to think you only buy a LV handbag to show off how wealthy you are?

I'm not disputing their quality, as having watched a lot of construction videos they do seem reasonably well-made, but the monogrammed "leather" is just so ugly.

A bog-standard tote will set you back £1200 - handmade bags made by lesser known brands/designers in full-grain, veg tan leather would cost less and be far more attractive. (And higher quality too)

Seeing as we wear things to make a statement about ourselves (for the most part) and considering the bags aren't aesthetically pleasing, the statement, in this case, must be "look how much money I have"?

Pandora is not in that category. If anything it probably signals someone who likes brands or wants the "in" thing or the moment or a lack of original style .

Wow! Really?🤣🐍

EatPrayYoga · 18/10/2020 14:30

Sorry that was probably more bitchy than I intended it to be. I just mean it's a different category of brand from LV.

BlueThistles · 18/10/2020 14:41

Usually owned by people who also covet flashy cars, hunter wellies, pandora bracelets etc. There's a type.

yes and you've chucked them all into one basket.. pandora indeed 🤣

My style went from flashy to having no original style in the space of a few minutes😆 Good job I am comfortable in myself!

I really don’t have a problem with designer things or anybody who buys/wears designer. I used to have 3 LV items, a tote, a duffel and a purse, bought for me as 21st birthday presents. The only one I used regularly was the purse and obviously that was tucked away in my handbag the majority of the time.

I personally struggle to spend that much money on myself, and in any event I would rather have 10 or 20 high street bags that I’ve no fear of using than one expensive designer bag. There has been over the years the odd designer item I’ve coveted over the years but never because they were designer, but because of the style and if I had been able to buy any of them on the high street for a fraction of the price I would have been nothing but overjoyed!!

Having anything particularly expensive always makes me nervous to wear it. DH has bought me Tiffany jewelry in the past, a lovely delicate necklace and matching earrings, he moans I never wear them. I do, but only on special occasions, they would last precisely 2 minutes with the toddler pulling at them!!

Meepmeeep · 18/10/2020 15:25

Can’t people just own a LV handbag simply because they actually like it. So many people on here claiming you own it for XYZ reason. No - I simply liked the bag so bought it. I adhere to non of the stupid stereotypes littered though out this thread. If you don’t own one or like them how can you possibly know why people own them?

Thankgoodness1 · 18/10/2020 15:43

Pandora is trashy imo.

Thankgoodness1 · 18/10/2020 15:45

And everyone that owns a Ford or an Audi.

Janegrey333 · 18/10/2020 15:48

@BlueThistles

the comparison with WAG's is deeply embarrassing .... I live on the rural west coast of Scotland... trust me.. nobody's running around here like a TOWIE extra... wax jacket wellies and woollies galore though... oh and a sprinkling of lovely large bags .. 🌺
More stereotyping, I note! Grin

I get that impression. Isn’t it aimed at older teen girls?
Meepmeeep · 18/10/2020 15:50

What makes a ford or Audi driver trashy? Especially intrigued with your reasoning for a Ford driver.

Thankgoodness1 · 18/10/2020 16:17

@Meepmeeep ~ I’m just regurgitating the same illogical shite back at the LV haters to see how stupid this all is! Grin

Ahhh! I was truly baffled at that one - I just don’t get why folk are so invested in hating the bags 🤣

Ethelfleda · 18/10/2020 16:35

The irony is, there are very few people who couldn’t ‘afford’ to buy one - most people have a spare 1200 quid sitting on credits cards if not in savings. That’s what I don’t get. Surely if you spend all your money showing people you have money then you’ll, er, run out of money??

My DH always says he wouldn’t pay a small fortune to essentially advertise a someone’s brand for them.

This thread is the gift that keeps giving.

Lumping luxury cars (McLaren) Hunter Wellingtons and Pandora into the same bracket.

Pandora 😂 Next someone will be berating those Avon wannabes.

CarolineBingley · 18/10/2020 20:26

This thread really is a giftGrin

I have the hunter wellies, I think some might describe my car as flashy (or it was in its day!) and very excitedly I have not just 1 but 2 Pandora bracelets. I think that makes me a wannabe, trashy, flashy and of a certain type according to this thread. Which means I really need to get the Neverfull Grin.

EatPrayYoga · 18/10/2020 20:34

I find it more telling that people think they're "flashy" for having certain brands but ultimately we should just buy what we like and can afford.

Janegrey333 · 18/10/2020 20:38

In what sense is it telling?

Janegrey333 · 18/10/2020 20:40

Does it tell you that someone has questionable taste or that someone has discreet taste?

EatPrayYoga · 18/10/2020 20:47

A few people have said they have "flashy" this or that but what someone sees as flashy another person might not. The pandora bracelet was an example further up the thread as other posters might not consider it flashy at all. There's nothing wrong with these but they might not be considered "high end" by some people.

So it maybe says more about someone's tastes or financial position or dare I say class that they think said thing is "flashy" more so than the fact that they own the item at all.

This is all about judgments and people do judge other people.

BlueThistles · 18/10/2020 20:58

the thread was started by OP to pull people down. 🌺

Ireolu · 18/10/2020 22:50

Don't knock it till you have tried it. Granted I will never by an LV handbag (too much logomania is not for me) but I have a few small bits (pouches/wallet) that are quite old but still look brand new. Customer service at LV is also pretty impressive they fix or replace anything that breaks/wears when it shdnt regardless of when purchased. That's y people buy the stuff.

Manteo · 19/10/2020 10:24

When did I say Pandora was flashy? I've just noticed that people who post pictures on social media of their new car are often the same people who post pictures of pandora bags on their birthday.

I don't think anyone said you did say that Hmm
