Morrisons Discount for school staff

Tigerbalmtonic · 31/10/2020 13:29

To think Morrisons are wrong to offer 10% discount to school staff from Monday? What about nursery staff, university staff, college staff, and all the other essential workers, who haven't been on full pay all through the pandemic. Never mind those who have lost their jobs and businesses.

OP posts:
ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 31/10/2020 14:11

Another moaning it’s not fair they get a discount

There are loads of offers online it’s a marketing ploy

But good for those who can take it up I’m happy my ds is back in school

I took some of mine up Grin and I got the odd free meal and coffee GrinGrin

converseandjeans · 31/10/2020 14:11

OP why are you ok with NHS getting it but not teachers? Many NHS staff do admin so have no contact with groups of people. Teachers have contact with on average 150 students per day in small classrooms.

mitsik it's ALL school staff not just teachers.

@BigButtons

Absolutely. One of the things that has been truly galling through all this is the utter disrespect and disregard of the teaching profession and the contributions we have made. If Morrison’s want to give me a discount, I will happily switch to them for a while.

Mrsjayy · 31/10/2020 14:15

Why do people froth about something that they have not understood fully. This is like the Wales isn't selling baby bottles thread of Monday afternoon 😑

Eckhart · 31/10/2020 14:16

No shop is obliged to provide equal treatment to everybody (outside of laws regarding discrimination)

No customer is obliged to shop somewhere if they don't like the ethics of the management.

Have you heard of Sainsbury's, OP? Tesco? Asda? Aldi? Waitrose? Lidl? Got any local shops? I'm sure you can manage to find somewhere you like. In fact, if you go to Aldi or Lidl, you might be able to get your shopping for 10% less, and it'd save you having to whinge.

Sewrainbow · 31/10/2020 14:16

No different to the NHS benefits some shops offer. There will always be more people who could benefit from such a gesture and others are entitled to it but don't need it...

It's up to them what they consider offering.

SpookyNoise · 31/10/2020 14:18

I’m a teacher and I’m currently at home suffering from Covid, which I got from school. The 10% in store discount is no good to me right now. I hope that makes you feel better, OP.

Noitjustwontdo · 31/10/2020 14:19

I didn’t read the email but pretty sure it said teachers which would include teachers across all sectors (including college tutors like me- get in!).

Sh05 · 31/10/2020 14:19

@Audreyseyebrows

Teachers deserve way more than a 10% discount in a supermarket (they deserve bloody medals) but it’s a start.

I don't think they could verify childminders - I am NHS staff and initially have to show photo ID in store. To get it online I had to click a link in an email sent to my NHS address to confirm my employment and this updated my Morrisons app so I can get discount I store by showing a barcode on the app.
If schools have similar style of email addresses then your entitlement can by confirmed easily but don't see how they could do this with childminders.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 31/10/2020 14:20

Here have a biccy on me Biscuit

IcedLimes · 31/10/2020 14:20

Why does every nice thing have to be met with cries of "what about meeeeeee"
Agree with this

Coolieloach · 31/10/2020 14:21

I’m a teacher and am not eligible- it doesn’t include supply teachers or peripatetic staff

Thisismylife1 · 31/10/2020 14:21

OP are you one of those people who moan about everything? I think it’s brilliant good on them!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/10/2020 14:21

I’m not sure I understand your snippiness towards me @Halliehallie9828 I only asked a question, I do not begrudge teachers the discount so don’t insinuate I did. I literally asked a question to find out if I could possibly get a discount as it would be very much appreciated due to tight finances right now. Calm down. Not everyone is looking for a fight.

Funkypolar · 31/10/2020 14:22

Most workers get some kind of discount. I have a Blue Light Card and a Defence Discount Card. Retail workers get discounts at their stores.

Sewrainbow · 31/10/2020 14:22

Teachers have had a rough ride through covid. They have worked all through with little thanks or recognition for what they do. They're expected to work with no ppe in front of classes of children or teenagers (who are most likely to spread it) who are also not wearing ppe in lots of cases.

They should be recognised for their service and if Morrisons want to do that good on them!

Vivana · 31/10/2020 14:25

I'm a care Assistant and care for covid residents and put myself at risk. But teachers do a amazing job and they should have a discount. NHS get many discounts of things and teachers rarely get anything.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/10/2020 14:25

I don't think they could verify childminders We have ofsted EY numbers which are linked to our names and addresses and we all have registration certificates we could show if needed. But it’s fine, I don’t mind that we can’t, would have just been useful if we could. Like lots of people it’s been a tricky year so will take help where I can.

LagunaBubbles · 31/10/2020 14:26

And ignoring the other staff in the school who earn significantly less than a teacher

Well since this isn't true I would check before you make any more stupid statements Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 14:28

There's a whole website called Discounts for teachers (heads up everyone!). I have enjoyed 30% off Boden, 10 % off a cottage, I also get a discount at TopShop should I ever use it.

The Morrisons discount is just being trailled now : I was offered it last year after I mentioned I was a teacher to the checkout girl but had no ID.

Really sorry, OP. I must go away now to self flagellate.

Flipflops85 · 31/10/2020 14:28

It’s interesting you don’t mind nhs staff having a discount, but begrudge school staff 🤷‍♀️

My local Morrison’s have an amazing food bank initiative (it’s possibly across all stores, but not sure) they bag up various packs of food bank donations, based on the current needs.

It means the food bank receive appropriate donations, and more people do it, because it’s easy. The packs range in price from about £2 to £10. So along with their charitable donations that someone mentioned above, they’re doing quite a bit for food banks too.

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 14:31

Have you applied for your tax rebate for WFH during the pandemic OP? That might cheer you up, if you have been.

GuyFawkesDay · 31/10/2020 14:32

I'll use some of my discount to add food bank bags to my shop.

I'll also take more in for the kids in my tutor group who don't get a decent breakfast every day.

So cheers, Morrisons. It's much appreciated.

WitsEnding · 31/10/2020 14:33

We seem to be moving into an era of differential pricing based on who you are, and I think if/when it becomes commonplace it’s going to bite a lot of people on the bum.
Won’t take long for the supermarkets to charge more (sorry ‘give less discount to’) those they don’t make so much money from ... tough world for those in the gig economy.
