YABU.

Good on Morrison’s.

Teachers are doing an awesome job. Poor bastards.

CatsAndEyeliner · 31/10/2020 14:45

Read the thread @Clarice99

FredtheFerret · 31/10/2020 14:46

Thanks, @Enoughnowstop

We're pretty sure where we caught it. I went to school for the last two weeks, driving my own car, and came home again. Groceries were delivered. I did not go to any other place except school as we were trying to limit contact due to DH vulnerable status. He wfh and didn't leave the house.

But yes, the 'Keep schools open at all costs' brigade will tell me I must have caught it somewhere else, obviously...

Derekhello · 31/10/2020 14:47

Morrison’s also give 2 discount cards to their staff to give to friends and family, no matter who they are or where they work, way before corona virus, have you got a problem with that too?

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 14:47

Yep, I've bought so many books this year already, plus a full PE kit for one kid whose parents don't seem to think it's important. Not that I have a Morrisons anywhere near me, but still.

marveloustimeruiningeverything · 31/10/2020 14:47

Morrison's has changed it today: now includes nursery school workers and college workers, too.

Valid nursery, school or college photo ID required. Includes all school employed staff for: Private nurseries, Local authority nurseries, Pre - Schools, Primary, Secondary, Private and Special Educational Schools, Sixth Form Colleges and Further Education Colleges.

How do you differentiate between a low grade member of say university admin staff and a 6 figure earning academic? You can’t. A company can choose to offer discount to any sector they wish. You don’t like it, shop elsewhere.
BadlydoneHelen · 31/10/2020 14:47

I'm very grateful for the discount- but it's a business decision isn't it. Morrisons aren't giving away money without factoring in that they'll pick up a greater market share amongst school staff thus the discount is 'paid for' Same with all the NHS discounts- it's all marketing

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 31/10/2020 14:48

I work for said supermarket and I can tell you our store is very generous with donations in the community and food banks too! It seems businesses can’t do right for doing wrong sometimes.

alphabetsoup1980 · 31/10/2020 14:51

So what's the point of your post??

BadlydoneHelen · 31/10/2020 14:51

I'm not criticising them-I love my local store and I'm aware that in common with most businesses they have a budget for charitable donations too!

purplewaterfall · 31/10/2020 14:52

Lots of my friends and colleagues have now caught Covid at school. We also spend hundreds on resources and buying breakfast for the children each year, using our own money.

Come, join us. Sign up and be a teacher. Then you'll get the perks too.

Bambooble · 31/10/2020 14:53

The whataboutery is strong in this one. It is for school staff as well as teachers, I think it's fab. Not enough money in the world to pay me to be a teacher or work in a school, and not only deal with the shit storm the government have created in schools (in addition to the usual above and beyond hours and buying resources for the classroom for crap pay), but with some parents, and bitter, disgusting people like you.

Bambooble · 31/10/2020 14:54

Morrisons have also been great through the pandemic, and do a lot for local communities.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 31/10/2020 14:54

There really is no pleasing some people. They're giving discount to NHS staff and school staff...do you want them to extend it to everyone? It really is up to them who they choose to give discount to.

Willowkins · 31/10/2020 14:55

I think it's a nice gesture given that they have worked so hard to keep children's education going and at increased risk to themselves.
