I’ve posted about this before but now the roof is on it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s going to be a fucking wood workshop along with all the noise & dust that goes with it 😡

Ie informed the council - who are hot to look into the planning permission aspect.

In the meantime has anyone any ideas how we can cover this up so it’s not a complete eyesore?

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden. The sun is overhead most of the day so I don’t think it will block our light.

And the trampoline didn’t used to be there - it was there temporarily but we’ve left it there because I want to annoy them - I know I’m being petty 😜

I voted YABU and I can be a right petty git.

I dont see how its bothering you. Get some pots of bamboo or something to line along the fence if you don't want to plant.

Jaxhog · 09/09/2020 11:46

Trellis and some fast-growing climber. And move the trampoline or you'll still be able to see it at the top of every bounce.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 09/09/2020 11:47

I would find your fake grass much more upsetting than having a little shed next door but I would learn to live with it as each to their own.

Lululemming · 09/09/2020 11:47

Ooh I would love a workshop (misses point). They don't need planning permission as long as it under 2.5 metres high and not used as a business premises or to keep pigeons 😶

CaMePlaitPas · 09/09/2020 11:48

A Tale of Modern Britain...

Bunglemom · 09/09/2020 11:50

Cant you put the fence on some boards at the bottom then trellis it off at the top and put plants etc?

Winederlust · 09/09/2020 11:50

What's the issue? It's not blocking your view of anything in particular, it's not blocking the sun, and surely the dust will be mostly contained inside? I couldn't get worked up about a bit of sawing and hammering, especially if I have kids trampolining that would probably make just as much noise!

Smallsteps88 · 09/09/2020 11:50

So you literally want to see nothing over the top of you fence? Confused

Eddielzzard · 09/09/2020 11:50

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden.

How depressing

PawPawNoodle · 09/09/2020 11:51

@billy1966

The noise and dust would be a big No from me. I do think a bit of cosmetic planting would make a difference.

But noise and dust if it is constant would be a huge intrusion.

A big No from you? You don't really get a say in what other people do in their sheds.

OP You aren't entitled silence in the garden, although ylu will likely be more atune to it just because of the audacity of your neighbour having a hobby in your general proximity. You are complaining about dust that isn't even a problem yet, and probably won't be unless he works with the doors open facing the tools over your fence. The height is blocking your view of the house behind, what a shame.

Put your energy into being pissed off about something more worthy.

nitsandwormsdodger · 09/09/2020 11:52

Sorry don't see any problem other than potential noise ?? Visually it is similar to what a lot of neighbours see over their fences, lots of people have work huts at the end if the garden similar
Have you spoken to the neighbours about the noise and found out is it for commercial woodwork or a hobbie space? Or daytime or weekends can you ask them to not use electric saws a the weekend maybe ?

And yes the trampoline is petty but probably won't bother them

Coriandersucks · 09/09/2020 11:52

Maybe next time buy a house that doesn’t back on to someone else’s garden?

unmarkedbythat · 09/09/2020 11:52

Move house.

ThatDamnScientist · 09/09/2020 11:52

The noise and dust, yeah be annoyed. The building? Truly can't see the problem.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 09/09/2020 11:53

You are making a fuss about nothing. My garden backed onto 3 detached Edwardian houses. These have been demolished, several mature trees (including a beautiful copper beech and a massive holly ) have been hacked down and for the last two years it has been a building site -it will eventually be a development of 39 flats. As I look out of my window now instead of trees I can see the partially tiled roof of a 4 storey building and 2 men in hi-viz jackets doing very little on the top of this roof.

It’s not ideal but people have to live somewhere and when the building work is over I hope the new development will have minimal Impact on my life. But equally I’d be very happy if all I could see was a few inches of a timber chalet.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 09/09/2020 11:55

Should not have got rid of the plants then.

Sorry!

MidnightCitrus · 09/09/2020 11:55

Not sure what the issue is here??

fourquenelles · 09/09/2020 11:55

Initially I wanted to say get a grip but I've just blown up the photo for a better look. That's a big bugger isn't it? More than just a shed I'd say. So I have some sympathy with you OP (despite your plantless garden).

Ranunculi · 09/09/2020 11:55

It doesn’t look illegal. Unless they’re running a business, or it has an electricity supply in which case they need building regs approval. If they’re too noisy you could make a noise complaint. Otherwise YABU if it’s just a shed.

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2020 11:55

Yup the pretend grass would annoy me more.

nitsandwormsdodger · 09/09/2020 11:56

Any dust would be inside the shed
Are you normally like this? Or going through a angry petty phase?

LaurieFairyCake · 09/09/2020 11:59

It's not tall enough to need planning (maybe separately if 'wood workshop' means cutting for other sites as a business)

It could just be a wood turners workshop - you know, craftsperson who makes low key bowls and causes no harm to others

At the moment you've got nothing to be annoyed about Confused

Are you ok?

Coffeecak3 · 09/09/2020 12:00

I suggest you brighten your own garden up then you may not notice the shed so much.
A clematis would look lovely on that fence.

AmandaHugenkiss · 09/09/2020 12:02

I think UABU but you can buy trellis with fake plants in it to run across the top of your fence that will block that view.

Your trampoline would annoy me far more; that’s a complete loss of privacy for your neighbours along with guaranteed noise on nice sunny days and evenings.

Itsjustabitofbanter · 09/09/2020 12:02

Oh get a grip op. It’s not blocking any sunlight or an amazing view. Can’t believe you phoned the council, pathetic af! 🙄
