Morrisons Discount for school staff

Tigerbalmtonic · 31/10/2020 13:29

To think Morrisons are wrong to offer 10% discount to school staff from Monday? What about nursery staff, university staff, college staff, and all the other essential workers, who haven't been on full pay all through the pandemic. Never mind those who have lost their jobs and businesses.

OP posts:
MyMPwontlisten · 31/10/2020 14:56

They have changed it.

Coldandwet123 · 31/10/2020 15:07

Brilliant, thank you for the heads up.

Hooe you're donation to the food bank is successful OP.

LittleEsme · 31/10/2020 15:08

My local Morrison's donates to the local foodbank OP.

DarkMintChocolate · 31/10/2020 15:11

*Morrison’s also give 2 discount cards to their staff to give to friends and family, no matter who they are or where they work,•

According to DD, three now!

CouldBeOuting · 31/10/2020 15:19

OP will be glad to hear that I won’t be able to get the 10% off.

I am a school admin officer. I don’t earn enough to pay tax. BUT my school has name badges nothing with photo ID .... so no discount for me or any the other staff on my school.

Brilliant good on Morrison’s! My DD also works there and they’ve been great throughout this year. Only shop I’ve felt safe shopping in to be honest 😊
Sunshine0620 · 31/10/2020 15:21

I think it’s a lovely gesture. I work in HE; whilst it’s been challenging it’s been a rewriting programmes and getting used to online teaching/working kind of challenge rather than putting yourself at risk going in to look after keyworker children with no PPE kind of challenge (and then trying to catch them all up after varying success of online learning - or not - after their return in September!)
I also really really hope the nursery staff are included. They are angels in disguise. In every day through the whole thing with no PPE (because it’s too scary for the kiddos) and also without the union back up/general public goodwill that school teachers have. Thank you to you all!!

Orcus · 31/10/2020 15:22

I think you have to accept the very real possibility that Morrisons couldn't give a fuck what you think OP.

whoareyouIwonder · 31/10/2020 15:25

Can always retrain OP? Always in need of good teachers.

Brighterthansunflowers · 31/10/2020 15:29

YABU

Businesses can choose to give discounts to anyone as long as it’s not discriminatory

It’s good publicity for them to make gestures like supporting teachers, just like many companies did similar for NHS staff in the spring

SaltyAndFresh · 31/10/2020 15:30

Here's your arse OP. 🍑

DoubleDeckerBusRideLover · 31/10/2020 15:30

BUT my school has name badges nothing with photo ID .... so no discount for me or any the other staff on my school.

Our school is the same but I am assuming if I show my work ID (with full name) plus photo ID, it will be sufficient.

switswooo · 31/10/2020 15:35

I don’t get any discount but don’t begrudge anyone else.

Actually I think my work (private sector) does offer 5% off at a few supermarkets. It’s the gift card scheme so never did it.

Cloudburstagain · 31/10/2020 15:38

Only in store though I think.
As a teacher who had to shield, but now work, am not going into shops,.

ImWorriedAboutThis · 31/10/2020 15:39

@LagunaBubbles

And ignoring the other staff in the school who earn significantly less than a teacher

Well since this isn't true I would check before you make any more stupid statements Hmm

Well it’s certainly true for me! I work in a school kitchen and earn significantly less than a teacher. I also worked all through the lockdown ensuring the kids were still being fed. I don’t get paid directly by the school though, so I’m out.
spanieleyes · 31/10/2020 15:40

I'm the same, always shop at Morrison's but haven't been inside a store since March- home delivery or click and collect since then. Might just go in for my Christmas shop and use the discount then!

KatherineOfGaunt · 31/10/2020 15:42

No Morrisons near us so as a teacher I can't take advantage but I'm glad for all the support staff who'll get to use this discount.

OP, you're incredibly miserable if you don't mind all NHS staff getting a discount but begrudge the same for the lower-paid support staff and nursery staff etc. who have been working this whole time with basically no safety measures bar some hand gel.

Shows you to be a lovely person. Not.

Andsomywatchbegins · 31/10/2020 15:43

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

I don't think they could verify childminders We have ofsted EY numbers which are linked to our names and addresses and we all have registration certificates we could show if needed. But it’s fine, I don’t mind that we can’t, would have just been useful if we could. Like lots of people it’s been a tricky year so will take help where I can.
I'm a childminder too, couldnt claim any of the government financial support packages. I follow the same educational framework as a nursery or pre school. I'm a professional educator with qualifications, registered with a government body. I invite children into my home during a pandemic, when I can't do the same for my own family. Just feels a bit shit not to be included, yet again
Bambooble · 31/10/2020 15:43

Is it through a sub contractor @ImWorriedAboutThis? A lot of them have pretty good discounts for staff, it's worth a Google.

ForthPlace · 31/10/2020 15:43

Thank goodness that school staff are being recognised and thanked

They have been and continue to be amazing throughout these really tough times in schools.

Bambooble · 31/10/2020 15:45

@Andsomywatchbegins I do actually agree childminders should be included, even if it is slight whataboutery. Our childminder is absolutely fantastic, and it's such a shame they're always excluded and a lot of people think they're just babysitters.

ImWorriedAboutThis · 31/10/2020 15:47

@Bambooble yes is it. Thanks, I’ll have a look...

Georgeoftheinternet · 31/10/2020 15:47

We are all essential workers? I work for a housing company doing admin and I’m low paid, and if I wasn’t doing my work people would be vulnerable.

Sick of this glorifying of people doing jobs.

SentientAndCognisant · 31/10/2020 15:52

I can not fathom the gripey why are they getting that?
It’s a nice gesture and the teachers are key workers who deserve it
Well done Morrison’s

Saucery · 31/10/2020 15:55

It’s to encourage customer loyalty going forwards.
Not everyone will use it. I won’t, for one. My local Morrison’s is cramped, lets far too many people in for distancing to happen and mask usage is very low. They could offer me 50% off and I still wouldn’t go in there.
