I’ve posted about this before but now the roof is on it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s going to be a fucking wood workshop along with all the noise & dust that goes with it 😡

Ie informed the council - who are hot to look into the planning permission aspect.

In the meantime has anyone any ideas how we can cover this up so it’s not a complete eyesore?

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden. The sun is overhead most of the day so I don’t think it will block our light.

And the trampoline didn’t used to be there - it was there temporarily but we’ve left it there because I want to annoy them - I know I’m being petty 😜

YANBU.

Trellis on the top of your fence? Lots of tall plants?

Mintjulia · 09/09/2020 11:08

Well, it's not blocking your sunlight at least.

Trellis & plants Along the top of the fence. You can get fake ivy if you really don't want any plants.

MsEllany · 09/09/2020 11:14

Honestly I don’t see a problem with it and I wouldn’t do anything. I’d be ticked off with the noise as and when it happens, but a foot of roof peeking over a fence? Nah.

GreyishDays · 09/09/2020 11:14

Does bamboo in pots count as planted?

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/09/2020 11:17

You said it yourself, petty.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/09/2020 11:17

Bit rich considering your trampoline. I'm sure hat disturbs them and invades their privacy more than his shed will.

Fwiw my childhood neighbour did wood working in his garage, which was about 10m from our front door. He was retired and it was his hobby. Very talented man. Frankly the sound of the saws and vacuums going is part of my fond recollections.

Kaktus · 09/09/2020 11:18

Why does the sight of a wooden building annoy you so much?
Honestly I’d be pissed off with the noise and dust, but not with just being able to see it over my fence. It’s not obscuring a beautiful view.

Florencex · 09/09/2020 11:19

I didn’t even know what I should be looking at before I read other posts.

altiara · 09/09/2020 11:20

They probably don’t need planning. Just stick up some trellis.

WhatWouldJKRDo · 09/09/2020 11:21

It’s a shed. Get a grip.

1starwars2 · 09/09/2020 11:28

Gardens without any plants make me sad, maybe that's how your neighbour feels when he looks out his window at your garden.
Live and let live!

Wheresthebiffer2 · 09/09/2020 11:31

Their shed does not interfere with your view of the sky and tree-line. You are being unreasonable. If you want to not see any other buildings or structures when you look out your window, you need to move to the rural countryside.

stellabluesky · 09/09/2020 11:32

I doubt there's any planning permission issues with it, from what I can see in the photo it's looks like it's within the permitted measurements. If you have contacted the council, and they ask to go in to look at it, you're heading for poor relations with your neighbours. To be honest, I'd be really fed up with your trampoline if I was your neighbour, right by the fence so good chance I could see those who use it as they jump up and done on it along with it being noisy so they'll have an argument to retaliate with.

I don't understand why you're so upset about it. Put some quick growing plants in a pot by it with a trellis as others have said.

I think you should live and let live

billy1966 · 09/09/2020 11:34

The noise and dust would be a big No from me. I do think a bit of cosmetic planting would make a difference.

But noise and dust if it is constant would be a huge intrusion.

Handsnotwands · 09/09/2020 11:34

if you weren't looking at a shed you'd be looking at the roof behind it. i couldn't get worked up about this

Plussizejumpsuit · 09/09/2020 11:35

What's wrong? I live in an urban area and can see razor wire from my house now that's an eyesore. Honestly no idea what is going on here.

endofthelinefinally · 09/09/2020 11:36

It is just a few inches of shed.
My friend has a whole house just the other side of her fence. Windows looking directly into her home.
Planning permission initially refused then granted under very suspicious circumstances.
She is miserable about it but can't do anything.

Yes me too!
NearlyGranny · 09/09/2020 11:38

If that's a woodworking shop there may be stationary power tools in there screaming away, as well as lots of wood dust in the air.

If someone's starting a business, they need permission, so you've done right to alert the council. A workshop at the bottom of the garden was OK when gardens were 100ft long!

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/09/2020 11:39

I think we are predisposed to not like our landscape changing. Be it trees coming down, sheds or outbuildings going up, wind farms, solar farms, anything that negatively changes our environment just pisses us off. That’s my theory anyway!

MaskingForIt · 09/09/2020 11:41

Yeah, you lost any sympathy I had when you said you’d turned your garden into a flood-risk increasing wildlife desert.

The sawdust will build up on your fake garden far more than it would in a real garden, which would probably benefit from it.

MorrisZapp · 09/09/2020 11:41

I think it looks cute. I love the sound and smell of woodworking, within reason. Trust they won't be running screaming bandsaws all day. It's a shed, isn't it.

HappyBumbleBee · 09/09/2020 11:42

It’s their garden, they have every right to put up a shed and use it for whatever they want just as you are!
If it upsets you that much put trellis on top of your fence then you can’t see it!

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 09/09/2020 11:44

Why are you so worked up about a shed?

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2020 11:45

Bored working from home op?

I couldn’t get worked up about this, and moving your trampoline as some form of passive aggressive measure to piss them off is a bit batty.

Shove some trellis up if it bothers you.
