Inspired slightly by the saveloy thread and those no longer able to attain one.

I went to Key West 6 years ago and I’m still dreaming about the fish tacos. I’ve tried making myself and I can’t get it right. Not a single place in my Midlands city sells fish tacos. I so want them to become popular - can you Deliveroo them in London?

Also Vietnamese. Went to a fab restaurant in China Town and again have had various attempts but not been very successful.

What are you craving that’s hard to get hold of?

White pudding supper with salt'n'sauce.

Anyone want to guess where I'm from?

Are you a fellow Edinburgh-er? That was my answer too haha
opinionatedfreak · 16/10/2020 18:44

I just spotted your answer. Yes, I am.

I insist on having chippy when i go home. Last time there was almost a diplomatic incident as L'alba doro were out of white pudding so I had to have haggis.

Sob.

opinionatedfreak · 16/10/2020 18:44

I have trained my london chippy to let me order a supper though.

Sodamncold · 16/10/2020 18:45

Really good fresh kimchi

Brunt0n · 16/10/2020 18:46

@opinionatedfreak oh I’d have been devastated too!

speakout · 16/10/2020 18:47

Really good fresh kimchi

I thought kimchi was a fermented food- and best after months of storage??

funkylittleboatrace · 16/10/2020 18:53

A proper parmo sadly not something you can get in Essex.

ShinyMe · 16/10/2020 18:54

I want my mum's chicken gravy. Can't get that here. :(

BillywigSting · 16/10/2020 18:59

Proper Irish brown bread (soda bread).

My df is back over quite a bit more than me on the ferry and I pester him to bring me home a couple of loaves from supervalu.

I can hike across the city and buy a poor approximation, or I can make my own with not quite right flour, but nothing comes close to the proper stuff. With a good quarter inch of good salted butter on top.

Poutine from Canada. So tasty

TheGodOfSmallThings · 16/10/2020 19:03

South Indian

ShatnersBaboon · 16/10/2020 19:06

Birds bakery cream cakes, and their little wholemeal rolls.

mbosnz · 16/10/2020 19:43

This could take a while:

Frying saucers, a deepfried delicately herbed mince and breadcrumb pattie in nz, topped with watties spaghetti, cheese and parsley
NZ whitebait patties and crayfish
A japanese katsu curry with uncrumbed chicken, and a ton of veges we used to get from a little takeaway place in London.
The most amazing Chicken Korma from a silver service restaurant in London, The Old Delhi.
A potato top pie, or steak and mushroom, from Kidds in Christchurch in NZ
Ditto a sausage roll or ham roll from the same place
A greek Lamb burger from Burger Wisconsin in NZ
Mrs Registers Pumpkin pie, my sister's MIL, lovely lady, even better pie, with cream straight from the cow!
My Mum's braised steak, also her salmon loaf.
Spanish breakfast sausages.

Runforhome · 16/10/2020 19:46

Ham and pease pudding stotties and a pork and stuffing roll with a bit of crackling from a pork shop on Percy Street ( this was in the 70s in Newcastle)

AlyMcNabs · 16/10/2020 19:50

Plantain. After holidaying in the Caribbean and tasting jerk chicken, rice and peas and plantain I really, really want to cook it. I can’t get plantain anywhere around here 😞

A fellow Edinburgher! I’ve been in Glasgow for 7 years and while I’ll accept salt and vinegar, I miss proper chippy sauce more than I miss my family Grin

It is a @speakout

You can still buy it. The best (in UK) is from a stockist in London that doesn’t deliver outside of London.
