Break the law, admit it in court, go to prison. Simple. Not sure what the sad faces and holding the photo is all about.

I'm absolutely amazed at all the people defending these men.

There the same people that unwittingly spread it, clueless

@Biker47

So how do residents who return and have to self isolate, purchase groceries etc? Tried to find information on that but couldn't see any.
Returning residents if coming on boat have option of doing a big shop in Asda or the like in UK before coming back. A lot of us do this anyway in normal times, just for the novelty. We have no Asda, Aldi, Sainsbury's etc. Just one Tesco If that's not possible as family and friends to get provisions for you. There are community fb groups where you can post asking for a bit of assistance getting shopping. Locals will more than happy help you put and do it for you. Also local farms, especially during lockdown will make up veg boxes, take orders and deliver to your door. The Manx Creamery expanded their range of stock, they deliver. Companies that are usually used for the hotel & catering trade started to sell to public & will deliver. Incidentally when our pubs were closed during lockdown a good few especially in the rural villages turned themselves into shops selling good range of food, laundry & cleaning products etc. The pubs and restaurants from the start of lockdown would do takeaway delivery meals to your door. Some still do. Afternoon teas & sea food platters for example were popular as well as their normal menu. Takeaways like chinese, Indian & chippy did this also, it's carried on. We are a really friendly bunch here, we will do a strangers shopping no problem. We all know what it's like to return & isolate so the people and services have adapted to encompass this. Our government expect us to use each other in this way, we all pull together. A local was jailed for going to shop, was told no excuse in court as know fine well someone will always help you. He did stop off at pub too tho. Locals bn sentenced off top of my head to anything between 4 to 10 weeks. The welder guys actually got off lightly. One of the best things I've found is a Ladies fb set up start of Covid, to help, support, have a laugh and get through the strangest of times 2020 has turned out to be. New friendships have formed over the months & it feels like a proper female community of its own has sprung up. It now has a sister group if you fancy meeting up real life instead of online. It can be going for drinks, meal or event. If you feel lonely there's always someone to chat to Residents here don't worry about the 2 weeks isolation as you know that if you need anything just post on fb and someone will help you

From government Covid web page, a list of island wide places that deliver

Nikhedonia · 06/10/2020 08:40

Is anyone else reading the posts from IOM residents and thinking they'd quite like to move there? Or is it just me?

FOJN · 06/10/2020 09:28

Nikhedonia

No, not just you, although I am lucky enough to live in a place with a strong sense of community where people do look after each other. I really admire the sacrifices they made to get to where they are now with the majority putting the needs of the island as a whole before their own personal wants, I have no doubt it was hard going for a few months.

Downwithcovid · 06/10/2020 09:40

So. Here we have it.

And yes, rings like a man urinating outside MCDonalds really does land him in court and make the front page because we have virtually no crime.

@Balla your diatribe was irrelevant to my point which is it is insensitive to go on about proms and festivals when the UK is reporting 13k cases a day and deaths.

Please don't presume to tell me about sacrifices. my mum is shielding since March due to being extremely vulnerable. This means we are also mostly in isolation so we can still be her support bubble. So please don't go on about 'we sacrificed for the greater good' to me.

My comment wasn't about the 5 welders so your comments on that were irrelevant too.

honeygirlz · 06/10/2020 09:54

"ooh happy for the people of the Isle of Man that they can go to Proms... not. Oooh! The Jealousy is alive and well in this one!*

Well done for quoting my post out of context Hmm

@Downwithcovid

Oh that's Michelle Mones place isn't it ? £25 million is eye watering, can't see it selling anytime soon.

Do you think we as an island are insensitive to the UK's plight and rising cases/deaths ? I think there but for the grace of god go we & am thankful to our Government for the way they've handled it all the way through. It must be so scary for people in UK at moment. I have every sympathy for them

Nikhedonia · 06/10/2020 10:48

I think what's difficult is that lots of people on this thread (who live in the UK) will have made huge sacrifices personally since March and yet still cannot live normal lives.

The UK population haven't had a great examples from the central government leaders and have been given confusing messages and gimmicks.

The IOM have (it seems to be) a different culture, attitude, government and ability to restrict their borders.

Lots of people in the UK have 'played their part' but aren't any better off for it.

I don't see it as boasting from the people of the IOM, but I can understand the frustrations of those who have been making huge personal sacrifices but are getting nowhere.

MrsClatterbuck · 06/10/2020 11:04

There was a case I think back in August where a woman from NI applied to go to the IOM to wind up her mother's estate. She was to self isolate in her mothers house for 2 weeks. After a few days she got a bus to another part of the island to visit a locksmith with regard to opening her mother's safe. She was seen and reported to police who were waiting for her on her return. She was given a months sentence in jail. She said that she didn't realise the rules but the IOM said that they were very clear on the information she received from them on her successful application. Ironically she is the wife of a solicitor.

I think that in the UK lots of people have been breaking the rules (Cummings included ) and getting away with it. I think they assume that it will be the same in the IOM. That they can break rules and nothing will happen.

I might just have to peruse some IOM estate agents......

am from the Isle of Man and I also happen to be a lawyer. I totally support the stance taken. Our laws and rules are very clear. These individuals knew the rules and broke them and one turned out to have COVID. We do not have the infrastructure on the IOM to cope with a big COVID outbreak. we have operated COVID free for over 100 days. No longer due to these idiots.

Follow the rules people. I get that the rules are confusing and conflicting in the U.K. but they aren’t here they are perfectly simple. Come to the IOM from the U.K. you must self isolate. You do not stop off at tescos on the way to self-isolation!

Quietlyloud · 06/10/2020 19:31

How were they meant to eat if not buying something from the shop? Someone called police because mask wearing isn’t compulsory? What? So no one there ever wears a mask then?

Quietlyloud · 06/10/2020 19:34

Ignore my comment I hadn’t read further when I wrote what I did. Seems they had food at the hotel and knew the rules prior so it’s their own fault really.

To be honest there is no way DH would go for it. ☹️

IHateCoronavirus · 06/10/2020 19:59

100% support IoM strict stance. I’m in an area riddled with COVID-19, and it is because of all the idiots flouting the rules!

Now, what does the Isle of Man accent sound like? (Misses the point of the thread)

It’s a bit worrying if you are a lawyer and think key workers have to self isolate to be honest !

Oh don’t be worried DownwithCovid - maybe just read up on the Manx rules, which they broke.

Anyway, the IOM accent is terrible, I will admit
