That this is giving me the rage

I’ve posted about this before but now the roof is on it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s going to be a fucking wood workshop along with all the noise & dust that goes with it 😡

Ie informed the council - who are hot to look into the planning permission aspect.

In the meantime has anyone any ideas how we can cover this up so it’s not a complete eyesore?

Ideally nothing planted as we got rid of grass & plants last year to give us a low maintenance garden. The sun is overhead most of the day so I don’t think it will block our light.

And the trampoline didn’t used to be there - it was there temporarily but we’ve left it there because I want to annoy them - I know I’m being petty 😜

Can’t believe how many of you think it’s not a big deal , I would be so pissed off with having to see that every time I was in the garden !
Sooo annoying!

Roomonthebroom55 · 11/09/2020 08:59

Imagine being in your garden minding your own business and your neighbour was taking pictures of you and putting them on the internet. Isn't there a word for people like that....Hmm

justlliloleme · 11/09/2020 12:34

@Vinomummyinlockdown do you know what these are called - I can’t find them anywhere 😘

@yecannyshoveyergranny

Why do people keep going on about the neighbour being forced to look into op's lifeless garden when his is concrete with a massive shed? Can you not read or are you just genuine assholes?
I am a genuine asshole HTH
ibblebibbledibble · 11/09/2020 12:52

What’s with all the trampoline hate? Mumsnet is so full of snobs.

unmarkedbythat · 11/09/2020 13:04

I can't believe there are people who think seeing a shed in a back garden is an eyesore. Where else would you put a shed?

copernicium · 11/09/2020 13:05

I don't think the shed itself would annoy me but my NDN had a wood work shed for ten years and worked in it 8:30-5:30 every single day. Even when I worked nights. Drove me absolutely mad, anyone who visited commented on the noise even from the front of the house, we couldn't sit in the garden ... and there's zero you can do about it.

madcatladyforever · 11/09/2020 13:10

My neighbour at the end of my garden has put up a 9 foot fence which has blocked every last bit of my sunlight and garden enjoyment, it looks like prisoner cell block H out there.
The council are doing bugger all about it, sweet FA. I have sent letter after letter, emails and rung, nothing.
I think if there is no planning, easy to manage garden or not you will need to plant some trees or you'll go mad.
That's what I'm doing, 9 foot plus shrubs and trees to block the prison fence out.
I would ask them if they could insulate their wood shed because if the noise is unbearable you can get them on noise pollution.

This isn’t a shed - this is a workshop. He has a shed at the other side of his garden.

Oh @madcatladyforever that must be awful, certainly puts mine into perspective.

I’m not letting this wind me up now, I’ll have to live with it & find a way to disguise it. Annoying that it has to be at our expense though. It wouldn’t be as bad if he’d built it the other way around so we were just looking at the back 😔

Vinomummyinlockdown · 11/09/2020 13:36

@justlliloleme I don’t know the exact name but they’re privacy plant screen type things ... I saw them on Houzz and then came across them at my local garden centre. It’s a tree / plant with a metal trellis kind of build in. Not sure that helps you (!) but hopefully you can find something near you? Good luck and let us know what you chose 💗

Jeremyironseverything · 11/09/2020 16:03

It's probably worse in real life than it looks in the photos. If it's three foot above a six foot fence, that is quite imposing.

What about some decorative panels

TorkTorkBam · 11/09/2020 16:18

It might work out better than you think.

I am planning a woodworking workshop for my garden (don't worry, is huge rural garden/field). A dedicated workshop means I can set up a proper dust collection system, which is quite cheap to do but too ugly and awkward to put in a room that should be used for other stuff, like if we were working in a conservatory. Standard sheds are damn cold for working in, that's why when building my workshop I will put in loads of insulation, which has the added advantage of reducing noise. So, the workshop might be better for you than the outdoor working and the conservatory working.

Hopoindown31 · 11/09/2020 16:37

I believe if it is over 2.5 m high and within 2 m of the boundary it may require planning permission. Looks touch and go based on your photo as they look like 5ft high fence panels to me.

If it doesn't require PP then tough. Unless they create a nuisance then you will have to put up with it. They have the right to enjoy their property in their way as much as you do yours and it is not reasonable to expect them to sterilise part of their land to give you a better view. They may well think the way you choose to use your outside space is equally awful, but that is life.

Carriecakes80 · 11/09/2020 16:37

What exactly is the problem here?? Its a nice looking shed?!
Your garden does look rather forlorn and empty though....I would moan more about that lol. x

justlliloleme · 11/09/2020 16:44

@TorkTorkBam that’s what I’m hoping.

I think I needed to get some perspective, which is why I posted.

Hi @justlliloleme — ignore the haters. They think they’re clever and smart, hiding behind their keyboards. They’re actually cowardly and pathetic so don’t give them another thought.
Google “wisteria” it’s a most beautiful climbing vine with lovely flowers. You could build a trellis with an overhang on your side of the fence in front of the eyesore, perhaps with a bench or something.
It might be a bit of an outlay in the beginning and that’s not fair but in the end you’ll have a lovely garden area that you’d enjoy for years to come.
As far as the woodworking noise, are there noise ordinance laws where you live? Where I am it’s against the law to make excessive noise like woodworking or lawnmower noise from 10pm to 7am.
In any case, good luck. Much love.

Ishihtzuknot · 11/09/2020 18:44

Some of these comments are pathetic, judging OP for her garden and being rude because of the pile of rotting wood chucked together to form a ‘shed’? There’s nothing wrong with your garden OP I like the colour!
Anyway, the shed is an eye sore and looks even worse from the top view imo. I echo those saying get some trellis or tall plants up to try and block it out. You will get used to it being there eventually. My next door has a raised garden, I’m pretty sure they would have needed permission to do this as they can look into my garden as they walk past, but they done it anyway. I can see their shed, summerhouse and giant table and chairs above the fence line. I’ve got used to it now but it doesn’t mean were not allowed to roll our eyes at the cheek of it or hate the view.

wilde85 · 11/09/2020 19:00

The noise would annoy me, it does block your sunlight also is it the photo making it look like it or is it overhanging past your boundary?

Ooppydot3 · 12/09/2020 12:22

The square shaped trees mentioned are called ‘pleached’ trees.

VinylDetective · 12/09/2020 12:28

It’s no more blocking her sunlight than the neighbour’s house or the trees behind his garage, both of which are considerably higher than the shed. There really is some straw clutching going on here.
justlliloleme · 12/09/2020 15:44

@wilde85 the noise is the worry but I don’t think it’s blocking our sun, we get it overhead all day so we’re really lucky 😜
It’s not overhanging the boundary, it’s probably about a foot away.

OP, once you search for faux hedging there are numerous options that woukd block out that makeshift eyesore.

However, it would be the noise and dust that would have a huge impact on your gardens enjoyment.

If that does happen, I would imagine filming in your garden would provide proof of noise and dust and it's impact on your quiet enjoyment!

Hopefully it won't come to that.Flowers
