Inspired slightly by the saveloy thread and those no longer able to attain one.

I went to Key West 6 years ago and I’m still dreaming about the fish tacos. I’ve tried making myself and I can’t get it right. Not a single place in my Midlands city sells fish tacos. I so want them to become popular - can you Deliveroo them in London?

Also Vietnamese. Went to a fab restaurant in China Town and again have had various attempts but not been very successful.

What are you craving that’s hard to get hold of?

Sushi.
I can get Ok sushi in Leeds but don’t go to Leeds much at the moment.

Watercoloursky · 12/10/2020 16:05

Japanese food that isn't supermarket sushi. I'm lucky that there are a few great Japanese restaurants in the next town over, but I so wish there was somewhere I could walk to get it!

noideaatallreally · 12/10/2020 16:06

Gypsy tart - I know they sell it in Kent, but can't get it in Wales. My gran used to make this for me and I have not tasted it in 3 decades!

Decent clam chowder. In Boston USA they sell it in a bowl made of bread - heaven.

Mc2b · 12/10/2020 16:07

Basically everything, don't like on the mainland, when I do my annually trek to Inverness I pig out on all the fast food Grin

Tops ones though are:
Lebanese food, was just craving it the other night!
Greggs
Subway
Dominoes/any chain pizza place Grin

BlueBirdGreenFence · 12/10/2020 16:09

Soda bread. And wheaten bread. Miss both desperately.

Moltenpink · 12/10/2020 16:09

Rock salmon from the chippy, although I think I read recently it’s over fished or something so I might not get it again

paperandfireworks · 12/10/2020 16:10

An authentic, nasty, German Frankfurt

bearlyactive · 12/10/2020 16:10

Scraps - nowhere I've ever been does them!!

Pyjamaface · 12/10/2020 16:11

Tattie scones and square sausage. I can get it online but it's more expensive than just popping to the shop.

Cheese'n'burgers from a chippy. Also, proper scottish chippy chips with salt & sauce and deep fried pizza!

movingonup20 · 12/10/2020 16:11

Oh decent Indian restaurants. I so miss keralan food, just bog standard high street Indian restaurants here. I do make it myself but nothing beats prawn stuffed seabass when they have painstakingly removed the bones (I cannot be doing with filleting)

Everythingmagnolia · 12/10/2020 16:13

Everything from the German Christmas markets, especially the garlic mushrooms. We used to live over there and I miss it so much!

MumandnotMum · 12/10/2020 16:14

There’s this chain restaurant in Cyprus, couldn’t tell you what it’s called but they did the most fantastic prawns in buttery rice. I went there en route to Larnaca airport 6 years ago and can’t get them out of my head!

movingonup20 · 12/10/2020 16:14

Ditto clam chowder, and ivers garlic fries (both USA) ... longing for a us trip now

larajeancovey · 12/10/2020 16:15

Super unhealthy but In n Out burger and bacon, egg and cheese McGriddles from McDonalds.

Only available in the US Sad

MrsLeclerc · 12/10/2020 16:16

Bubba Gump’s crab legs and coconut rice. Had it years ago in Miami and I still think about it Grin

Also they closed our local Chiquito’s and the next nearest one is out of our lockdown area. I’m craving their churros.

speakout · 12/10/2020 16:17

Tropical fruit.

I lived in SE Asia for a while and the fruit was amazing.
I would buy huge bags of mangosteens for a few pence, rambutan, papaya, mango, guava were always so sweet and at the peak of ripeness.
I know you can buy some tropical fruits here in he UK, but they are expensive and don't travel well, so usually not worth buying.
I wish we could have the abundance of fruit.

I k

@bearlyactive

Scraps - nowhere I've ever been does them!!
Come to the North East - or actually probably not a great idea right now Grin

Mine is proper Malaysian street food - mainly beef satay. Also deep fried pizza and or a munchie box - I'm part Scottish - mainly my stomach Grin

purrswhileheeats · 12/10/2020 16:21

@BlueBirdGreenFence

Soda bread. And wheaten bread. Miss both desperately.
I can guess where you're from!

I'm in forrin but a very international community so fortunate enough to get everything from Lebanese cuisine to good old British fish n' chips. Can't get Kenco coffee here though for love nor money Sad

Ireallywantsomechips · 12/10/2020 16:21

A milkshake, sounds simple but the only place in my town that sells them is mcds but I would like a proper one! I would have to go to the next nearest city which is a bit silly for a milkshake!

I’d make my own but breaking blenders is my hobby

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/10/2020 16:21

Proper samosas.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/10/2020 16:21

Brick Lane style beigels

Birdladybird · 12/10/2020 16:22

Coconut shrimp and key lime pie from Bahama Breeze in USA
