Exactly that .

He got it spot on today, I thought. Just the right of amount of emotion, and plenty of sound reasoning behind what he said.

cardibach · 15/10/2020 17:23

Saw this earlier.

Andy Burnham for PM?
Sunshiney1981 · 15/10/2020 17:24

Yes!
He’s got more empathy and brain power than the whole of the cabinet put together.

rabbitheadlights · 15/10/2020 17:27

I just wish there were more like him.

I've always respected AB but his statement "fighting.... for the health of our people in the broadest sense" is at risk of backfiring imo when local hospitals are overwhelmed and the unintended consequences of that become clear.

VinylDetective · 15/10/2020 17:30

We had our chance but got Gordon Brown instead.

DimityDeNimes · 15/10/2020 17:31

No, let AB lead the Northern Powerhouse whilst Keir Starmer becomes PM.

Laaalaaaa · 15/10/2020 17:33

I stopped voting Labour after he failed in his bid to be party leader.

1FootInTheRave · 15/10/2020 17:33

He is very charismatic and very attractive in rl.

Ilikewinter · 15/10/2020 17:34

Ive done a complete 180 on Andy Burnham today, I always thought he was a bit of a knob but I listened to his whole press conference today and absolutely agreed with him ( and the other councillors that were with him). It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days ....... I wanted to hear what suggestions they had put forward to government but they didnt expand on that.

I've had a bit of a guilty crush on him for years 🙈
Tippexy · 15/10/2020 17:38

No, he’s an absolute disgrace. The power has gone to his head.

We can dream
REDLIPSTICKANDNAILS · 15/10/2020 17:39

I've always liked him. He played a blinder today.

Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean Jeremy Corbyn?

Yanbu!

jessstan1 · 15/10/2020 17:40

He is so good, maybe too 'nice' for the top job but I would love to see him give it a go.

nosswith · 15/10/2020 17:41

He failed to become party leader and is doing more now in his current role than he would have done had he remained in the shadow cabinet. A strong local Mayor is a good thing- just look at who London has had over the last 20 years and if you are in Manchester, be pleased.

rabbitheadlights · 15/10/2020 17:41

No, he’s an absolute disgrace. The power has gone to his head

Please elaborate?

I haven't forgiven him for his role in the ridiculous ID cards fiasco.

REDLIPSTICKANDNAILS · 15/10/2020 17:44

He is so lovely in interviews and comes across so well. He's especially good with Shelagh Fogerty on LBC when she interviews him as he always says her name when answering questions and something about that makes me go quite weak at the knees 😃

HollowTalk · 15/10/2020 17:44

So hard to believe that Labour voted for Ed Milliband and then Jeremy Corbyn, when they could have had Andy Burnham. He's in a different class.

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2020 17:44

He feels passionately about this and that shone through today.

thepeopleversuswork · 15/10/2020 17:44

I can totally see that. He's a far better orator than Kier.

Also an obvious choice if you're one of those mythical Red Wall voters who voted Tory and are now thinking "holy fuck what did I do?" but are not quite ready for Kier.
