Exactly that .

I'm not sure why you have to be so rude.
I'm meant he would have my vote if it came to it. People are allowed to suggest someone they would vote for in a non election year
And I haven't taken anything away from the families who campaigned not at all. But like most campaigns, having someone in a position like Andy (or Rashford more recently), helps immensely. That doesn't take away from how hard the families and victims fought and I can't see where I've written anything that would give you that intention.
I actually really don't get why you've jumped at me.

DynamoKev · 16/10/2020 15:21

Marcus Rashford didn't need to get boooed before he got his principles.

Burnham is a careerist opportunist.

Not agreeing about something isn't the same as being rude.

Ecosse · 16/10/2020 15:27

Andy Burnham is absolutely right that COVID is not the only risk we face and that the economy has a huge impact on people’s health.

Lockdowns would mean businesses closing permanent and people losing their jobs- not only damaging their health but also the life chances and life expectancy of their DC.

That's exactly it. And why it makes me so cross. He's created this impression that somehow he was the driving force behind justice for the families. And it simply isn't true.
CrappleUmble · 16/10/2020 15:36

If you aren't saying it's irresponsible for Burnham to oppose Tier 3 belladonna or that it's the solution, then you weren't who I was talking about.

But he's not an MP so couldn't be voted for. I'd just like to know why, if he helped immensely, did nothing happen until just before Labour lost power? And after he was publicly humiliated?

No-one ever mentioned Phil Scraton, now there's someone who really did help immensely.

DynamoKev · 16/10/2020 15:57

There are quite a few examples on this thread (and elsewhere) of Burnham not being averse to some dirty tactics too.
I am generally a Labour voter but I fell out with Burnham over his opportunist support for the unworkable and ridiculous ID card database system (see also Meg Hillier)

Orangeblossom7777 · 16/10/2020 16:34

He'll get left with tier 2 now. Is that what you want? Confused No support and high case numbers.

Ecosse · 16/10/2020 16:47

@Orangeblossom7777

There’s no evidence that tier 3 would make any serious difference to case numbers.

There is evidence that many businesses would close on a permanent basis and thousands of people would lose their jobs- that would have serious economic and health impacts.

@Whatsnewpussyhat

No. Because he hates females who won't declare an adult male can be a woman.

Hmm - he was sympathetic when I collared him about the need for women-only spaces earlier this year.

CrappleUmble · 16/10/2020 17:09

Was he? I had him down as a TWAW type. Was one of the things I was thinking of when I mentioned valid criticism of him.

He was. I don't know what he's said in the past & I think he's had his ear bent by TRAs, but he was supportive.

Yes, there are a few threads on this if you search his name and Mumsnet..
annabel85 · 16/10/2020 17:27

The key point is tier 3 restrictions compared to tier 2 are far too minimal and will make little difference to the R rate (the scientists have even said this) but are crippling for some businesses forced to shut and their low paid workers and Burnham won't agree to it without having those workers and employers compensated at 80% rather than two thirds.

Burnham has called for a circuit break, it's the Tories who have their head in the sand.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 16/10/2020 17:31

Blimey. I’m 100 per cent behind him. I don’t even live there.

Well done that man. First common sense I have heard spoken in weeks

The80sweregreat · 16/10/2020 17:34

Someone asked Boris Johnson today about a circuit break and he hasn't ruled it out completely: this is just a can kicking exercise. See how it goes!
Have to see how it pans out.
I don't think it will work myself, but it is what it is for now.
I wonder if AB will back down now that the PM has said they need to do this?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/10/2020 17:44

Yeh, but did you mean FEMALE only spaces, because he includes penis owners in his definition of women and has used the slur of TERF against females.

StarCat2020 · 16/10/2020 20:31

If you are currently being affected by loss of income due to Tier 3 restrictions or anything else, please have a look at Universal Credit.

It isn't great but more people are eligible for it than people think.

Hopefully one day things like UC will no longer be needed.

Dee1975 · 16/10/2020 20:35

Anyone who says the whole country should lock down not ‘just us’ is an idiot. Why should the rest of us suffer because the numbers are high in other areas? He’s playing a dangerous game. Every new Case under his area is because he is delaying stricter rules.

grumpycivilservant · 16/10/2020 20:38

@EL8888

No, l think he’s mental. Especially the legal action stuff he has been trotting out this week. Boris has been more polite about that l would, l would have told him tough shit and just steam rolled him. The numbers speak for themselves, it’s not about what anyone “wants”
Numbers have reduced in Manchester for the last 6 days
luckylavender · 16/10/2020 20:41

@VinylDetective - no he stood in 2010 when Miliband won & 2015 when Corbyn won.

grumpycivilservant · 16/10/2020 20:44

@DynamoKev

People have short memories - Burnham was all for draconian measures when it suited him.
He's not against them now, he just wants people to be fairly compensated
OperationallySound · 16/10/2020 21:38

Really? Have a read of this:

@grumpycivilservant - and what about the other 9 boroughs?
