Break the law, admit it in court, go to prison. Simple. Not sure what the sad faces and holding the photo is all about.

@Downwithcovid I'm not saying it does, it's what's constantly getting said to the public.

TitianaTitsling · 04/10/2020 22:08

See 'wear a mask stop the transmission of covid'

I can't believe that anyone is defending sending these blokes to prison for two weeks. Some people have completely lost their minds and have no sense of proportion. It's fucking mental.

Pjsandbaileys · 04/10/2020 22:15

I of M is notorious for its heavy handed penalty system, I'm not surprised at all.

SBTLove · 04/10/2020 22:16

Holding his photo like he’s dead or in a Malaysian prison for 10 years 🙄🤣

Why?

And over here Dominic Cummings can break the rules and laugh in our faces because he's Johnson's adviser and he can get away with it. I wouldn't mind so much if his advice had been anything helpful. But they've cocked the whole thing up from the beginning because they don't really give a shit.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/10/2020 22:39

I find these laws unbelievably harsh. Prison is no joke and having served a prison sentence will screw up your life.

I actually can't believe that there are some people actually defending these idiots.

It's fucking mental

We are a small island, we complied with the strict lockdown in March/April/May so well that all community cases were contained and we had more than 100 days Covid free. In the last few weeks the extremely strict border restrictions were lifted slightly to allow people to come and go from the island provided that strict isolation was undertaken on return. Special permits have to be issued for non islanders to come to the island to do essential works and they are all advised prior to coming when the permit is applied for of the restrictions in place and they individually sign a legal declaration confirming that they will comply with those restrictions before they leave the boat. There is no excused or not complying with the rules other than selfishness. We cannot afford to lockdown again our economy simply couldn't withstand it so we have to be strict. For those who would like to know several people imprisoned for breaching the isolation rules have done so simply to purchase alcohol so not necessities at all.

jessstan1 · 04/10/2020 22:50

They wore masks so were hardly going to spread the virus.

Dairyfine · 04/10/2020 22:53

Do you think the Isle of Man will have trouble in recruiting essential workers in future? Have they got enough of their own welders ?

Liddell · 04/10/2020 22:55

Ha ha I was thinking that too!

20 years in Siberian salt mine at least.

Wish we could send Margaret Ferrier to jail for 2 weeks (I am Scottish).

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 22:56

@Dairyfine

Nope.

They get very well paid and only have to follow some very clear and simple rules.

It’s not complicated

OP posts:
Dairyfine · 04/10/2020 22:58

How do you know how much they get paid ?

jessstan1 · 04/10/2020 23:04

Downwithcovid: Since when did a mask stop you spreading a virus?
....
Of course it does, stupid! Don't you read anything?

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 23:04

@Dairyfine

How do you know how much they get paid ?
Because I bring people here on short term contracts all the time. I have three arriving tomorrow.

Also because they wouldn’t come if it wasn’t made worth their while. It’s pretty basic. To get someone to travel here and be locked in the hotel room when not actually working you have to pay them a premium on top of what they could earn by just driving 15 minutes down the road in the UK

OP posts:
MoonJelly · 04/10/2020 23:08

@Cadent

We subside your corporate tax rate to the tune of £300m pa so maybe don’t jail Brits for such a small thing?
Risking bringing a serious infection to an island that doesn't have it is not a small thing.
Dairyfine · 04/10/2020 23:08

So are you filling a skills gap then, if you are having to recruit from mainland UK ?

TazMac · 04/10/2020 23:08

Wish we could send Margaret Ferrier to jail for 2 weeks (I am Scottish).

Me too. She travelled through most of England on her way from London to Scotland, god knows how many she’s infected. Arrogant so and so, thinks she’s above the law (as do Cummings and Stanley Johnson).

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 23:12

@Dairyfine

Erm, yeah. Obviously.
OP posts:
MoonJelly · 04/10/2020 23:13

@TazMac

* that they were going to prison for not quarantining (bloody phone).

The IOM has forced others to mix with them in prison. That bit isn’t the welders fault, that but can be blamed on the IOM prison service.

I suspect prison facilities on such a small island are very limited, so in practical terms it may well have been near-impossible to separate out things like washing and cooking arrangements.
MoonJelly · 04/10/2020 23:15

Can't we find an excuse to send Cummings and Stanley Johnson to the Isle of Man?

MrsToothyBitch · 04/10/2020 23:22

The law seems heavily applied in the IoM but in this instance I agree with it- it's keeping the community safe and it works. They signed the docs, broke the law and are paying the penalty.

eaglejulesk · 04/10/2020 23:25

From some of the posts on this thread it's easy to understand why the UK has had such a covid problem!

They are a bunch of idiots, and good on the IOM for taking action (speaking from another island nation with similar rules).
